  • Southampton, like everywhere else, has it's good and bad sides. As a stop off between somewhere rural and a big city, it's perfect. But anyone who has ambitions to do better for themselves will eventully leave. Those who have ambition, but don't are either scared (I don't blame you), have things here they can't/ don't want to leave or are far too jaded by the whole "living in Southampton and not as a student" thing that they have no idea what to do. Don't get me wrong, I was born here, grew up in the forest, and moved back here when I left home. But the place is so small. Whether you're uses to living in a place where you have miles of unspoilt countryside in every direction or a large city all aroun you, you can't help but notice that Southampton is neither of these. It's confined to such a small area but wants to be so much more. Admire it for it's ambition (seems to be a theme for the place as a whole) but know that it'll never get any better.
  • I AM AWESOME
  • It is wrong to say that Southampton has a lack of culture. It is just saturated with a townie consumer culture, where people walk around in circles buying things with their eyes shut. It's not all bad, the Institure produces good talent and is up and coming, minus the clones.
  • wtf is ur problem with gots and nu-metal people, they are just humans trying to get through life, u sad bastard

  • RE: Southampton 18 Plus meet every Wednesday at 8:30pm in the upstairs function room at "The Anchor" 61 Test Lane, Redbridge, Southampton........ This is way out of date: - We meet at Around the World, Town Quay, Southampton. - Website is: www.southampton-plus.org.uk Thanks!
  • Um...
  • Southampton city centre looks good but its actually crap, west quay might aswell be empty, the shops are so crap!
  • shithole
  • Southampton isnt marvellous, worth a visit if you have loads of money and wish to spend time shopping and drinking. Dont bother if you happen to have taste in clothes and music, because everyone here says 'yez mate' and likes to wear as little as possible in shitty nightclubs.
  • THERE WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A SKATEPARK BEING BUILT BY WESTON SHORE AGES AGO! tell me if you are if you are not god will smite you (the council).
  • THERE WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A SKATEPARK BEING BUILT BY WESTON SHORE AGES AGO! tell me if you are if you are not god will smite you (the council).
  • I think that the views displayed in this website are biased and bigoted. We can all tell that you obviously hate being her and being students. where else could you get away with not working pissing our taxes up the wall and having a totally free ride whilst still, face it, at school. Grow up.STUDENT.
  • if ya wanna get peirced go to lucid it in the ally behind square bloon. if ya want some ink done then go to tatto magic.
  • To the guy who said !Wasn't the Titanic from Belfast you dumb Brit?".. ..Th Titanic was *built* in Belfast but Southampton was the Titanic's HOME PORT, you Dumb Yank!
  • You need some sort of centralised listing of all pub quizes so us poor students know where to go to win free beer.
  • Musicians - Bass Junkies - http://www.imabassjunkie.co.uk DJ Paul Richards - http://www.ridney.com
  • Why are Sotonions proud of the fact that the Titanic sunk? All local folk seem to be related to the remaining survivors. Does a similar first name qualify one as a relative?
  • There are 2 mad old women who film students in the polygon. They hide in bushes in their dressing gowns filming into houses, plaster 'you are being filmed' stickers all over peoples windows and last year (apparently) they smashed up someones car. Avoid if possible.
  • there's an organisation called southampton centre for independent living. mobility impaired web readers might find it useful www.southamptoncil.demon.co.uk For about half an hour sometime in mid September 2000 Southampton will have the largest city centre mall in western europe, when the new West Quay retail development opens.
  • What about a map, and details of the hotels there . Where are they and contact numbers.
  • We have three memorials to the stricken cruise ship RMS Titanic - a plaque for the musicians who played on, a larger memorial to the engine crew and a tall monument to everyone else. There is a plaque on the wall of the Ocean Village complex that says that the first ever Japanese citizens to leave Japan in the 19th century first set foot at Southampton docks. Southampton has the world's oldest bowling green - you can find it next to God's House Tower archaeology museum.
  • Southampton 18 Plus meet every Wednesday at 8:30pm in the upstairs function room at "The Anchor" 61 Test Lane, Redbridge, Southampton 18 Plus is a nationwide social and activities organisation for young adults aged 18 - 36. It offers its members the chance to meet new people, make new friends and enjoy a wide range of weekday and weekend activities on a local, Area and National basis. There are around 100 groups throughout the UK which hold regular weekly meetings and are run by their members for their members. http://www.biggles.demon.co.uk/Index.html
  • Southampton is under going a bit of a transformation right now. Half the town is a building site. Leave it until the year 2000 to visit as the work should be done by then and we'll have a lovely new shopping centre.
  • Shirley swimming Pool -within easy walking or bike from most student housing- lane swimming at least three times a day, morning, lunchtime and evening. No leaping screaming kids!£1.80 a swim for students or a six month card for unlimited sessions for £70.00. Old, traditional four lane 25metre pool. Bit scruffy around the edges but it's the only one in town. 01703 781901
  • My brother and I went to school in the village in 1940-42. Long time eh?! Anyway, I went to the British Legion building made of corragated iron (when it rained it rattled) and my younger brother went just a little way down the road at the village school. We lived at Upcott Farm with Mr. and Mrs Witheridge and their son Charley. Every day we walked to school, summer and winter. Sometimes, we would catch a bus ride with the pupils of that rather high class school outside of the village at the insistence of the shrill voiced Mrs. Witheridge, we found it embarrassing at that early age.
My brother and I were evacuees which I forgot to mention and were always considered to be those contemptable 'townees'. The other son of our empressed hosts was a red haired chap called John Ridd. He had a wife called 'Nurse' since she had apparently been one in the past. I remember that she had no qualms about squashing little mice between her thumb and forefinger. Quite a gal that one. One of the evacuees stayed in the village or nearby after the war. His name was Marcus (can't remember his surname).
