  • We have lived in stoke on trent all of our lives, and we do not agree with most of the things stated in the above comments. I am a stokie and as you can see we clearly know how to spell, and we are only a young girls. I do agree that Hanley (the town centre) is abit rough due to the people who hang around there; and the bus station isn't a very nice place to be if you're there for a while, but I don't mind it that much. Stoke-on-trent is actually spending millions to produce a new bus station, that will be finished by February next year. It is also in the process of making a new cinema and a new shopping centre, so all of you complaining about that can now stop being such shallow minded idiots, and do something about 'Stoke' if you think its so bad instead of being key board warriors who just want to rant about Stoke because your hometown is probably just as bad. To judge all of Stoke by a few people who are around is definitly narrow minded and most of all stupid. I haven't expirienced nothing of what all of you are saying and i dont get approached by old men.. therefore you are probably making it up, or it was a one off. I do generally think Stoke isnt the best of places but that isn't to say everyone here is just a scumbag whos on the dole and doesn't want to achieve anything in life. As, that is our and many people's ambitions for the future. I wouldn't actually choose to live here myself if I had a choice but it's no where near as bad as some of you are making out. And whoever said oatcakes taste like shit, need to sort their lives out because theyre gorgeous! I don't like tomatoes, but i don't go slagging off whoever made them. Also; people slagging off Robbie Williams are obviously jealous that he's done something with his life unlike yourselves and probably wont ever be as succesful as him. Stoke actually isn't a shit hole, although it is run down but what do you expect when its been around for 100 years now, and used to be all pot-banks and mines? SHUT UP WITH YOUR CRAP I COULD WRITE PLENTY MORE ABOUT MANCHESTER AND LIVERPOOL.
  • I love tbe fact people are able to slag us of ever so easily, but heey,if we visitedur town,by the sounds of things,we would be bored as fuck, we enjoy ourselves, and people who come from stoke who say its shit, well tell uswho u are and we will certainly love a chat, also i find it quite nice living in stoke, people may not be the nicest, but we know how to have a laugh,so fuck all you outsiders cus we are proud of who we are, notpeople who go on sites like this to comment on how “bad” we supposedly are, ifs clear that everyone negatively posting are ignorant 0% tolerant peices of shit who have nothing better to do than write paragraphs on other places,go get a fucking life u foreign fucks (16yrs)
  • For all you slaters - IT'S WHERE THE BEST PLATES CAME FROM YOU KNOBS Newcastle under Lyme - actually has some of the most beautiful countryside around and a quaker estate akin to Bournville in Brum. Really, if you don't like it - you don't have to stay.

  • CLUFF HALL - CUZ WE BUM THEM..MARYHILL RNT AS GUD AS THEM CHE...WE'LL FUK YAZ ALL UPPPPP
  • Parkour community is buzzing
  • erm nothin
  • I moved here from the South. Being a fan of the computer game SIM City I am enjoying seeing the regeneration of the area, albeit at sloth speed.
  • Trentham Gardens and the Monkey Sanctuary - you can walk or get the boat or train to the forest that is home to the barbary macaque monkeys, roaming freely around their new habitat. Great family day out and cheap at a 5 entrance. Also plenty of specialist shops to browse and of course the gardens.
  • is (i hear) that gHOSTbOY of www.ghostboy.co.uk came from here.
  • there arnt any realy..the entire city is a crap pile without a roof over it and that all lays at the feet of the council...
  • your 20 mins from all the shops you could want. Then another 20 mins from some of the best country side there is. Also you dont have to put up with shite rush hour traffic jams. And we dont sound like brummies or scousers which can only be good?
  • THE TRAMPS
  • I have to laugh out loud at the "Why Stoke is the Arse End of the World" comments. How pretencious are you! I cannot help but wonder how high your IQ is - did you have to leave Stoke because you didn't have the brains to be accepted at Keele!!Having lived in Newcastle all my life - not Stoke - they are totally seperate cities by the way I totally disagree with your opinions. My partner is from Abbey Hulton in Stoke and having received a 1st Class Hons Degree in English and History from Keele (as did I) his IQ is far from that of a beansprout. So please - although you have left Stoke remember your roots and some people aren't fortunate to have the opportunities that you have had. Oh yeah and please stay wherever you are Stokies are friendly (on the whole) and don't need arrogant shitheads like you dragging them down!!!
