Favourite Building in Southampton, Hampshire*

Art deco, contemporary, futuristic, tall, short...

You can tell us more about Southampton.

Favourite Building
  • top rank ,gone but not forgotten the pier now a great thai boat building barn in botley on the banks of the hamble that some barstard knocked down to build some crap housees
  • The old city walls.
  • i guess its the bargate castle.. it adds a lot of character to southampton.. i can just imagine transforming it into my very own home :D
  • they're all rubbish-primark roof is warm if u got nowhere 2 stay-bless that fan thing! lol
  • Er, so many to choose from.
  • The old places round Carlton Place. Mostly offices now but still georgeous. Ones been turned into Avondale which may explain my love of the place, if I was rich I'd buy it and live in it!! Harbour Lights Picture House for looking like a ship (nautical history and all that) but still being made half of glass and being relly stunning. The old pier at Town Quay, I think it's a club now though. Aug 05
  • train station! gets me home doesnt it! and has 4 lovely platforms! oh and whsmith is there and overprice ribena! ummm ribena!
  • Bargate
  • Red post boxes are quite nice.
  • The Bargate
  • Nice new retail space in between the High Street and Above Bar (on the corner.) I've been here for 3 years, and that's how long it's been "To Let"... looks nice, but nobody wants to rent it all the same!
  • Salvation Army in Oxford Street - when's it going to become luxury flats?
  • All of them down Rockstone Lane where I live! A lovely row of 1800's cottages with serious character!
  • A difficult balance between art and function, so for me it's West Quay Shopping Centre as we endured crap shops for years and now we've got something thats not bad. It won't win any design awards though.
  • Tudor House, open it up so more kids can learn about our history
  • Netley Abbey
  • The bargate is the best building cuz it's housing the best goth shops around. Marlands is good for having Jacaranda though
  • debenhams
  • Tudor House Museum will be closed 2002-5, but it's still a damn fine building.
  • The new courts on the Avenue University of Southampton block on Burgess Road, lit up at night Hartley Library in the university Bargate in town
  • All of the Uni - the really old stuff is lovely, the 50s/60s stuff looks great contrasted against the green of the campus and the new "ocean liner" style stuff is really starting to take shape.
  • they have not got 1
  • We love the Tudor House [it's a museum with local history, and it's FREE entry!!!].
  • St Marys stadium now thats what i call magnificent
  • Any of the medieval stuff. It's why I'm a mature student here after all.
  • The church opposite the Tudor House museum !
  • ST MARYS STADIUM
  • bargate shopping centre come winter all the punks and metallers will come trapsing back cause its cold outside and yoou can smoke in bargate no doubt wars with townies will emerge
  • The Marlands and the Bargate
  • The main entrance to the Southampton Institute. Strange bendy looking thing. Nice.
  • Southampton hsa many buildings, none of which are worthy of being a favourite. But I suppose the Red Lion pub on the High Street (below Bar) come close, mainly because it's old and has a pub in it
  • polygon hotel(now demolished to build what looks like a halls of residence
  • Guildhall clock. You know you're home when you see it.
  • The Hobbit pub is really nice from the back.
  • Soton Uni union!
  • Again, the Winston! Also, The Archers (opposite) coz I used to live there.
  • the dell, home of southampton football club, rulers of the bottom of the premiership.
  • Harbour Lights Picture House, City Art Gallery side of the Civic Centre, St. Michael's Church-Bugle Street, the Red Lion pub opposite Habitat on the High Street, God's House Tower, which is also the museum of local archaeology - (of which there is a lot, as Southampton was settled by successive waves iron age peoples, romans, and saxons. The collection also got 'designated' which means it's nationally significant).
  • Tudor House - not only is it a house, but it's also Tudor! Its a good museum to visit too.
  • The Dolphin Inn below Bar, Jane Austen got her ideas about dances here.
  • The building that Goblets pub is part of - really old and beautiful
  • The Bargate - the original gateway to Southampton
