The Knowhere Guide

The Worst Things in Southampton, Hampshire*

The entirely missable and worth mentioning because of it

You can tell us more about Southampton.

The Worst Things
  • it's a shithole
  • The chavs, there are so many
  • the weather, the lack of ice rink, the lack of lazer quest come to think of it.. and ive realised most main cities have a big wheel.. london has one, manchester has one.. and birmingham has one.. i think southampton should have 1 too.. hmm where to put it though
  • nasty lil chavs hu come from st mary's 2 nick ppls fones. v funny n fair plays tho
  • Chavs everywhere.
  • The fact that everyone supporting each other seems to come from the urge to leave Southampton behind. That there are hardly any chances to work your way up an organisation, eg. all jobs seem to be either £10,000 or £40,000 (someone please tell me how to make the jump). Houses are so bloody expensive, try living with less than 2 other people and see how much your monthly outgoing rise. Aug 05
  • marlands is shit part from poundland! i got an electronic fly swatter, haribo and a torch for yes u guessed it £3! n they dont like me n me mates cos we go in there and ask how much things are even though EVERYTHINGS A POUND is plastered all over the store! GO IN POUNDLAND AND KEEP ASKING THE STAFF HOW MUCH THINGS ARE AND TELL THEM THEY NEED TO PRICE THINGS UP!
  • Bloddy traffic lights - I think it was a "buy one get one free" thing they are everywhere resulting in an average traffic speed of.........18 miles per hour
  • Soton has the highest proportion of chavs in the country, especially during term-time as students come here to learn the art of chavdom. Also although it is a coastal town of sorts, the few bits of the coast that you can actually get to are scummy and have views of Fawley oil refinery.
  • The people and their permanent snarls and the feeling of being at the end of England.
  • St. mary's street... uhhh.. unless you are a townie or like getting rude comments shouted at you.
  • the sweetey people with greasey hair letting SOUTHHAMPTON down key points bar gate or hanging about the streets making snotty mess
  • WestQuay, Marlands, Bargate.... Shops in general!
  • the people sad attidute students thinking of southampton dont bother
  • Shirley. Not the person, the place. Not always the most thought in the world given to town planning.
  • Too many trendy crappy wine bars, nothing to do at night except drink. Expensive place to live. Nothing to do for under 18s.
  • Too many punk-ass students (even though I was one here once) they are so disrespectful compared to us!!
  • Narrow sighted town planners who need to take design cues from Europe, the pedestrian areas are too full. Get walkers in a line and sitters sat down, with some demarkation. We need a basketball court and a skate park on the waterfront where the Royal Pier was with picnic and bbq areas.
  • horny open legged men
  • students current crop of karaoke jocks city council meridian tv bbc daily echo craig david
  • all the townies
  • The High Street alcohol and violence cocktail after 11pm. Very Scary.
  • Bus drivers Traffic lights - more per square mile than the rest of the UK! Not enough recycling initiatives
  • The traffic
  • shirley police are awful they let yobs run riot in the streets there respondin time is shit and when they know when someone causes criminal damage they dont do any thing
  • Apart from night clubs, night life is boring, finishing at pub-closing-time!
  • Lectures at the university! You could learn more whilst trapped in a sensory deprivation tank!
  • is u dont down grade a shop coz it is s**t in clothing wot do u think a SKATEBOARD shop is for? HINT HINT NUDGE NUDGE
  • Mouthy muppets!! N how close is Portsmouth? 'Nuff said!!!
  • The sheer architectural indistinction. It just looks like a nothing-town. I was disappointed, I had always imagined Southampton was alright. Even the 'Old Town' is filled with modern buildings trying to fit in. It was soulless. I preferred Portsmouth and even that wasn't great...
  • Get rather drunk in Lennons and make a complete fool of myself in there too often!
  • It sucks
  • the townies are beyond the joke here.
  • One way bl**dy road system. Takes ten hours of driving round in circles to get from point A to B, and if you miss a turn you're stuffed.
  • A master of nothing much at all. As the sign says - Home of the BT Global Challenge - if that's the claim to fame then need i say what the bad things are!
  • why oh why did they have to build st.mary's and the newtown estate-[the council hellhole].
  • the people, the weird cockney/cornish accent, the general lack of atmosphere and the fact that locals are proud of coming from the same town as craig david
  • Useless bus service in evenings, lack of a really good "superclub". I don't know who said IKON get big name DJ's but I've only ever seen Artful Dodger and Judge Jules, and they only bother to turn up on a Monday.... Total lack of a good metal club too, although I head about "the Base" sometime ago but never found it. faaaaaar too many traffic lights.
  • Townies. Southampton women are all gobby cows. Southampton men are a joke. Portsmouth is too near. Fish & Chips are CRAP.
  • ALL OF IT!
  • All Sotonions are proud of the fact that the Titanic sunk after it left Southampton. Almost everyone in Southampton is related to the last survivor.
  • West Quay! its just a huge space w/ hardly any decent shops, and a total waste of money. the stupid new benches which can never replace the wondrous thing that was the HMV wall.
  • Where to start... Students and townies are moreorless indistinguishable, its like an experiment in conformity gone wrong. There's dull middle class bits, the polished evil of the town centre, a very dangerous red light district and nothing else really. Southampton is soulless.
  • The boat show
  • the buses(always late when it's cold/raining!)
  • southampton is a dump there is housing estates evreywhere there is fuck all to do the housing estates are filed with youths that roam the streets till all hours and the police do not do a thing about itok southampton has some nightclubs it as ikon and newyork newyork but that gets boring after a while any students thinking of going to southampton dont bother my course finishes soon and i hope i never have to see southampton again
  • There are lots of students and they tend to make a mess, sorry guys but you do.
  • some of the people
  • public transport's not that clever - it's an 18hr city with a 12hr transport system. .
  • The students - the new lifeblood of this city.
  • Southampton F.C.!!! (Come on locals - admit it!!)
  • Alan Mead's rambling on in "The Stuff We Can't Fit in Somewhere else" bit - Is he trying to sell a book or summat?
  • Crowds of exchange students in the summer.
  • Someone give that poor little shit an education.
