Cringing Cult of Celebrity
- Kris Frampton who made a mint from property and is now a Highland Laird living in the deepest Highlands hosting dinner and shooting parties. Lucky swine...
- Peter Sellars (actor and comedian) was born in the house on the corner of Castle Rd junction with Southsea Terrace, now a Chinese restaurant. Joe Jackson born in Pompey wrote and sang 80's hit 'Stepping Out', always a favourite on local radio. HG Wells (author The Time Machine etc) worked in Southsea Drapery store as a youthful apprentice and apparently hated it! Sir Arthur Conan Doyle lived and worked as a medical doctor, came close to being arrested for the murder of a lad called Jack Hawkins who died in his care (Doyle was dating Jack's sister who inherited £100 a year from his death - quite a sum back then). Doyle wrote 'A study in Scarlet' in Southsea in between patients. Charles Dickens and Admiral Lord Nelson also lived here and are fairly well known!
