  • Southend Pier Museum Foundation. For readers at home or overseas interested in saving as much of the old character of Southend as possible, I would like to mention that one can become a member by contacting Mike Davies, Treasurer, 18 Dene Gardens, Rayleigh SS6 9LJ, Essex. Phone 01268 785657 (from U.S. 011 44 1268 785657). Current subscriptions are two pounds sterling for adults and one pound for juniors (under 16). There is a current appeal for five hundred pounds to help extend the museum. Due to cost constraints, the Foundation has no e-mail or fax. Some hard working and dedicated local folk literally saved a piece of Southend (world?) history from extinction. Their work has been a labour of love and includes the preservation of the Pier and its surrounds; the restoration of the old Pier Trains; the running of the Pier Museum (located at the Pier entrance) and a myriad of other related matters. My name is Bruce Davis, formerly from Southend. I am a Foundation member now living in Seattle, WA, U.S.A.
  • The pier, which catchess fire every few years for hte publics and tourists enjoyment. Also happens to be the longest amusent pier in the World which can't be too bad
