  • Re: I still check here...does anyone else? by Vyk (Member 10000872) on 29-Nov-2008
    Sometimes.

  • Re: I still check here...does anyone else? by Andrew Haywood (Member 10000698) on 2-Dec-2008
I guess facebook is a more immediate form these days...though less exlusive.

  • Re: I still check here...does anyone else? by Plebster (Member 10084319) on 2-Dec-2008
Arr...but is it less exclusive? We have made the mistake that Big Brother contestants make and forget that people could be watching (reading in this case), presuming that it's just us few. I've bumped into quite a few people in the past who have read it and am mortified - let's hope it was just a cursory glance. By the way do you realise there is almost 10 years of puerile nonsense/amusing trivia ... more >>

  • Re: I still check here...does anyone else? by Andrew Haywood (Member 10000698) on 4-Dec-2008
Yes...I know the sense of exclusiveness is just an illusion, but I bet all the voyeurs have moved on now...seeing as we haven't posted anything vaguelly interesting in a while. Oh, Sally Collins says she saw you in Menith Wood in the van, near her house.

  • Re: I still check here...does anyone else? by andy pye (Member 10215788) on 4-Dec-2008
yeau i keep an eye on the blog now and again

  • Re: I still check here...does anyone else? by Plebster (Member 10084319) on 4-Dec-2008
Err...I hope she didn't tell you what I was doing in Menith Wood! She's gone up in the world it's pretty posh round there, tell her to come on and join.

  • Re: I still check here...does anyone else? by Andrew Haywood (Member 10000698) on 5-Dec-2008
Sally says you were soliciting little old ladies to climb into your van for a "joyride".

Pants' Wedding by Andrew Haywood (Member 10000698) on 29-Jul-2008
Right Pleb, did you, or anyone else I know, embarass themselves on Saturday?
  • Re: Pants' Wedding by Plebster (Member 10084319) on 30-Jul-2008
The only person to embarrass themselves was the groom! After the reception there was an interval before the house party so a few of us went to the pub (all part of the itinery). Unfortunately one of the bride's relatives plied him with sambuca. I was then instructed to take him back to the house by taxi where I dropped him off before I went to get some money and fags. On my return he was being car... more >>

I told you to prepare a speech! Ho ho, was he in a fit state to consumate his marriage then? I reckon Bimpey can't be too bothered about Janklies religeous views, otherwise they'd have broken up 10 or 20 break-ups ago...it must be a show she puts on for her family. How could her family possibly dissapprove of a teacher, someone respected in the community, and a role model to all those impressionab... more >>

  • Re: Pants' Wedding by Plebster (Member 10084319) on 30-Jul-2008
Yes. She seemed quite nice, a little quiet and a little over weight. Not a goddess by any stretch of the imagination but didn't give the impression of a crazed fundamentalist either (then again that's because she evidently is not). Most importantly she was obviously able to keep up with Jankly in his 6 hour marathons.

  • Re: Pants' Wedding by Andrew Haywood (Member 10000698) on 30-Jul-2008
What sort of marathons would those be? Running? Not Jankly, 6 seconds maybe...but not 6 hours. Sex? Again no, 6 minutes MAYBE, with a really thick condom on. Drinking? In his youth definately, but not these days. It can only be sleeping...there's nothing quite like a nice 6 hour doze in the afternoon!

Hold on a cotten pickin' moment... this thread is about Pants' wedding... why are people dissing me... lol I will have you know I was one of the inglorious five on the pub crawl, champers in the reception, 3 pints + sambuca in the first pub, a pint each in the next two pubs (whereupon a relatively sober Jankley pushed Pleb and RR into a cab) THEN Fireman Lee and Multi-millionaire Richard carried o... more >>

  • Re: Pants' Wedding by andy pye (Member 10215788) on 5-Aug-2008
The only building that remains is the new part they built while we where there . the reason i drove over to stourport. i was talking to miss hall anybody remember. and the girls pestered me to go an have a look.

  • Re: Pants' Wedding by Puckoon (Member 10202172) on 5-Aug-2008
It was the Conservative County Council not the Labour government that voted to get rid of Arley Common, rebuild Windmill, go to a two tier system, etc. It was opposed by Labour and Health Concern. However as most of the country is two tier I think it was probably the right thing to do. As for 'bring back Maggie' I can't remember her being a defender of the education system, it was cuts after cuts... more >>

I thought you despised Soft cell and bands of the new romantic wave, I am sure you used to refuse to talk to me when I used to sit in the common room with my pixie boots on re-applying my eye liner.(opening for loads of abuse from john there). Bloody good choice of albums though vyk, I thought you were more of a Hawkwind/camel fan.

  • Re: Shell Island by Vyk (Member 10000872) on 3-Jun-2008
Absolutely. But nostalic 80's stuff makes for a little light relief. Apart from SAW - at which I have to draw the line (sorry Pleb!). I mean... The Reynolds Girls...

  • Re: Shell Island by Vyk (Member 10000872) on 3-Jun-2008
    Or, nostalgic, even.

