Live Music Venues
- The Soul Cellar.The best
- Joiners! Can't beat it.
- Been to the Joiners which is really good for upcoming bands, the Guidlhall for bigger names, there is also the Nexus and Unit 22 which both have good rock bands and also some good alternative club nights.
- okay so there is southampton guildhall, southampton uni they all have good bands playing. dont forget the joiners though.. new and breaking through bands.. u might wana go here.. u can see the bands beofre they get huge.. check out portsmouth pyramids, portsmouth wedgewood rooms and portsmouth guidhall though.. not all bands play in southampton.. also some bigger bands may just play at the BIC (in bournemouth)
- Talking Heads, friendly, enthusiastic lots on, great open mic.
- JOINERS-most popular-a lot of underage kids go ther so its usually swarming with 15yr olds which is pretty dumb. none can get served though. haha
- The Brook innit? Talking Heads too.
- The Hobbit has great local bands, as does Joiners. Uni also offers some good live stuff
- Joiners for the up and commings and local bands, Again, the Angel, for good rock covers bands, the Brook for Big but not massively famous bands ans the bigger tribute bands, Nexus when it gets the bands in. For big tours, the Guildhall and the Uni. Prefer the Uni as the beers cheaper and, as far as I'm aware, they haven't introduced a no smoking policy. Aug 05
- The Brook
- Lennons on Saturday gets good new bands, the kind you can often brag about how you 'saw them first' five years before 'everyone else' had heard of them. But it's really annoying how they put them on about midnight when you've just got into your groove.
- The Joiners is the best venue it's in StMarys Street, The Brook's resently re-opened after refubishment.
- please fwd this onto ur mates, as theres no bigger party in southampton this saturday BEST CLUB IN SOTON - QUOTE ME!
and on Sat its even better coz we're callin the shots on the line-up:
ADAM F, SCRATCH PERVS, EKSMAN & KARL HINDS! (UK and US hiphop, DnB/Jungle, ragga/bashment, dancehall AND RnB 4 u cheesy ladies ;p )
NON-STUDENTS WELCOME! txt ur names to SEB 07714679206 by friday nite OR get ur studo mates 2 sign u in

- The Brook excellent local venue in Portswood currently being refurbished opens again in the autumn(2004)
- the HOBBIT in bevios valley and TALKING HEADS in portswood are very good for live music and open mic stuff
- Guildhall, you get some stella bands there sometimes.
- soul cellar (west marlands road)
- The Joiners in St Mary's have many up and coming bands. Recent chart toppers Franz Ferdinand played here. When they were unknowns bands such as Coldplay, Oasis, Radiohead any many more have all played here. You may or may not know them at the time you see them but one thing is for sure - a regular visit to this intimate venue will help you see stars of the future in their early days.
- Has to be The Joiners for up and coming bands.
- Joiners, Hobbit, Guildhall...
- The Joiners- tiny but brilliant and quite cheap. The Guildhall has some bigger names play there.
- Definitely The Brook in Portswood - sometimes the Hobbit though!
- The Brook, The Joiners, and the Hobbit, you'll see big names on their way up and on the way down. New stars and old stars in various states, inexpensive bar at the Brook with relaxed atmoshere for all. Amazing closeness and access to massive stars.
- for punk and hardcore check out the oomf and ste (southampton, totton, eastleigh) collectives who put on regular gigs at the joiners and the king alfred. the have websites with gig listings and other scene news www.oomf.info and www.stecollective.com
- Music Venues????Well there is none really but there's loadsa good concerts at the Guildhall and the University like Bowling for Soup on February the 22nd at Southampton Guildhall and also InMe at Southampton University on February the 2nd. The InMe one will be great by the way cause they always are and it's recommended that you go.
- woolworths hmv virgin
- there loads grate local musice every where like the joiner, nexus, rhino, hobbit. but for big band its the guild hall, even tho some do play at joiners
- The Rhino is easily the best club in Town, has got a really good atmosphere no-matter whats going on. Monday nights (niteflight - dnb) are good, Wednesday's are good downstairs (usually hiphop, breaks, or dnb). Paradise club is ok, but its run by a bunch of cheesy idiots at the moment.
- Southampton Joiners
Southampton Guildhall
- The Joiners, a venue that attracts bands that go on to be legends. Examples have been the Stone Roses and The Charlatains.
