- Pedant alert (corrections to the above); Saxon are from Barnsley (God help them), Roisin Murphy is from Dublin (have you heard the accent), Tony Christie is from Conisbrough (which is classed as Doncaster). we have many a claim to fame in Sheffield; the only city in the UK with a national park in it's boundary (The Peak District), home of Association Football (rules written at the Adelphi Hotel and Sheffield FC - the world's oldest club), the greenest city in Europe (more parks & wood per hectare), the birthplace of Bessemer steel process.....etc, but we can't claim the above mentioned I'm afraid (although quite relieved in the case of Saxon!)

- RAMASES (aka Michael Raphael aka Barrington Frost), the most underground cult figure of all time!. He was born in sheffield and moved to felixtowe in the 1970s. In 1970, there was a group named Hotlegs (a pre-10CC) who had a song in the british charts called "Neanderthal Man", they STOLE this song from Ramases and his wife. Ramases sadly took his own life in the early 1990s. There should be a plaque in the city centre in rememberance of this most colourful character. He was formerley a PT instructor and Central-Heating salesman of some repute. Ask your parents, uncles etc. He deserves to be remembered!

- Here are some less famous, but equally significant Sheffielders, all of whom still live in the beautiful city:
Frank White - The best blues guitarist you'll ever see playing live in a pub
Keith Siddall - Inventor of the 'Titanic Chuck'. Used worldwide in heavy engineering
Jennifer Bush - A leading light in Theatre make-up, Wig husbandry and Stage costume design
Other famous ex-Sheffielders include Patrick McGoohan (from TV cult "The Prisoner"),
Ecclesfield's own Donald Pleasance (Bond's Blofeld) and Dr Barnes-Wallace, inventor of the bouncing bomb.
Notorious Victorian serial killer Charlie Peace, was also resident here
- The Human league, of course!
- Michael Palin, Jarvis Cocker, Sean Bean, Peter Stringfellow.
- Eddie Izzard is another Alumni of the University.
- Dave Berry, of "the crying game" fame, still resident nearby (Dronfield...!!!) and now selling antiques!-at an emporium off Boadfield rd. (yet somehow less unpleasant than a 'real' antique dealer, so maybe he's actually with the secret service)
- I used to live four doors down from "Screamin'" Steve Clarke, the (now dead) guitarist from Def Leppard. Sad, huh?
- Famous celebrities now include Matthew Newton, the blokes out of Autechre and LFO.
- Kid Creole now hangs around at Dinnington, an ex pit village east of Sheffield. He sees a girl on Victoria Street, where my old mate Dave lives with his wife and two kids. Honest.
- Don't forget that Sheffield is the home to many famous names from Emlyn Hughes to Steve Hichliffe, plus many footballers live there whilst playing for either the Blades or the Owls.
- Don't forget - from the fabulous '60's Joe Cocker, still great & singing as well as ever in the 90's. The Fortunes, "You've Got Your Troubles I've Got Mine" They used to be regulars at St. Christopher's Church Hall Dances on Saturday nights. Dave Berry, the original singer of "The Crying Game." Jimmy Crawford, is he still singing?
- Bruce Dickinson - the lead singer of Iron Maiden - Cringe!
- Catch Price Nas driving up and down Eccelshall road - only in the summer.
- How could we leave out Jarvis Cocker (and the other band members) of Pulp? His songs about the (ex) Kelvin Flats, Wincobank and very small houses with woodchip on the wall will forever keep Sheffield on the map, albeit for the worst possible reasons. Ditto Human League and Babybird.
- Jarvis Cocker lead singer of PULP! Russel Senior is from Sheffield too. And so are The Longpigs.