  • Re: Shell Island by Vyk (Member 10000872) on 3-Jun-2008
And in the spirit of nostalgia, I've just dug out 'Eliminator'.

  • Re: Shell Island by Vyk (Member 10000872) on 3-Jun-2008
Not even with eye-liner and pixieboots, sorry.

  • Re: Shell Island by Plebster (Member 10084319) on 3-Jun-2008
What a depressing choice of music, the 80's really were a low point. Only at the tail end did we get a glimmer of hope with bands such as the aforementioned 'Reynolds Girls'. The immortal line 'I'd rather Jack than Fleetwood Mack' was vastly superior to Fish's interminable lyrics.

    Succinctly put.

  • Re: Shell Island by Andrew Haywood (Member 10000698) on 5-Jun-2008
Yesterday I was mostly playing Mooncresta on MAME at work. I also tried out Quasar (which Vyk was a bit good at in the good old Flam, when we were 14 or so), but I was rubbish, so stopped.

  • Re: Shell Island by Vyk (Member 10000872) on 5-Jun-2008
When I tried MAME (at home) I found the games too hard... Maybe they're easier when played on a games cabinet with fag-burned buttons that takes 10p credits and some git keeps trying to nick your last credit with threats of violence.

  • Re: Shell Island by gary coulson (Member 10206266) on 5-Jun-2008
Lee Brown Did used to hang around the Flam didn't he....Lost a few credits on Battle Zone to him and his gang.

  • Re: Shell Island by Vyk (Member 10000872) on 5-Jun-2008
I wasn't thinking of Lee. I never had any 'issues' there (thankfully!).

  • Re: Shell Island by gary coulson (Member 10206266) on 5-Jun-2008
    Alan Hayden?

  • Re: Shell Island by Andrew Haywood (Member 10000698) on 5-Jun-2008
I didn't have problems in the Flam with any of the Browns either, but I think it was one of their mates. I can visualize the bugger (as a 15 year old of course), but can't remember his chavving name. Anyway, I saw him years later and he was shorter and weedier than me by then...SCORE!

  • Re: Shell Island by Vyk (Member 10000872) on 5-Jun-2008
    No issues with Alan either.

  • Re: Shell Island by Andrew Haywood (Member 10000698) on 5-Jun-2008
I think I lost most credits while playing Asteroids. Was it Richard Thomas or Pleb whose Asteroids technique was to just rotate in the middle of the screen (constantly) with the fire button held down...essentially random, without ever using the thruster or hyperspace?

  • Re: Shell Island by Vyk (Member 10000872) on 5-Jun-2008
    Think it was Tim's.

  • Re: Shell Island by Andrew Haywood (Member 10000698) on 5-Jun-2008
I think you're right. It was a technique that meant every 10p spent was wasted.

  • Re: Shell Island by Vyk (Member 10000872) on 5-Jun-2008
LoL (as they say)... but that could be true of most of the ten pences spent in the Flam'...

  • Re: Shell Island by Vyk (Member 10000872) on 5-Jun-2008
You noticed how much music is on Youtube these days?

  • Re: Shell Island by Andrew Haywood (Member 10000698) on 5-Jun-2008
Nope, I don't visit it much. I use www.deezer.com to listen to music these days. Unfortunately they don't have too much older stuff, but it's all free. I was trying to track down Levitation (Hawkwind's of course), but without success. I may try youtube though.

  • Re: Shell Island by Vyk (Member 10000872) on 5-Jun-2008

  • Re: Shell Island by Plebster (Member 10084319) on 5-Jun-2008
Vyk - have you seen Huw Lloyd Langton on Youtube? There's a couple of good ones on there. Apparently he played in Worcester a few years ago, did you see him? Also some old Camel which is good. Youtube is great for refinding old vids that you taped over then regretted years later. Worst is some lad rapping from Stourport - is worst thing ever.

  • Re: Shell Island by Vyk (Member 10000872) on 5-Jun-2008
Apparently Hawkwind are playing Wyeside Music Festival, Hereford on Saturday.

  • Re: Shell Island by Vyk (Member 10000872) on 5-Jun-2008
No, didn't see Huw in Worcester. Missed Alan Davey (Bedouin) too.

I thought that Electric Six video was good! Wasn't slagging the band just thought there may be a hidden subtext to you bringing them up. The last time I saw Gary(22 years ago) he was into Japan and DoA (Alan Haden's copy of you spin me round) so I can't believe he's still listening to them (or am I imagining hidden subtexts everywhere?). • Re: Boom Bang A Bang! by Vyk (Member 10000872) on 7-Apr-2008
Presume Cheesley went to the Windmill (Huzza!!), as knowledge of Simon Oakland is apparent from Cheeseley's application of the label "king of the geeks".

  • Re: Boom Bang A Bang! by Plebster (Member 10084319) on 7-Apr-2008
Did Barney have an elongated neck? I'll have to look in through the Wheatsheaf window next time I walk past.

  • Re: Boom Bang A Bang! by Plebster (Member 10084319) on 7-Apr-2008
Or maybe he went to Kings? Or maybe Simon's reputation went farther afield. Cheesley - we wait with baited breath for the answers? (no jokes about Jankly always having bait on his breath)(or Henry iv part one quotes - Vyk).

