- Fantastic area if you like local history - home to waves of immigrants since the Huguenots first came over, once a posh schooling district (both Danial Defoe and Edgar Allen Poe were educated here), part of the borough of Hackney that takes in areas including the once poverty-striken but now trendy Shoreditch, and the once genteel and now Jewish Stamford Hill.
