The Stuff We Can't Fit In Somewhere Else
- The famous 'Fosters Naval Academy' later known as Stubbington House School was believed to be the oldest prep school in England. There were no less than SIX old boys who were awarded the Victoria Cross. It was also the former school of Scott of the Antarctic - Robert Falcon Scott, and the Cunnungham brothers who were first and second Sea Lords at the Admiralty.
It was used as a naval base during the war and finally moved to Ascot in 1962 only to be closed down shortly afterwards.
I knew the last Foster to own it, a Lady Foster, as I was a pupil there at the time when it closed.
It was a pretty tough establishment and I remember being caned on five different occasions. The first time this happened I was just eight years old.
My father was Mr Corby of the trouser press company of the same name and I became well known as rock 'n roll star in the USA in the 1970's after forming a band called The Babys. I was the founder/leader/ of this band and played guitar and keyboards in it.
I hope this email has added to your knowledge of this amazing old school. (BTW, the telephone number of the school was Stubbington 1 when I was there - 1959-1962).
- Crofton seconary school- the place where dreams are made...all thanks to one legendary man...Mr Burton. God Bless that man.
- I would love to see maps and pictures. I moved to Canada in 66, but still think of Stubbington as home. I would love to here what ever happen to Hallett's farm and hear from anyone that lived around Hallett's Close in the 60's

- if you want to go camping, go to the hill head sailing club and follow the road to the holiday homes by the haven.follow the road through the site which is blocked by the gate and follow the path on top of the cliffs. when you get to the point where the path goes down to the beach and there is a house in front of you, carry on going. find the path on the other side and carry on going until there is a brick hut on top of the cliff. pitch your tent here. it gets very windy but its fun trying to start the campfire.
- Stubbington is known locally as Stub, the village and the vill.