  • Re: Boom Bang A Bang! by Plebster (Member 10084319) on 7-Apr-2008
My performance (or Gareth's, Chris Barrett's or Jankly's stagehand work) clearly made a great impression on you Vyk. However you managed to get it in there somewhere - 'Do I not bate' - indeed.

  • Re: Boom Bang A Bang! by Vyk (Member 10000872) on 7-Apr-2008
Yes I managed to get it in. It would have been rude not to. Henry IV will never be the same for me since Ralph's "who wants to be the King? Alright, I'll read it then" (spraying the front row, the while)... That and the abortive trip to Brum to see it at the theatre, only to find that the lead had broken a leg (or something) and we had to come all the way home again.

  • Re: Boom Bang A Bang! by Plebster (Member 10084319) on 8-Apr-2008
Henry iv will never be the same for anyone who saw my amazing thespian capabilities - especially that girl's school who pissed themselves laughing every time i came on the stage.

  • Re: Boom Bang A Bang! by Neville A. Hallam (Member 10056214) on 8-Apr-2008
I do indeed go under my own name! As for Henry, I too was on the scenary detail, and my memories are of nearly dropping the "Forest" scenery on the first 4 rows. The forest was large pieces of hardboard that had to be hooked up with piano wire to the front of the stage - nightmare

  • Re: Boom Bang A Bang! by Plebster (Member 10084319) on 8-Apr-2008
Yes Gary, and you told everybody. Neville your incompetent backstage work was overshadowed by Jankly - keeping his finger on the smoke machine and engulfing the actors in a fog.

On the contrary - i have fond memories of Stourport and always visit every time i return to the UK. There are many things i miss about the UK many of them peculiar to Stourport. I used to enjoy the pub life there and miss the slight 'League of Gentlemen' eccentricity of the locals. Australia is great but i wouldn't be averse to moving back to the auld country one day. (I even miss the weather sometimes!).

Old School Photos by Sprucie (Member 10017974) on 13-Mar-2008
Hi all, has anyone got any of our old school photos online anywhere? I am feeling nostalgic and haven't seen some of the Windmill middle school photos (e.g. French school trip) for ages. I found an old one taken on a trip to Butlins (I wasn't there) on Friends Reunited: http://www.friendsreunited.co.uk/friendsreunited.asp?WCI=GalleryPlace&school_key=138161

Bugger it - look up photos of Windmill CofE Middle School - I recognise: Mr. Bell, Jane Houlton, Joanne Higgs, Adele Lane, Donna Stoneman, Richard Thomas (front row in track suit), Joanne Bingham, Julie Amer (R.I.P.) amongst others.

  • Re: Old School Photos by Plebster (Member 10084319) on 13-Mar-2008
I have a picture of Mr Simances class somewhere - 1977. Quite a few on the photo went into low level crime. I'll have to dig it out.

    That's quite an allegation, Andrew!

  • Re: Old School Photos by Plebster (Member 10084319) on 27-Mar-2008
Yes that's a pretty scurillous suggestion, if I was Michelle I would hurl an old hidden allegation against Mole like she did against Sprucie (the groper in the dark episode). As for Puckoon, Gary has posted since the false declaration of his demise. p.s. Jankly has just texed me - he's pissed and lying on his bathroom floor.

  • Re: Old School Photos by Plebster (Member 10084319) on 27-Mar-2008

I seem to recall Gary h wanting to rip Studs head off for wrecking his bike, i can't remember if it was in the bike sheds though. I spent most of my time running around the play ground to keep away from Mark Hubble because i took the piss out of his eye and rediculously hairy chest.

She did ring the bell, if it was her turn, she had to share the job with the other teachers though John.

Just spotted another teacher on the photo - second from left on front row. Is it Miss Sholtz (of 6S)? My first form teacher who was quite hot as I recall.

He could run quite fast as I recall...used to win the sports day events for Teme.

He can barely beat Ted the Head in a race to the gents these days.

Didn't he get run over, though?

By Ted the Head in his mobility scooter? I think so.

Avon was best...bring on the house points! You were in Stour weren't you Steve?

I seem to remember something along the lines of A-V, A-V-O, A-V-O-N, AVON! Or it could be the meds kicking in again.

Avon was best? Using what criteria exactly? Yes I was in Stour and proud of it. We never won anything but had fun anyway. I don't recall how you were "sorted" into houses but my sister was also in Stour so previous generations may have played a part.

The best were put in Avon, the worst in Stour. Younger siblings were put in the same house as their elders. Avon was best because it had me and Vyk...but mostly because it also had Simon Oakland, who ended up at King's in Worcester so must have been very clever. Stour had Guy Winnal as I recall. Pleb, you were in Avon too weren't you?

    ...or was it Teme?

  • Re: Old School Photos by Plebster (Member 10084319) on 2-Apr-2008
Yes. It was full of geeks. Teme was the sporty one but lost it's crown to Wye who went on to win everything. Stour was for the drop outs. I think I was in the wrong house.

    Then again maybe I wasn't.
