The Best Things in Sheffield, South Yorkshire*
If you're around, be sure to check these things out
You can tell us more about Sheffield.
The Best Things
- I'm proud to say Paul Carrack of Mike and the Mechanics, Genesis etc was in my class and helped me buy my first proper guitar. He was a great wicketkeeper too.
Our school PE teacher was Sheila Sherwood-Olympic long-jumper+wife of hurdler Mike! Both nice people.
- People, it's cheap, easy access to Peak District, the Supertram, love the concrete buildings everywhere, trains to everywhere if you fancy a change of scene, and it's not Leeds!
- The M1.
- trees, parks and the peaks
- the blades stadium (Bramall Lane), the winter gardens (cleanest air i've ever breathed (i'm from London)).
- The people here are great, both me and my wife are from out of town but we cant beat Sheffield people, my wife is from Manchester and let me tell you she would never go back there!
The students who are a credit to the city and we need em here too.
- The nightlife
- all the students who go out in fancy dress, always amusing
- New Roots.
- The best thing for me in Sheffield is the Assisted Conception Unit at Jessops. Our baby was 'manifactured' there and even if we live away now, our baby is forever a Sheffield lad.
www.doveandrainbow.co.uk
- The Dancing Dollar
- its loverly
- New longley park college!!!
- General Cemetery (don't call me a goth, I'm not, I just like it there)
- the skating
the alternative shops
meadowhall
sheffield wednesday
the people (minus chavs and townies)
The atmosphere
- Endcliffe Park, S11 in the summer ... full of hunky guys playing frisby !!!
- THE FOUNTAINS , KIDS HAVE A BALL IN THE SUMMER,
- CORRECTION of second entry from top
it states sheffield has the highest trees per capita which according to the source below is Glasgow - sorry
http://www.treesforcities.org/html/inforesearch/citytreedata/
- the people, the skating, the ganja, and the psylocybin up in the hills
- The BMX scene is huuuuge!
- Sheffield
- Every1 seems to know every1!!! especially within the Skater/bmx crew
- Fucking those big busty south yourkshire girls. Their cunts are nice and juicy.
- Loads of pubs, lots of new business coming into Sheffield, a lot of housing areas are up and coming.
- Hillsborough, hallam fm arena, ice age a great ice skating place!!
- The people, on the whole. The new peace gardens. The tram. Simply Chinese restaurant at High Green. Castle markets, even though it almost falling down.
- Sheffield has a pretty cool underground system in... how can i put this...the selling and purchasing of various forms of medication...if u get me. Get 2 no da rite ppl and ur in thr
- sheffield accent...the pubs...the people...mi mam
- Half decent tunes
- Leaving for London
- HA! is there any good things, full of morons.
- I love Sheffield - spent the best years of my life there. Good shopping centre, the Peak District on the doorstep, friendly people, good pubs, etc, etc, etc. Wish I could move back!
- devenshire green
- ummmmmm NEXT! :) just kidding, Leadmill, star store, rocky horror, pulse and cocktails sex superstore. cathedral
- most trees per capita in europian city. Nice friendly people. My girlfriend.
- the people, they're great. it's like a big city atmosphere with small village friendliness and big city open-mindedness! i used to live in leeds, and trust me, sheffield's about a million times nicer.
- Quite a nice sort of atmosphere just about everywhere. Students keep the town prosperous and they aren't bad at all. They give the place a kind of young feel. Sheffield would be a dump without unis.
- Not the shopping, the people
- Friendly people. Everything's nearby, sort of.
- Sheffield is a big village realy, and the best thing about it is the people i should know i'm one of them
- It's in Yorkshire, neither of the Cities football clubs are likley to trouble the premiership for some time.
- the people are all friendly, there's a massive alternative culture, cheap beer!
- Beautiful Downtown Bramall Lane.
- Loads of things. I'm not from Sheffiled originally, but came here to study and stayed. 6 years later, I like Sheffield even more. The locals are so friendly, there's tons of places to go out - and such diversity. Sheffield is one of those cities that feels like a great big community. I love it!
- Tapton Hall of Residence. The place kicks arse! It so pisses on Ranmoor, Sorby, Earnshaw, Halifax and Stephenson. Seriously - and I'm not biased because I live there - it's actually true! The atmosphere is great and there is loads to do. Public transport is wicked (especially the trams) except the buses like to charge random fares for the same journey!!! Anyone who moans about Meadowhall shouldn't go - it's miles away from anywhere anyway! Maybe corporate scum under one roof but where better to go at Christams when you have to buy presents for a house full of students hey??? Sheffield = wicked!!!
