- the new monkey is the worst place ever opened i think it should be closed down for good its full of charvas getting 'cowied'off their faces dont go near unless you want to die(like the young lad that was found slumped outside) and not one of the so called bouncers even noticed and the management was not bothered he was outside so it wasnt the clubs problem. the people that go there are from all over the north east to be honest i cant see the attraction in paying 15 quid in and then spending 5 quid per 'cowie' the crowd that go there need to wake up and realise they can die from these drugs any mothers reading this dont let you child out of yoursight on saturday nights after 11pm
- the guide post in ryhope is canny - used to be a proper dive, with holes in the ceiling and according to rumour, the place had been condemned...but it's been done out since then and is easily the smartest looking pub in ryhope. the ivy house on the edge of the town centre is good too - went shite for a while when it started serving wine and cocktails, but it has started to recover. it is a student pub, so it's probably one of the most cosmopolitan pubs in sunderland - has a good DJ on on wednesday nights as well. the borough is good as well - has a good selection of punk on the jukie
- pure!!!
The Ashbrooke criket club.
- THE BEST PUB TO BE IN HAS GOT TO BE BROGANS, FANTASTIC ATMOSPHERE ON A FRIDAY AND SATURDAY NIGHT, FRIENDLY STAFF, FANTASTIC DJ. ALL MODERN INSIDE. THEN AFTER YOU CAN GO UPSTAIRS TO PRIVILEGE NIGHTCLUB (RUN BY SAME PEOPLE, ALSO HAS SAME STAFF) BROGANS IS EXCELLENT AND IS AIMED FROM 18'S TO 40+.
- The town centre is quite a good spot, however choose your route wisely such as Chase, Luma, TTONIC, Berlins, Brogans, etc
- Upstairs in the Borough on thurs, Fri and Sat runs 'Paint it Black' a free-for-all dj set up (though it's more organised than that!). tends to play a mix of indie stuff - slightly less known bands but all good. the Ivy House. The White Room. and Bar Pure.
- The Lambton Worm, Cheap and always packed on a weekend no music but fantastic value 4 money!!! Luma is ok Ivy House has a studenty feel 2 is cheapa and attracts a gud crowd, berlins is gud esp on tues buskers nite
- There is loads of fab pubs to choose from. My fave was Chase and Luma. I also really liked Beach nightclub it was a really good laugh in there.
- Best pubs are defo Chase, Luma, Vision, Bud Bugalows, Ttonic and the Lambton Worm
- Too many to mention now. People still tend to follow the usual route tho, baroque, SR1, brogans.. etc albeit a bit later cos we have a few others to attend before we get to these (varsity, bud big's).
as for bud big's - how emotionless are those dancers? love their jobs!!!
- THE IVY - Timeless!!! The Borough - Last of the old style pubs standing. Great live bands on
- the doxford does a nice dinner on a sunday
- Hundreds!!! AND VERY CHEAP!!!! on average £1.50 a pint.
- the robbie burns ha it has to be the worst pub i have ever been to it has what you call a freshfaced crowd every weekend and the decor is one to be seen
- Stay away, get the Metro to Newcastle or the bus to Chester le Street & Durham.
- The Ivy House most nights makes for a good atmosphere.
- All full of ugly, foul smelling, fetid tracksuit wearing, loudmouthed ignoorant charvers. Shame, there used to be many nice ones.
- Luma, Pure, Chase, Bar me, Wetherspoons, The lambtom worm
- there is the trvalers rest but it is full of old poeple and plenty of pissheads
- trust me u dont wana go to pubs in sunderland if ur a skater go to PZAZZ instead
- The Black Bull, High Street, opposite the empire. Great choice of drinks has got to be the place to be. Very crowded from Thursday night on. Got a pool table and Big screen TV. Shows all the matches. Good place for students. Try a fishbowl drink.... mega!!!
- Depends on what you are looking for. A fight will always be on the cards at toddy's in redhouse and also a raid if your lucky. The shipwrights further down is well dodgy enter with police escort only.
