- ODEON!!!!
- Odeon Cinema, South Woodford, excellant 8 screened cinema.
- The cinema is now called the Odeon Woodford and is a large 1930's pile between The George and teh Jaguar car showroom. It used to be really squalid and a complete rat-hole. For many years (when variously known as the Majestic, the ABC Woodford and the Cannon Woodford) it had three screens. Sainsbury's (behind it) were the landlords and according to the local rag had designs on pulling it down when the lease expired as they wanted to use the land to expand their shop / car park / provide an entrance off woodford road) however there was a local campaign and some resistance from the local council and the cinema was reprieved. Odeon took it over, tarted it up no end and it is now barely recognisable, and has 7 screens. The auditoria are not that big (but no smaller than most places) but the picture and sound are pretty reasonable.
- Odeon is quite nice, as there are places to park nearby, however, their prices are abit extortionate, especially because they don't do student rates on the wkend & on fri. nite!
- South Woodford's cinema has just been updated&is totally different now. Worth a visit if you knew the old messed up cinema.
- We have an ABC cinema at the moment on the High Road, but it is going to change into an Odeon cinema.
- no bowling or quasar or ice skating - just a plain old cinema. But for students it's ok. Perhaps though it might be worth walking down the road to Stepney Green on campus to the cinema there - it's £3.50 or £2.50 for students there.
- South Woodford Odeon. Ancient building that has been threatened to be demolished for about the past 20 years. Visit it before it goes!! Screen one has a sick 30 foot drop between the seats and the screen, with a small wall beetween. I'm surprised no one's fallen over and died yet. Just don't run down the stairs too fast...
