Cafes and Coffee Shops
- tombas in bargate, starbucks by topshop is LUSH,
- Check out the Mozzo Community Coffee Cart. This is Southampton's freshest coffee experience based on an Indian Tuk-Tuk powered by a wind turbine and solar panels. Surround in the works of Southampton's Community Artists. Seeing is believing!
- Tombas. I'm a bit biased, I used to work there. was better in the days of Marco and Nick. But things move on and I can still spend hours in there with a book and ten cups of coffee. A great place to meet when everyone drives as everyone I know parks in eastgate carpark. Love 'em! Aug 05
- STARBUCKS! SHAKEAWAY!
- Coming soon! @ the Bargate will be Southampton's first Mozzo Community Coffee Cart! Based on a 3 wheeled tuk tuk from Thailand the innovative Mozzo Cart operates using power generated by onboard solar panels and wind turbines. The cart also features an on-cart art gallery, displaying work of local creatives!
Mozzo will be serving a quality fairtrade, organic coffee using a traditional, manual lever machine.
- The cafe in the Civic Centre makes great food, lots of veggie hot meals, yummy cakes, great coffee, love that place! The guy who runs it is a sweetie too.
- This is what Southampton really lacks. It's either Starbucks, old-gravy-dribbling cafes or Shake-Away (or whatever it's called). Where are the nice pretentious cafe simulacra's with squirty coffee machine sounds and waiters with pinnies?
- Piccolo Mondo near Civic Centre
Luigis in East Street
Cook House in St. Mary Street near the college - not open at the moment as they had a burst pipe (great food - reasonable prices)
- If you want something great... try Shakeaway in the Bargate centre. Hundreds of shakes on offer... choose your own ingredients. (My favourite is Creme Egg with Custard!)
- StarBytes Cyber Cafe - Great coffee, speciality teas and of course - Biscotti.
- Good coffee downstairs in the Bargate, and Goblets is excellent if you fancy lunch out. Good cheap lovley.
- Try Shakeaway in the Bargate for calorific shakes freshly made from just about any combination of things you can dream up. A heartattack in a cup, but very delicious.
- They got rid of the best one in Bedford Place and put The Wine Bar there - so none really!
- The best one is upstairs in the East Street Centre (ex Maxwell's)they don't rip you off.
- STARBUCKS AND COSTA COFFEE. Costa do a great hot chocolate and starbucks are just great.
- Solos Cafe on Town quay Road must be the last greasy spoon in the City centre now that the Hasty Tasty has gone; big helpings, but where do they get that stuff they call coffee from?
- Downstairs in the Bargate
- Only places in the South that sell lime milkshakes in the Bargate Centre.
- Costa coffee. Good drinks, good seats. Also downstairs in Waterstones in West Quay! That's a good find.
- Area 51 looks like it might be good but one you get inside, all it can offer is factory-made sandwiches that they've bought it and some rapidly congealing ice cream. DelMarco is a rip-off of the London-based chain Pret A Manger, and not nearly as good. I did see a rather good cafe/delicatessen on Bedford Place but I forget the name.
- Costa coffee in West quay shooping centre
- TOMBAS the nicest place to go for coffee/tea in southampton perfect on a cold day skating tea 90p for a pot.. worth two cups and coffee tends to cost a quid
- Shakeaway, amazing milkshakes there if you want it they got it! They do food aswell.
- shake away milk shake bar in the bargate shopping centre is amazing.they take things like chocolate muffins and jaffa cakes, put them through the blender with milk and ice cream and hand you half a litre off gooey delight that had my student belly full for days
- Bar Risa (under Jongleurs) is pretty cool in the daytime.
- Chateau du pain, Above Bar.
Le Matelot, High Street- baguettes to die for.
- Tomba's (Bargate)is a great place to meet all the people who used to hang around outside HMV.
- There's a nice french one near the square.
- None-there should be some though!!
- Area 51 (London Road, next to Kelly's) is very small, cosy and friendly. And you can smoke!!!! Very nice spot to meet someone for lunch or just go and read the paper before work, and they have some of the nicest staff you will find in the city. Can get a bit nippy in winter - open front - but don't let that put you off.
- Chateux du Pain, high street, tasty sanwiches made to order, and real cute take-away bags.
- there is a cafe at the bottom of the bargate centre where all the goths and new gens hang, so steer clear of it.
- Harbour Lights Cinema in Ocean Village offer an excellent Sunday morning of jazz and coffee.
- There's a French-style patisserie next to C&A in the City Centre that does good take away coffee.
