Record Shops in St Helens, Merseyside*
The places where you buy your music
You can tell us more about St Helens.
Record Shops
- HMV in the town centre
- For the purists only - Kaleidoscope Records
- IS IT CALLED 'KALIEDOSCOPE RECORDS', THAT DARK RECORD SHOP IN WESTFIELD STREET?
- The best place was our music zone. Cheap, Big and a wide selection of records especially if you were into metal and rock. Ours was about twice as big as the nearby Manchester one. But for some reason its shut down :S
- Kalidescope. Mind you there's HMV where they rip you off and deafen you with rock music until you leave with ringing ears.
- used to go the one in fingerpost, the roundhouse or something it was called, i bought my first takethat lp single from there, though i was all grown up!!
- KALIDOSCOPE it da mutts nuts
- hmv is the best place to go
- music zone love it
- music zone is by far the best and cheapest
- HMV and Music Zone
- MUSIC ZONE!! it's cheaper than HMV but the music they play is rubbish and it smells when you walk up the stairs and loads of people sit inside near the door but the good thing is it isn't that crowded and they have most of the stuff that hmv has but cheaper!!
-OR-
HMV!! loadsa stuff in there but it's well dearer than music zone and way more crowded and say if your in there at christmas then you could be in line to buy for ages and ages but they do have a lot more stuff than music zone so you would probably find what you wanted in there! but it probably would not be cheap at all!!
- Pink pig so you can the new helter skelter tape, an piss your mates off not givin em a copy.
- Pink Pig in Earlstown I know it was the most inbread place in England but where else could ya get your heltaskelta and dethrow techno tapes?
- Not many old style record shops in St Helens unfortunately. At least we've finally got an HMV now. Shame Virgin had to go. There's alwways Kaleidoscope Records on Westfield Street though.
- kaleidescope (or whatever) on westfield street i think is still open and is probs the best bet
- music zone is probably the best. i woulda said hmv, but they suck ass.
- Music Zone
- it has to be kaliedascope. although it was much better when it was upstairs in the old market
- vhs,whsmiths,music zone
- IS THE REDUCED PLACE IN THE MASRKET STILL OPEN PENDING RESPONSE S ILL VOUS PLAIT FRANCAIS FROG LEGS.
- used to be 'Rothery's'opposite Lennons supermarket, now it's JB HiFi - Ringwood, Victoria, Australia
- Maggies Nest, North Road. Sadly.
- Baby World
- Kaleidoscope Records is pretty good. As well as indie and 70s stuff, they have lots of stuff by local bands, which is always nice. If you're in there, get the VCs CD, cos it's ace.
- You're joking? This is the town were "hardcore" rules, and very bad pop music. If you've got an XR3 and the latest Shania Twain CD you're coooool.....
- Kaleidoscope is well good for 2nd hand cds as long as you don't listen to crap dance music
- Sorry, but i live in wigan - although originally from St.Helens - and proud of it - go to Manchester usually for records - or sometimes Music Zone in Wigan.
- HMV RECORDS WHO TOOK IN THE BEATLES
- Maggies nest has a selection of all the classics like cat stevens, erasure,roachford.....
- premier, not a lot of choice but cheap
- kaleidescope(not sure of the spelling),westfield st.
- day and nite,st helens
- Bring back Rotherys.Or consider the Mega stores like HMV & Virgin.
- HMV, Music Zone
- kalidescope and hmv
- kaleidscope,u never know u might find a gem
- Kaleidamoscope, or 'Weirdy Beardies' as many affactionately call it. He says he doesnt have any Iron Maiden records when you can clearly see a nice arrangement of them behind the counter.
- Kaleidoscope Records is fabulous. They stock a lot of vinyl, a lot of folk, and are reccomended by Mojo.
- the little one near to st.mary's good range and cheaper than HMV/ woolies/ Smiths!
- Kaliedascope, for having that rice crispies/ozric tentacles box on the shelf behind the counter for over 10 yrs
- the new hmv rocks!
- hmv is way too small and the staff that work there need to lighten up!
- kaliedoscope lmao
- Only HMV, but its good coz they'll get wateva u want in for ya.
- That place in Westfield St
- try music zone
- Used to work in Music Zone, but Kaleidascope is way better, apart rom the tiny man watching from behind the counter...
- Kaleidoscope, very nice guy works there hes very helpful
- Does anyone remember Our Price, I worked there with some other poor sods under the managerial "expertise" of Gary Wylie(brother of pete), did he ever find out his true parentage???Brian and Ian were ok though. We used to get weirdy beardys coming in and asking for Abba singles (1990) and lesbians buying Barry Manilow. Also made the mistake of playing the masturbation song off life of brian instead of the Brian song for Brian...happy days.
