  • I grew up in St Helens. But I'm not from there originally. That way, I don't see the place thru Rose tinted specs. I love my mates from there, and I love the experience I had of growing up there. BUT, I'm glad I left. There's more to life than Lowies/ Plaza/ Nexus, Saints, endless pints of shite lager and Regal King Size. Life ain't been no bed of roses since I've left. But I'm glad I went off and did something different, and I'll always enjoy my trips "back 'ome"

  • Escaping as long ago as 1974, to never ending never never of Australia, it's quite a contrast. You could ramble all over St H, safely. There's so much barbed wire surrounding so much space here. My kids haven't had the elbow room that we had. Taylor Park Little Lake is woth a big quid. Besides boats and paddling, screwing blades on hob nailed boots to ice skate, no worries. Building sledges, when it snowed, getting air over the band stand. The train to the dreaded 'pool and the steamers, to Llandudno, Isle of Man and even New Brighton. Thanks St H. I owe you.
  • birds
  • Generally friendly people on the whole
  • 90% of my friends and family live here. It's a shithole but it's MY shithole.
  • Pimbletts
  • Home of 'Glass', formerly home of Chemics and a major Wool Producer (until we realised the chemicals damaged the wool and they shipped themselves to Widnes and Runcorn who both smell of pee now because of it). St.Helens RLFC is of course our pride and joy, but our footie club has claimed the FA Vase in the past 10 years at some point (I touched it once too if that counts for anything). Pilks is the biggest employer by a country mile and Beechams used to be there, but left as soon as we built the Link Road Escape Route. Formerly we used to have the biggest Glassware producer (Ravenhead) who were incidentally screwed over by the Belgian company Durobor and whose workers lost their pension in an embezzlement. Currently under investigation, they were asset stripped whilst the government did nothing. Our series of canals and stuff used to be legendary, but are now merely short strips of nothing. Bloody Wiganers rub their Pier in our faces all the time - but it was us who had them first - same with Railways (The Rocket ran right out of Rainhill and you can stand on the Rocket Bridge free of charge and look like a complete nonce - like I did for my GCSE's). There's a lot of heritage in St.Helens. We just build over the top of it.
  • The girls are better looking when they are mature enuf to buy there own round of drinks and not use us for a free beer but you think we would of learned after a million years even EVE ripped us of with an apple

  • WELLIE MAN JOHN - rumours flew around about him being a secret millionaire. He once commended me on my shaved head when a bunch of people were takin the piss (I'm a girl) and told me "Its more hygienic love" he then screamed "Have smoked salmon for tea!" at me and threw some dirt in my face. They should have built a statue of him next to the YMCA not the minors!!

  • scousers still aren't welcome keep up the good work st.helens boys and gals
  • The A570 which leads to the M62 and Liverpool.
  • ANY ROAD OUT. After living in St H for over 25 years I took the big step away - how I wish I had taken it earlier. Looking back, I can see the town is full of narrow minded in bred people who cannot see beyond the East Lancs/M62 boundaries. I remember feeling very left out at school because I wasn't actually related to someone else there! People are born there, live there, work there, go out there, die there - very sad. There is more to life, St Helens!!

  • I would like to say to the ignorrant bitch who left a disgusting message about John Howden and friends that everyone is innocent until proven guilty. I have known John for 19 years and I can tell you that he is the last person in the world who would do something like that. Maybe if you knew the facts you would be a little less hasty to start putting your self opinionated views across. You would also realise that the girl in questions case is very thin and it would seem that the whole thing was totally fabricated. All I can say is thankgod to have moved from St.Helens. The town is a much better place without the likes of you. So do one and please never ever come back to St.Helens, you stupid, pig headed, snotty, little bitch.
  • Despite what some may think, St Helens is an independent town with its own dialect (not scouse!), sports teams, history and even food (splits and pimbletts pies!). We are not connected with Liverpool thank you very much!!!

Carr Mill dam is the place to fish as it is teaming with fish. Others are Moss Nook (day tickets available) and Sandy Bottoms (permits available).
  • Brilliant place names like Crank, Thatto Heath (aka.Donkey Common a long time ago) Red Rocks.
  • Central Library has really good Internet access for a very reasonably price. Its run by "Connect" and the PC are good quality.
  • More amusing place names- Pocket Nook, Fingerpost, Clock Face, Old Whint
  • The environmental improvements that are taking place in the town centre
