The Knowhere Guide

The Best Things in Southampton, Hampshire*

If you're around, be sure to check these things out

You can tell us more about Southampton.

The Best Things
  • The shopping, the varied nightlife and choice of things to do.
  • the nightlife, the shops, the gigs, the people
  • waitrose. lol. west quay, john lewis. people in the parks. so funny
  • SUBWAY...YUMMY!
  • Bars and clubs.
  • A really close knit local music scene. There's the old arehole who thinks that they're better than everyone else but on the whole it seems to be a mutual appreciation thing. With Kai at the Joiners, 4 Foot Snake Promotions, Unit 6... The majority of bands are willing to swap gigs, link websites..anything to prove that Southampton has more to offer than Craig Fucking David. Students, face it, as much as you may dislike them, they keep the population changing so there is always someone new to meet. Besides which, shouldn'd we be proud that we have two universitys in this city and that so many people want to come hare? Aug 05
  • me, my mates, my cat, my family and woteva peps say west quay is a gd place to hang out! there r more townies in the street den in tehre cos they get kicked out!
  • Climate - even the rain is warm
  • The New Forest. Although very square and concrete looking, the Civic Centre mildly adds an air of seriousness to the city, otherwose it would just be a concrete slab with a few parks.
  • Having the New Forest on the doorstep, having a football team which isn't hated by everyone (take note Manchester!)
  • f**k all
  • It's big enough to have good stuff but small enough to walk from one side to the other if you really want to. Plus you've got the good things about beign in a built-up area - clubs, restaurants, shops etc - on the edge of the New Forest so you get the best of both worlds. And The Echo for the jobs and the Friday ents guide. Oh, and all teh parks and the common.
  • Loads of shops and pubs and stuff
  • Always something to do! I love sitting outside at Ocean Village in the summer!
  • Mayflower Park, Hoglands Park, the Common, all that open park land in the Summer
  • The best thing about Southampton is the Jolly Friar chip shop in Netley. Best fish and chips I have ever had.
  • It's a real friendly place. Especially for teens if your a townie, skater or goth. You will see groups and theyre willing to let you in for a chat if you just go n ask.
  • horny open legged women.
  • in my time, used to be the dancing and the karaoke - now there is nothing to recommend southampton(does that mean i'm getting old?) - except to say it is the home of alertuk
  • grate alternate scene if ya know where to look
  • Some of the best preserved medieval toilets in the country, and lots of spooky old wine vaults. Go on the tour!
  • The Common
  • Friendly locals
  • Friendly locals
  • The trees, nearby Bournemouth has parks but Southampton can do trees better than any other place (apart from maybe a forest). The common and the parks make for a very green, tree filled place.
  • there is nothing good in southampton
  • The best thing in the city is the way that the WESTON BOYS kick the crap out of the mandella boys anytime, every one knows that weston is the rougest estate in southampton
  • I really can't think of anything I liked. The parks might be nice in the summer, but I visited in December. I suppose the best bit of town is to the immediate west of London Road, a few individual shops and cafes scattered amongst older streets. Carlton Crescent is an attractive Georgian Crescent such as you'd find in Belgravia, London - completely out of the blue, that was. Apart from that area, though, nowt. West Quay is good for chain-shopping but the way it internalises the street environment and dominates the skyline like a great hulk is regrettable.
  • I love this city and plan to live here permently
  • It rocks
  • Drunken girlies everywhere when u come out of clubs :) Whats the deal with those traffic lights that sound like a chicken clucking? (Other side of the park opposite Kimber Halls of residence)
  • Has a reasonable variety of everything (a jack of all trades)
  • Alternative Options, Movement, Mayflower Park, Hythe Ferry (we couldn't live without you) high street, Bella Pasta, my friends, Jacaranda, HMV + Virgin, Skaters!(yummy) Goths, footworks, Shakeaway!!
  • the weather is good - with the added benefit being that gobal warming will eventually submerge southampton
  • Some good nights out - by the water - an "open" town in terms of lots of parks, and fairly flat buildings and wide roads. As opposed to Winchester, which is pretty claustrophobic in the centre. Being able to stay in some clubs 'till 3am now thereby avoiding the lager boys (and related violence) between 11:30 and 1am
  • It's sunny.
  • NONE OF IT!
  • town is a really good place to find sexy skaters/punkers etc, especially Mayflower Park. love those baggy jeans guys. another good thing used to be the HMV wall, but they ripped it down.
  • There's a good underground dance scene and a pretty good indie scene.
  • Mayflower skate park
  • the common on the avenue
  • hot women
  • My Friends live here, there's always something to do, people are friendly (mostly), the new shopping centre is gonna be cool, and you can say southampton in a lock-stock accent - sairfamton! innit!!!
  • The Common and the parks. The bits of the Solent you can see. and the fact that it's relatively easy to get out of, either to the bright lights of London, or to the beaches and wide open spaces of the New Forest.
  • Cheap beer at The Institute's Student Union!!!
  • The Civic Centre,( I suppose it is historic by now) in the 1940's my grandfather, born 1870, used to call it the "bloody jam factory"
  • Friendly, happy and cool.
  • Everyone wants to be a DJ! :)
  • West Buckland is located between Barnstaple and South Molton in North Devon. Situated on the edge of Exmoor it is beautiful in the summer but a bit bleak in the Winter! Used to be reached by windy lanes, access is much easier now due to the North Devon Relief road. Nearby places - East Buckland, Charles Bottom.