  • when u leave
  • The complete sense of knowing we live in the most depressing place in britain and still manage a smile evne amongst all the addicts, gangsters and chavs
  • We are the most well placed city in the country because we are half way to everywhere!! Robbie Williams is from stoke! We make the best pottery and everyone else makes lump that i wouldnt let a dog eat off. Everyone disses Stoke and say its a dump and i would agree to a certain degree but these people who diss stoke are the first to come up here for cheap seconds pottery instead of paying the proper price, therefore less money is being put back into stoke!! stoke is very pretty if you go away from the town centre. Most people are too narrow minded to think that there are nice areas around stoke. those people are mostly the southerners. stokies are friendly people in general but we do get thugs like another city in the country. we are not all chavs and mingers. id rather have a stokie accent than a liverpudlian, or southern accent!!!!
  • sneaky culture (vintage clothes) and art cafe. i live here
  • I moved to Los Angeles in 1988. (lived in Stoke for 28 years). After being around fake breasts and botox implants for the last few years it was a great and unexpected suprise when I revisited Stoke and was reminded just how natural and good looking the women are there.
  • Hanley is alright if you go on a weekday when its quite empty, but its a bit boring after a while, proabably the best thing is stoke's central location, you can get to most places rather quickly!
  • The people are often very polite, not always, but quite often Trentham Gardens will be something to be very very proud of when it is complete, even though it will be incredibly commercialised Longton Bus Station The idea of Festival Park Stoke City Oatcakes Seeing the Brittannia Stadium when you are coming home on the train or on the road Stoke Station
  • small therefore can walk in emergencies the 2 universities bands: the wow, princess headbutt, fruit saloon, the mostons cheap food/drink/rent etc
  • Air
  • duck
  • Er...well, it makes elsewhere look better...
  • really, really nasty people. always a party somewhere.
  • Its my home, and i dont give a shit wat ne1 says, its where i was brought up and it is where everybody i love are. I wouldnt leave this place for anyhting.
  • bacon and cheese oatcakes, i think that is it!
  • Some of the people,
  • cheap housing slappers and the reputation after all who wants to fuck with a stokie
  • Having a drinkin mount pleasent on a friday and saturday night.
  • Knowing that you don't HAVE to live here..
  • stoke people are rough and will kick the shit out of any southern c**ts who think they are bigtime.
  • People's sense of humour - you know what they say, when things are as bad as they are in Stoke, you either laugh or cry. Port Vale and their supporters!
  • Oatcakes and the droves of people who actually stand inline outside these establishments on Staurdays and Sundays, waiting to fill them with artiery clogging lard cooked bacon and black pudding, to shorten thier driery existance in good old Stoke. Closing down the pits and all the cermaic and steel industry infact the only industry left is oatcakes, so yes we are selfsufcient,We don`t need industry we need more Oatcake shops. That new immagration court in forrest park. What a super idea. Welcome Mr Saddam and all his family to our beautiful city.Once they see what an actual shithole it really is.Maybe our former enemys may not be so quick to join our land of Milk and honey.
  • every fin
  • FLYING OVER STOKE ON TRENT ON THE WAY TO ANYWHERE,LOOKING DOWN OVER THE WASTELANDS AND LAUGHING YER BOLLOKS OFF CAUSE YOUVE ONLY GOT A ONE WAY TICKET
  • People who can laugh at themselves, despite having crap jobs and a shit place to live in. Port Vale FC Cheap place to live
  • After reading this site, funny as some of it is, I can't actually believe that people can draw such sweeping assumptions about a place that is actually not so bad, I could easily name equally, if not considerably worse 'shitholes' to live. Despite popular assumption Stoke has loads of good points and let me add that Robbie Williams is NOT one of them. The people, the beautiful countryside, the live music, some of the pubs, its cheap, cheerful and for fucksake give the place a break... the constant knocking of stoke is both annoying & boring, the solution... if you don't like the place don't come here.... SIMPLE!
  • stoke isnt as bad as its made out to be . that survey that said it was the worst place to live in britain was rubbish there are worse places with much higher crime levels.try going to middlesborough or sunderland or just birmingham which is much bigger and mostly a horrible dangerous place.the women are not ugly loads of fit girls there and mostly friendly unlike stuck up posh girls in shrewsbury. the accents alright i,m from market drayton and ours is more boring. fair enough it is mostly a dump but everyone slagging it off will just make it more stigmatised and lead to getting worse and having less investment.people are mainly friendly there and will help u out if they can which cannot be said for south of england i know i,ve lived on the south coast!stoke city are a great underdog team to support and most fans are a laugh even if some can get nasty, if all people in stoke supported them instead of man utd or even pointless port vale they would be doing better.nightlife is ok but newcastle seems better hanley gets dodgy but have had a few good nights in void.the thing that really annoys me is the reputation that stoke people have when they dont deserve it they are mostly great people. also stokes cheap and is close to loads of great countryside and alton towers and u can always clear off up liverpool/manchester/sheffield in no time cos its well situated.