The Guildhall is become a venue that is included in more bands schedules. This year has seen Ian Brown and Groove Armada. 10 years ago and unknown band played known as Oasis

- THE JOINERS IS PRETTY COSY AND THE H0BBIT CAN BE QUITE A GOOD NITE IF FINESHED WITH A ROUND IN THE DOCHESTER WICH IS OPEN TILL 1 00AM I THINK
- The Brook hosts some good gigs.
- nothing beats the joiners for edgy cool, all the big bands played here beofore they got famous!
- there can be only one joiners arms!!!! alot of punk and metal other wiselook round.
- I don't do live pub bands, but the joiners in St Marys on the brook in Swaythling would be a good bet
- The Joiners cannot be beaten for underground music, the NEXUS is occasionally good as well
- ikons
- The joiners the best live music in southampton with punk nights at least once a fortnight
- the joiners pub regularly does music very well i might add. there is one band in particular, the jupiter few who are like ian brown and sid barretts love children (alledgedly)and are totally amazing.if you should happen to see them ripped to the tits on acid, avoid looking at the glittery floor as it will probably fuck your mind (i've heard)
- I can't believe nobody has mentioned THE FROG AND FRIGATE! best non-dance venue in the city. Small, intense and fun. Think Jumpin' Jaks without the cattle. Derek on guitar Fri/Sat, and the music ranges all over the place but in the general "rock" genre - Green Day, Blur, Nirvana, Led Zepplin, Beatles, Buddy Holly(!!), and anything you care to ask for - dance on the tables and basically let yourself go. You might get a bruise or two from the flailing arms but everyone is dead friendly - even the security!. Go there.... Opposite Ocean Village, Open till 1am.
- Joiners? Hobbit?
- The joiners of course!
- They all keep shutting but Rhinos has bands sometimes, and the Joiners Arms is opening up again. The Bier Keller is a strip bar now, I think.
- Sadly, The Bier Kellar has now been transformed into "Kelly's". No more Live Music, just pre-club type tunes. Cheap drinks, but the Bier Kellar was far superior. Catering for the student market i suppose.
- There ought to be dates next to these things, to say when stuff was written... I remember DJ Hammy at Thursdays... STILL, Surely Derek still plays at the Frog and Frigate on Canute Road, near Ocean Village? If you want a rowdy night of singalong and stuff, try there.
I think that since Mint stopped doing the booking at the Joiners, it went down the pooer.
- The Joiners, the Brook, The Hobbit, and the Guild Hall. The joiners is the best.
- you mentioned the Gantry. They have a web site which lists their current programme at http://www.interalpha.net/gantry.
There's also the Turner Sims Concert Hall, on the University campus. As well as string quartets and other classical music they also book mad stuff like Billy Jenkins' Suburbia, Inner Sense Percussion Orchestra, and tours off the Arts Council of England's Contemporary and Asian music circuits - Paco Pena and the Brecker Brothers have played there in the last couple of years - but not on the same bill.. details on www.soton.ac.uk./turnsims
The Mayflower Theatre is best known for doing shows like Phantom of the Opera, and ballet and proper opera. But they also do shows like Circus Oz, and recently multi platinum asian singer Jagjit Singh.- www.the-mayflower.com
- Phone Wally @ The Music Shop........023 80 437937.....if it's on,he'll tell you where
- Boat Parties running from Ocean Village, Southampton
The Rhino, Bedford Place, Southampton
The Academy (Students Only), Bedford Place, Southampton
- Talking Heads on Portswood Road. Good for Blues and Jazz, and Irish music lunchtimes Sundays.
- The Guildhall in West Marlands Road attracts a lot of big names bands and has good atmosphere. The Bier Kellar, German bar, in London Road also hosts local acts and some big regional names.
- Jumpin' Jaks also in Leisure World. Includes local bands, famousish bands eg Boney M (!) and also nights of Karaoke etc
- The Gantry, Blechynden terrace (or words to that effect); lots of live music (esp Jazz), theatre, comedy and films.
- The Guildhall - for everything from Shakin' Stevens to Radiohead
- The Joiners - for those 'I saw them before they were big' people
- University - hosts all sorts, but hard to get tickets unless you are a student.
- The Brook on Portswood Road, Swaythling has successfully converted itself from a sad locals pub, only visited out of obligation on the Portswood Road pub crawl, to a venue for some quality bands. Check out their listings.
