The Knowhere Guide

The Best Things in St. Peter Port, Channel Islands*

If you're around, be sure to check these things out

You can tell us more about St. Peter Port.

The Best Things
  • The lifestyle - where else can you leave your office at 5 and be anchored off a sandy beach on a small island a few minutes later. (assuming you have a boat). Low Tax (that's jinxed it now)
  • drinkin
  • summer evening at dusk, sunsets from the fairy ring at pleimont
  • low crimerate.friendly people.loads of nice beaches.
  • Local birds, doing their best to increase the gene pool, all the best for outside workers, come and try them- some are quite good and a few are alright looking as well.
  • beaches, sun, sand, weather & politeness of most locals
  • The way everyone knows each other (thats bad if your doing something you shouldnt be though...believe me)
  • Guernsey girls are notoriously shall we say 'fun lovin' nudge nudge wink wink. It is possibly due to to the constantly changing population of Irish, Scottish, Welsh builders and the fun to be had with us randy blokes away from home, compared to the locals (affectionately known as 'donkeys'). And there's nothing wrong with 'loving fun'!
  • the beaches for sure
  • The beaches - some of the cleanest in the UK The people - a true Guernsey person will never not talk to somebone (unless they're from Jersey) The weather - so hot in summer that you just feel like you want to flake out on a beach The views - breathtaking!! No VAT - except in Marks and Spencer Beach Parties - You know that summer has finally arrived when the first beach party of the year is held Fortresses and Martello Towers - although built by the Germans during the Occupation these are dotted all over the island and mark our history
  • a lor of redevelopment going on...about *1£@6(€! time liberation day - the only day ever to be a proud guern!
  • Grammar School
  • POT
  • No crime, Good living conditions, Cheap booze (duty free!)
  • Cliff walks, scenery, making friends.
  • guernsey people
  • The fresh fish shop on the harbour side
  • The Summertime
  • Small and Friendly go out you'll always see at least one of your mates.
  • The fact that it is a close knit community. The fact that you could still knock on someone's door at any hour of the night if you had broken down or whatever and you would be safe. The crime level is very low, unless we are talking about certain estates like The Bouet or Rue Jehannet. The people are mostly friendly and accomodating. The beaches and the fantastic views. The fact that people you don't know will stand and talk to you like they've know you all their life. The VAT free prices (apart from M&S) and the way that Guernsey is still an exclusive little island that is safe. The fact that we have local shops where people will call you by your first name and talk about your family.
  • Lack of crime. Food. The veiw from the Rockmount Hotel.
  • The great number of varied walks one can take at a moment's notice - as soon as the sun appears - and all within a short drive away. For a writer Guernsey has an invitingly peaceful air, conducive to musing.
  • There are no Jersey people!!!!!!!!
  • I think terrorvison are playing on April the 1st, which seems to be stirring up a lot of interest for some reason ?
  • Being away from "The Rat Race".............& still having £1 notes !!
  • Brilliant nightlife - just go out & pub-crawl through St Peter Port on a Friday or Sat'day night - you'll be bound to make a friend or two!
  • The people - some of the friendliest in the world. The scenery - a floral paradise mixed with (mainly)tasteful buildings - many built with local granite stone. Attractive cost of living, and VAT free shopping.