- The hills, the rivers, some [usually old] buildings, cheap food, bargains, and being Northern.
- i was born in sheffied/rotherham and i now live in jersey. Sheffield is great so is meadowhall...at least it's under cover and you don't get soaked during the winter. I have to agree with one other writer, Hendersons relish is the best thing, and i also have to lug a dozen bottles at one time when i visit.
- Just the general atmosphere of the place
- Meadowhall, the friendly people, the cheap fast food. Sheffield Hallam University.
The large amounts of comic/sci-fi stores. London Road.
- Henderson's relish - couldn't live without it. And since I live in Germany,
I have to lug 5 gallons of the stuff over once a year!
- it rocks
- The best thing about Sheffield is you now have one of the worlds leaders in parrot behaviour, Steve Nichols with one of the most up to date and informative websites created for the charity he founded, Parrot Line.
Why look around the world for info on these exotic birds when we have the man here in Sheffield
- previously forgotten by the IRA, proximity to Peak district, and it's very near my house.
- The people, the skaters, the beer
- The Porter Cottage...the opposite of The Pomona...
If you feel adventurous want a few no nonsense pubs in a small area and
would like to spend a totally student free few hours, check out the pubs around
the Wicker. They are mostly rough and ready but as long as you're not the kind
of up your own ass twat who calls people "townie" you should be all right.
I'm a (mature) student (from London)and this kind of talk is just the
kind of stuff that let's the more worthwhile student down, for fuck's sake these
so-called townies live here and if you don't like it piss off back home.
- The amount of greenery everywhere...even when you're in the heart of the city
you can still see the surrounding countryside in at least one direction.
- As far as cities go Sheffield is a nice place, I have lived in cities in several countries and I would criticise the lot of them, but Sheffield really has no bad point worth griping about. (Except Meadowhall)
- We Sheffielder's are the most nicest people to meet and will chat to anybody!
- Chubby's cheese sauce. Has to be tasted to be believed.
- The best thing about Sheffield is being as far away as possible from it!!!!! Nah, only joking! Still miss the old Brincliffe Oaks pub and a chip butty from the Peking in Netheredge.
- People who live in Handsworth, the coolest place to live in without a doubt.
- It's full of thousands of exiled Hibs supporters.
- Carol Vorderman tested her washing powder here.
- Best thing : AMF Firth Park Bowling Centre
- The best of Sheffield has to be the city centre full of people, traffic, pubs, and shops. That's what a city centre is supposed to be, thriving, noisy and alive! Shopping Malls, seen one, seen 'em all. Now for all you Yobbo's visiting Florida, please don't wear a coyboy hat to go home in! Luv Ya, Cat-on-the-Mac, St.Petersburg, Florida.
- The best thing I like in Sheffield is people who would say you "Luv" every time you ask for something. It creates a very friendly atmosphere. Every bus driver would talk with you for hours if you ask where some building is situated.
- The City Centre: it's got so much life to it. The amount of strangers who I've had great conversations with in Fargate is unbelieveably. And as for those litle villages, I'm from Oughtibridge and you can't beat them, they're dead friendly. Finally the hills... yes I know we all complain, but walking up and down them every day keeps you fit, I'm at unversity in Ormskirk, there's not a hill to be seen and I miss them.
- Best of the bestest - Kelham Island Industrial Museum, The Fat Cat, The Star & Garter, and the largest amount of Austin Maestros I've ever seen (Maestros are the grooviest cars ever built)
- The only good thing about Sheffield is the fact that you only have to drive for five minutes and you're in DERBYSHIRE! yeah!?!
- Ooooooo, too many to list...A pint of Wards outside the Cricketers Inn on a warm summers evening, the hills, staggering around West Bar in the middle of the night singing Eagles songs (well, we'd had a few too many), The Republic (and discovering my mate can BREAK DANCE! there - he kept that bloody quiet), everything about the Leadmill, lunch time pint and pool at The Howard, the still surprisingly high risk of bumping into mebers of Pulp, the paddle boats in Millhouses Park, daring your mates to go out to the Chippy in Burngreave in the dead of night, the fact that Sheffield's a nice long way away from the South.
- The People, the pubs, the easy access to real countryside
- Crucible Youth Theatre! Brill free theatre group for 12-23 year olds. Waiting list is now closed, but opening next autumn, I reckon. Great way to meet other actors, writers, friends in general.
