Pubs
- bread and cheese pub is dirty and the food is mediocre. DONT GO THERE
- Lighthouse, which used to be Sam Lords. It's always packed out Friday nights, and most Saturdays, my mates and I are always there. The Landlord & Lady are really nice people and it has a great atmosphere now
- the lighthouse is a good pub and so is the zach
- half crown in benfleet, best for watching football with the lads during the week, and a good few on sunday, take it from me, i have fallen out of there many times, hot hut on the way home for kebabs
- They are all really rough and full of crack heads. The only decent one in the town is the Bread and Cheese, and that is on the way out of town!
- Don't forget the South Benfleet Social Club. ok, so it's a members only club, but dont be fooled by the stereotype. It has something going on every weekend, including some crazy theme nights involving the staff wearing some skimpy outfits!! oh, and there's a huge screen in the hall for the footie....
- Bread and cheese is the best pub for food in the area. Fantastic live entertainment to.
- Following its recent refurbishment in July 2003 The Bread and Cheese pub is without doubt the best pub in Benfleet. The food, and in particular the carvery, is fantastic. This is the place to go if you want to enjoy a good night out with or without food. It also seems that the youngters (18-21 (or less) have vacated the pub, which makes a nicer atmosphere.
- There's three all together, Hoy and helmet, Half crown and The Anchor, all decent pubs and no more that fifity yards from one another (heaven) the appleton arms now known as the benfleet tavern ois ok but is clicky and seems to be un atmospheric
- Bread and Cheese best pub in area – especially now new landlord has arrived. Watch out for garage on friday nights and 70s, 80s, and 90s on Saturdays! Barmaids excellent, make you feel really welcome
- Bread and Cheese! New management, much better! Get yourself down there. Huge improvement.
- Bread and Cheese! New management, much better! Get yourself down there. Huge improvement.
- Theres the Harvester at Tarpots, has a nice atmosphere, or there is the Benfleet Tavern on the High road if u like seeing some familiar faces - brilliant if you want to watch a footy match, as is the social club. There is a cluster of pubs next to Benfleet station but they havent got the same atmosphere as the others.
- Pubs round by benfleet station are the best in Benfleet. They get packed Friday nights with older generations and younger which makes a nice crown. I ahve never witnssed an argument or a fight in many years of drinking in the 3 pubs. The Anchor is probably the livliest for the younger generation on a Friday night coz they have a DJ. The Hoy and Helmet is my favourite.
P.s there si no pub called 'The Cockleshed' But Hey, sounds like a good name so watch out, I may open a pub called that!
- No cockle shed in Benfleet, these are all in old Leigh. I think what most people are trying to get at is Clarkes fish stall. You know, the one with signed photos of Alf Garnet and Chas and Dave.
- Mmm, The Appleton Arms changed its name to the Benfleet Tavern, not the other way round. Not that I care though. But my father does frequent this establishment and he is not an oik. Thank you!
- The Anchor...very good food at lunchtime...surprising range of ales and ciders, including varied guest ales at times..reputed to have a ghost of local 17th century cockle trawler...many original features including centuries old oak beam mainbraces to structure...currently managed by two gayboys, one being an' old queen and the other is jimmy somerville on steroids !! Nice fellas though, as they have often given me a 20 or 30 quid sub when i am short of cash, being a regular ! best pub in the manna !!
- the Zach Wiltshire, the Anchor, The Hoi&Helmet. All good for a laugh and a drink (or ten!)
- THE BENFLEET TAVERN USED TO BE CALLED THE APPLETON ARMS ANYWAY SO I'M GLAD THEY CHANGED IT BACK.NO SUCH PLACE CALLED THE COCKLE SHED IT'S CLARKES SHELL FISH BAR!
- the benfleet tavern has now changed its name to 'the appleton arms', and the tarpots pub is now a 'harvester' restaurant that costs little and is really nice.
- Zach Wilshire - Serves good food if you want simple and lots off it. Used to be a great pub for atmosphere, but that went pear shaped when Simon left.
- Brad and Cheese is the best Pub in the area.
- The bread and cheese has gone down hill a bit lately since the arrival of the new landlord. The best pubs are the Hoy & Helmet and the Anchor. Confusion seems to arise over the pub called the cockle shed. There is no pub called the cockle shed but there is a cockle shed located next to the hoy and helmet.
- The Cockles Shed, Hoy and Helmet, The Half Crown and The Anchor.
- One pub you haven't mentioned, which is probably one of the busiest now it's been refurbished, is the "Bread and Cheese". It's pretty lively at weekends. I've certainly never heard of a pub called the Cockle Shed though and I've lived in Benfleet all my life.
- My area of expertise: The Bread and Cheese (superb pub), The Anchor, The Half Crown, The Benfleet Tavern, The Zach Wilscher and the Hoy and Helmet. There's definitely not a pub called the Cockle Shed, believe me I know, although there is a cockle shed (one that sells cockles and crabs and stuff) next to the Hoy.
- The Tarpot used to have a reputation as being a rough place - this has changed somewhat since being turned into a Harvester! Can't vouch for the clientele of the public bar though.
- There is no pub called the Cockle Shed but the Sam Lords used to be good.
