Pubs in St Andrews, Fife*

The place to go for a lazy afternoon, pub quiz or last call

You can tell us more about St Andrews.

Pubs
  • The Oak Rooms and The Lizard depending on your mood.
  • The gin house is probably the biggest and if you're looking for your Nat King Cole, you'll get it here. Music wise I personally think the lizard Lounge is the best for a good atmosphere. If you fancy something a bit more chilled out, try one of the "locals pubs" (ie) the new inn, the stables or the castle tavern, unlike what you've probably heard, the locals can be friendly and a good laugh.
  • Gin house is good for a night out. Music is really loud and usually a good crowd in. It doesn't usually warm up till late tho, as drinks are really expensive. Most locals stay at home and get pissed then head up for a couple about 10pm onwards. Next best bet is the Vic, much the same as the Gin but better value and occasional drinks promotions. If you dislike students don't venture into the Raisin, the place is full of them and if you dont have a YELLOW card your fucked!
  • Lizard, Westport, MaBells & the Vic (Vic's £1 boozeday tuesday is a must)
  • The Gin House (formerly Ogstons, I think)on a tuesday night ("U2uesday") gives out free Baileys or Guiness every time they play a U2 song.
  • Ogstons has now sadly become the Gin House. if you like drinking in a blokes toilet you'll love it. Mirrored walls and white wash just dont do it for me. Although the new sofas are very comfy. Tho not as comfy as the armchairs that Drouthys has just bought. McSouleys became 1 golf place and since Lex departed there quiz aint up to much.
  • Aikmans/Cellar- generally chilled atmosphere The Gin house- closest St.Andrews has to a club, loud music, sleazy old men.... (multitude of scary looking bouncers these days though) The Lizard Lounge- underground trendy pub about the size of a large cupboard! The Vic- great laugh on fridays kareoke night Broons- good for a drink after the cinema, a little bit of posh Ma Bells- otherwise known as 'Ya Bells', you might see prince will here! The Raisin- Cheap and cheerful student pub The Tudor} The Keys} ALL OLD MEN PUBS!!! The Central}
  • The Stables - rumoured to be a locals only, English killed on sight place. I'm more English than the Queen, and am still alive despite singing "Made in England" at their Karaoke night, whilst drinking a double (shit) G+T... Then there is the Red Reiver (not the Red River - they have got the decoraters in at the moment :o) )
  • McSorleys is not now called 2 Golf Place, but in fact no. 1 Golf Place. You were close though!
  • Abit out of date with the pub names the Homelea is now shut and is called the Pilmour hotel also McSoreleys is now called 2 golf place
  • I've not seen the Whey Pat mentioned on these pages, which is a pity, as it is one of the best pubs, with pretty much the friendliest staff, that I've been into in a long time. Always have two guest real ales and a good selection of whiskys. Also, someone mentioned "None of this £2.05 crap like in Glasgow or Edinburgh." Man, when were YOU last in St. Andrews? That feted pub of yahs, The Central, has charged me upwards of £2.30 for a pint of Speckled Hen. The Whey Pat sells its real ales at £2.05 a pint these days. And the rumours are that the Student's Union waters everything anyway, so their prices can be ignored...
  • The Tudor Inn for the Psycho boss guy who's always drunk and trying to fight folk!
  • The Cellar Bar serves bottles of Kriek. No frills, good place to just enjoy your beer. The Central is good for football results on a Saturday afternoon.
  • The Tudor, - just a few doors down the street from the New Picture House - is a quiet pub with a nice warm atmosphere. basic , but does the job. it has a fantastic jukebox - not exactly modern stuff, but if you like the smiths, rem, 60s classics etc then give it a go.
  • The cellar Bar. if you enjoy Beer then you should be here. 12 years in the Good Beer Guide, over 250 real ales every year and more malts, rums, schnapps, vodkas and cocktails than any one could reasonably wave a stick at (especially after 2 or 3). Not to mention the biggest range of European Beers for miles. The Great Cellar Bar Pop Quiz runs every Thursday night from 8, featuring sounds from the past 30 years. Not just if you enjoy beer but if you know what a bar is really for - good beer and good times then you should be here.
  • YOU NAMED EVERY PUB IN ST ANDREWS APART FROM THE DUNVEGAN, PLAYFAIR TERRACE
  • Plenty of pubs, The Central, Ma Bells, and The Jigger being three of the more popular, if not the best.
  • The Castle(good, cheap pub), Tudor, Homelea (has board games behind the bar including Jenga, great for after a couple of drinks), McSorely's(expensive Irish theme pub), The Cross keys( full of scary locals), The Vic ( full of half dressed students), The Central ( full of Yahs who have no classes and spend all day there), The Union ( purple and Orange now), Ogston's, Lafferty's and The Cellar ( frequented by the rifle club ), Ma Bells( even more Yahs) and The Russell ( a quiet ,warm pub )