- The royalty now its been done out is ok! Chesters is good. Railway tavern for th hardcore locals!
- Start at idols and then just follow the nearest piss hed!
- The best pub by far is BAROQUE - beautiful staff and fantastically decorated pub.
- Barouque is rocking, bar me is good for a giggle watch out for stalker Steve behind the bar!
- Donkins silksworth, the charltons
- the times inn near the river under queen alexandra bridge
- The pubs are all manky so just hit the clubs!
- IDOLS RULES
- The Ivy house is definitely the best place to go.
Look out for a gentleman called 'Man and Boy' who normally sits at the bar with his legendary walking stick.
keep away from the ivy on matchdays though as it is often the target of Geordie hate mobs. Particularly when Newcastle United are in town
- The Ivy House, reputation as a student pub. Its not! There's a pure mix of locals (of all ages) and some student types. The pub itself has three unseen areas. The students in the raised, dingy corner, the local drinkers in the middle and, finally, the local hard cases round the pool table. Its the best pub in the town and is definately a mackem stronghold.
- On tuesday when their is no a lot on down the town the best place we have found to go is liberty;s the satff are mad and alot of the people who get in are even worse. But it is cheap and very chilled so i suggest that if your are at a loses end on tuesdays gey your self down.
- gillespies on St. thomas street has to be the best pub in sunderland
- Liberty's puts on a great metal/alternative night on a tuesday. Baroque is the nicest pub in the world and its next door to the Transporter which is also a good pub. And £1 for a pint of Heineken with an NUS card is the Bull is always nice!
- Ivy House - good booze, reduced prices Mon - Thurs night after 8,
match days specials, top staff, top regulars (I'm one), good mix of people,
quiz night with DJ as well, live bands, footy on the TV, absolute must for
SAFC lovers and NUFC haters.
- Ivy House is good
- Vist the Borough - Park lane - the are serving "Double maxim" again - the only true North east Brown Ale and the original - if you are not from the north east, do not be fobbed off with newcastle brown - this is the stuff the north east exports, we keep the good stuff for ourselves.
Fitzgeralds - older crowd - slpit in two - one side trendy, the other Real Ale - both mix well.
- The Ivy House is a good starting point for a night out, if you can find it.
- The Pilgrim in Fawcett Street is really cheap compared to some places
- thorney close variety club, yea right if ya looking for slappers and dicks loads of fights makes bosnia seem quite
- Laings is great to watch the footie as it has plenty of screens. Also try Chaplins
as this is OK for watching footie and a decent pint.
- Huxters, The Borough, Laings, Chaplins, The Ivy House, Mr Blue, Fizgeralds, Baroque, Transporter, McCanns, Masters, Dun Cow, Black Bull, Londonderry, Flairs, Brogans, Idols, Lazi Pig, Boulevard, Bar Mondo, Vestry, Pilgrim, William Jamesons, Yates, Funky Town.
- Theres a new one around the corner from Idols called Brogans. Quite new and excellent at night. Always got the matches on and plenty of dance music. They have cocktail barmen at the back too.
- Huxters & Brogans are both great places to go, Brogans can get a bit crowded on a Saturday night though. WJ's is an OK place to go for a quiet cheap drink but you sometimes get dodgy looks off the old people!
- Royalty, Wearmouth Bar (Student Union), Ivy House
- To many to mention
- Marlows (Homeside) The Vestuary Digby's
- Student central (well for the youthful drinkers at least!!!) is The Ivy House.
- A typical pub crawl around Sunderland would go something like this... Start at the Borough for a few pints of Labbats, on to the Londonderry for a bottle of Newcastle Brown Ale and put 50p in the juke box. Next stop, the Museum Vaults and then on to Boulivard and Gillespies to oggle the pretty young student girlies and finish the night off throwing your guts up in Chambers. I nearly forgot: the chinese near the Borough serves beautiful traditional North East food!
- lots of good ones although most in city centre are bars really, check out new one Barque
- salt grass, Fitzgeralds
- The Transporter is a top pub with a good atmosphere.
- New additions of Huxters (mainstream and nice) and Baroqu
