Cheap Food
- Greggs the bakers yi get four pancakes fir a quid !
- The Oak Rooms has a lunch deal for £4.00 which offers great selection.
- PMs.. best for the after booze munchies!!
- KFB does chocolate pizza - haven't tried it, so I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not! The Eating Place does lovely pancakes. Paninnis are ubiquitous here - you're more likely to be able to get them than just a normal old sandwich!
- PMs, for the best fish&chips in town. Also does a nice line in other greasy junk food such as onion rings and burgers.
The Ruby chinese takeaway.
The Kinness frybar, bridge street, your one stop late night fastfood joint. Does any deepfried chocolate bar of your choice and gorgeous pizzas, try the kinness special- every single topping! If you're lucky, you might see old skool italian gnasta pizza guy, Pepe sauntering around lookin fly!
the Shell garage again, open 24 hours for pot noodles, ice cream, sandwiches, and microwavable hot dogs, burgers and kebabs... mmmm?
- The excellent ice-cream shop mentioned on this site is B Jannettas. They have a shop opposite the Westport but the main one is at the other end of South Street at the junction with Abbey Walk. They've recently opened a cafe next door which I am reliably informed sell gorgeous feta cheese paninis.
For fish try Keracher's on South Street near the Abbey Walk end. They sell fresh tuna, salmon, mussels etc. Not too expensive and I'm reliably informed it is frequented by the rich and famous (well Jeremy Paxman was once spotted purchasing some seafood there).
- There is a brilliant new restaurant for anyone who loves Mexican food, La Posada on Market Street. It serves some of the best Mexicamn food I have ever had especially the complementary tortilla chips and Margarita slushy on arrival.
- Try the all day Olympic Breakfast at the Eating House, South Street.
- The Westport brasserie /restaurant. Newly refurbished in minimalist style with white walls. not a cold atmosphere though as the fireplaces add warmth to the place in more ways than one. artwork for sale is displayed on the walls in the back room.
ice cream shop - v. famous - but i've forgotten its name - ask any local and they'll tell you where it's at.
- Aikman's Bar, 32 Bell Street 477425
Food served all day from 11 in the morning to midnight - and beyond if you are really struggling! Evening menu with food from across the world PLUS! 15 luxury ice creams, cheesecakes, chocolate cakes and sticky buns throughout the day. At least one night of live music a week and a relaxed, comfortable place to enjoy good food and drink.
- PMs , Peter's and cafe Carmen - all own by one guy and all chip shops. Pizza Connection and KFB are the better take away alternatives. Kfb specialise in pizzas and do deep fried Mars Bars. The New Balaka is renown and sometimes plays host to Sean Connery,Merchant's house,No. 31, Vine Leaf(very expensive), Cardinals (turkish), Ciao Roma ,Bella Pasta, Pancake Place, Olivers (bakers) , Ma Browns Tea Room (great ,well priced food- was in The Winter Guest with Emma Thompson) , Ogston's(both at the bar and there's a restaurant behind),and loads of pubs doing meals not to metion all the hotels on The Scores.