  • Stoke may look a shit hole! i lived here 16 years and im lovin it! people in stoke are mint!
  • Student Girls! (Please see my post in 'The Worst Things' about Stoke-on-Trent)
  • The cheapness around here, it may have been voted the worst place in britain but living is cheap!
  • Everything about stoke is brill. I have lived here all my life and are proud of it. Say what you want about it, all i can say is all those that slag it off are all vale scum. Stokies are the best.
  • People are cheerful and smile. A50 lets you get places-fast!
  • Bein able to go 2 hanley to get away from stoke
  • The Britannia Stadium, home of Stoke City FC
  • Its all good, its not too big either and festival park is gud 2!
  • The People of Stoke, the best in the land
  • Port Vale...and, er... that's about it. Oh, and the people are used to taking the piss out of themselves by now.
  • The parks, and some nice people
  • I hand on heart can't think of one good thing to come out of this helll hole. It truly is a shameful place and I would prefer to live in Moss Side.
  • oat cakes, mates, parties atfriends houses
  • Stokie accent is tops, oatcakes especially bacon and cheese, Robbie Williams, gorgeous girls, ok night clubs, everyone friendly(sort of), all stokies will come to gether to sort out any outsider who wants to slag our town off, Port Vale, pottery(i think), wrights pies, slash
  • Where to start....oatcakes (from Locketts) Football, Robbie, Sir Stan, Pubs, locals, friendlyness, beautiful men & women !!!!!!!,the fact the we are the worst city in the country & we have the worst reputation for football violence. Leave Stokies alone we are great how we are. Stay away outsiders.
  • Stoke city f.c are now back in the 1st division fuck off vale we want ur blood
  • Bentilee, Abbey, Meir, Chell Heath, Normacot, Dresden, cool places to grow up in. Makes you streetwise and not take shit off anybody (much)
  • People are cool as long as you avoid the smackheads/crackheads/dickheads/football hooligans/arseholes Out of 250 000 people in stoke on trent maybe 30000 smackheads, 20000 crackheads, 100 000 dickheads, 15000 hooligans, 5000 arseholes Fancy yer chances?
  • the people,of course
  • Most lads are nice. N as for the twats who said the girls look like bulldogs, its a crock of shit, probably said it cuz we arent easy as the tarts in their own city and the lads MUST have been minging pricks
  • The fact that travelling away from Stoke is like riding a magical time machine into the future
  • ROBBIE WILLIAMS!!!!!!!!!
  • the memory loss and what caused it
  • Stoke people are usually very affable and helpful; and they don't have that 'chip-on-the-shoulder' you so often get up in Manchester and Liverpool. Good shopping centre in Hanley. Great atmospheric/fine architecture everywhere you look (even it most of it's crumbling). A rail station which looks like a rail station should, like some big church, run very efficiently, and with excellent secure cycle-locking - but the cafe's food selection and quality is very poor; soggy microwaved sausage roll a speciality :-(
  • The people!Stokies are so funny.their humour is second to none. They take the piss out of each other constantly but still laugh!Good humour is when you can laugh at yourself & your problems & this bunch have definately got it.They are friendly too especially the owd uns.Your gauranteed a good laugh if you move up there.Hanley is good for goin out.
  • Stoke-on-trent is gods own city.Oatcakes you gotta try em.the accent & dialect is brilliant.common as muck though but talk to an owd stokie & you won't understand him!thats cus its gods own city so we have our own language
  • I get to laugh all the way home on my train to London
  • Stokies don't have any grand parents because most of them volunteered to be at the front lines of the first and second world wars. It's a fact.
  • no really there are none!
  • FREINDLY PEOPLE IN THE RIGHT PLACES, LOADS OF PUBS, GOLDEN @ THE VOID.
  • FREINDLY PEOPLE IN THE RIGHT PLACES, LOADS OF PUBS, GOLDEN @ THE VOID.