- you couldn't beat the old music zone and getting tickets for the smash hits poll winners party !!
- Music Zone, is the, ZONE, to be in. Dead cheap, well neat and the stairs dont kill your feet.
- music zone
- old rothery radio,u used to stand in a booth to listen the latest
disc,,then u ended up not buying it,,hahaha
- BARRYS DJ SOUNDS IN CLINKHAM WOOD IS THE BEST MUSIC SHOP IN TOWN BY A BLOODY MILE.ITS NEAR THE SARACENS HEAD WHICH HAS UNNECASARRY STILTS THAT WOULD ONLY BE USEFULL IN A FLOOD.(ITS ON A HILL)
- Specialist shops are non existant although your average "St Helener" thinks that the latest "Steps" remix is the latest thing.
- remember the record shop in Finger post?
- LOCALS WONT BUY ANYTHING NOT FRIED OR INCASED IN PASTRY SO IF YOU ARE NOT SELLING A SINGING PIE FORGET IT.
- THE MUSIS SHOP ON WESTFEILD STREET IS GOOD U CAN GET CONTACT LENSES WHICH ARE PROBABLY MADE OF WOOD FOR A FIVER.
- Music zone is the only record shop in St>Helens
- very poor record shops in St.helens but cheap - music zone is cheap but has no selection.
- KALIDOSCOPE RECORDS IS A GOOD RECORD SHOP AS IT HAS LOADS OF ALTERNATIVE STUFF, NOT JUST THE USUAL ATOMIC KITTEN/STEPS CRAP THAT YOU GET EVERYWHERE, ITS ALSO GOT A NOTICEBOARD FOR BANDS THAT ARE WANTING MEMBERS OR HAVE GIGS UNLIKE ALL THE OTHERS IN TOWN WHO DONT GIVE A SHIT ABOUT THE MUSICAL INFLUENCE OF ST HELENS
- That shop further down from the midland, little bloke with ginger beard, always got good stuff in
- As far as dance music is concerned, go to Liverpool or Manchester. There are no good record shops in St Helens. Try 3 Beat or HMV in Liverpool.
- KALEIDOSCOPE, THE OLD MUSIC ZONE THAT WAS NEAR B&M BARGAINS
- what muzic shops??? we have none unless u like s club 7 or chart stuff there really is bugger all....liverpool has em all so a short trip to our neighbours is required to pick up that much maligned cd. CJ
- Alans (upstairs) is the dogs nuts, various styles of punk, hip-hop, and even the demos of local bands.
- we only have one decent one now, music zone, were you can get an album for £6.99!
- Kaliedesope records in the Market - how I longed to be able to Ltd edition imported only one of its kind Album for the ridiculous price of £250. Run by the guy who owns the comic shop in the Simpsons
- music zone. thats it sorry.
- Maggies nest on North Road, known for its quality afordable second hand goods
- music zone
- pound land!!!! bargins gallore
- I bought my first single, Born to be with you - by Dave Edmonds, from Rotherys record shop in Ormskirk Street. They used to have walk-in booths where you could listen to a tune of your choice - very 60s!
I remember my mates buying records from Babyworld, also in Ormskirk Street.
Preedy's in St Mary's Market when it first opened used to have a good selection of records. Also, upstairs in the old Boots on Ormskirk Street.
- Woolworths is good but so is music box
- Kaledescope Records, Westfield St
- dunno virgins my record shop
- Remember 'Music 69'? Now that was a record shop.
- I dont buy records any more as I tend to download the single on mp3 for free.
- Kaleidoscope is good for specialist records and there are a couple of cheap places, but seriously there is nowhere better than Virgin. Great range, helpful staff and a much better atmosphere than some of the cheaper warehouse places!
- We only have one decent record shop and i have forgotton the name of it.I think it is HMV, however the music selection is very good even though they did'nt have a MAZE cd when I asked for it.
- McWalters Modern Music is a very classy music store situated just outside of the town centre
- Kaleidascope , Westfield St AKA Shady Ken's
- R.I.P. The Music Zone - Has any one mentioned Kaleidescope Records - The guy everyone knows as "Bloke from t'market who's not in t'market anymore!"
- The Pink Pig in Earlestown....near the market!!
- WH Smith sells a great line in Cliff Richard CD's
- Kaleidescope Records is really cool and worth a look. Esp if you like the Grateful dead. The owner sometimes called Shady ken is a mind of information..... they also have a Vampyros lesbos picture disc for sale (ie.rare as Gold dust)