  • Outside the nasty trendy bars, you can always find a local dodgy place that will serve you beer for as long as you're concious. If you're lucky, it'll have an outside toilet. Don't expect any intelligent conversation with any of the locals, though. You can still find local shops with two of each item displayed on the shelf (and none of that fancy Happy Shopper stuff, neither). Absolutely fantastic Balti's.

  • The Road to Congleton The Road to Stone The Road to Leek The Road to Nantwich (at least its quick the A500, most of the times at least) The Road to Shrewsbury The Road to Alton Towers The Road to Uttoxeter
  • Stoke people are only judjed by the bad things visit for yourself and you will be pleasantly suprised
  • If your from there it is the friendliest city in the world which is great we dont want shitty southerners coming and telling us how shit our home is we know it already. Oh and the fact that were the hardest and Oatcakes.
  • The fact that everybody around is suffering the same torture as you are every day.
  • there is a music scene honest great bands such as slight return....10p wasted. alpha 9
  • When you leave
  • Everyone knows each other
  • Nice country side once you get out of the scum of the cities.
  • port vale, oatcakes, friendly people (sometimes), the fact that it is a shithole ;), the fact that we are harder than anyone else in the country
  • Our accent, oatcakes, the sentinel, robbie, the vale, oatcakes, festival park, potteries centre, oatcakes, the art of confusin people on holiday cuz they dont recognise where you're from, the fact everythin is just the right size, did i mention oatcakes?!!
  • Laid back Frendly City.
  • Laughing at/Beating up Stokies. And defacing the place.
  • COMMUNIBUS - THE FINEST DIAL A RIDE AND COMMUNITY TRANSPORT SERVICE PROVIDING A SERVICE FOR THE ELDERLY AND DISABLED, EVEN ON CHRISTMAS DAY - LOVED BY ALL EXCEPT STOKE CITY COUNCIL. COME ON CITY COUNCIL, SHOW YOUR SUPPORT OF A MAGNIFICENT SERVICE.
  • It's home and the people are down to earth and really friendly.
  • Matt Tee's zine, The Exclusive, almost the best reason to go into Fantasy World in Hanley. It is only a couple of pounds and is one of the best value music zines I've come across. Matt is very friendly and if you write him a nice letter you'll get a good reply. (Sorry I haven't written back yet Matt - Heather M.)
  • I am currently at Loughborough University where I am having a great time. I get a lot of stick for coming from Stoke but I don't care because it is great. At Loughborough there is to many public school, rugby playing wankers who find it amusing to down pints with their penis's hanging out. The people who live in stoke are very genuine but no wonder they are miserable if all that people do when they come is slag it off. There is plenty of things to do in Stoke in particular Golden @ the Void which is arguarbly the best club in the North. So until you've actually experienced what Stoke really has to offer then you have no room to comment.
  • The M6 by-passes it to the west.
  • The bus service is ok, but expensive if your coming to stoke you need a buz about which weill take you around stoke on trent cheaper(under 3.00) or a fareday which will take you anywhere in staffs.nightclubs and easy reach of the city
  • Oatcakes, Hanley Park (actually in Shelton), Trentham Gardens, Trentham Park, Rudyard Lake, Keele University Stoke Wakes, the 'D' road (for getting to and away from Stoke). Mow Cop castle (the centre of the universe in a book called "Red Shift", The canal through Hanley Park going to Etruria.
  • Even though Stoke and Vale fans hate each other they'll join together in joyous harmony to kick the crap out of any and all visiting supporters
  • Stoke City FC
  • 15 mins from the peaks, countryside in every direction
  • Oatcakes, served with bacon and cheese.
  • People calling you 'duck': you rarely get it elsewhere.
  • Comedian, Nick Hancock, shame he supports Stoke City though
  • My ex-boss Spence, again poor choice of footie team in Port Vale.
  • Pubs, Buses, Festival Park.
  • The police are quite friendly(!)
  • The Potteries Shopping Center has the best range of shops I have seen in my whole life (and I've seen quite a few). The accent is great, best one in the county.
  • I am one of those persons who tells everyone how wonderful Stoke is - that much is true!
    • It's in the centre of the Country, so you can get anywhere quiet easily, unlike Newbury.
    • Another good point: Port Vale are currently bottom of the league!
    • 'Stokies' are very friendly people unlike Southern Softies! That's got to be a plus point.
    • The buses all have the initials 'PMT' painted on the side, which is dead funny if you have that sort of humour.
    • Massive cinema complex "Festival Park".
    • I quite like the accent - it's good for not having to speak to any southerners.
  • Not that far from Alton Towers.
