I stumbled on this site and my memory was jogged by the toy shop on the main road in Swinton - wow! lol... dark and tiny and packed full of treasures! especially airfix models and plastic soldiers and canons that fired match sticks (I have a brother! ) I too remember the barbers on the corner, that funny chap who used to make strange noises to amuse the children whilst they had a hair cut - I pu t my foot in it once as I accompanied my dad, I told that old chap "my mother thinks you are stupid" Dad never took me there again, cant imagine why. Hello anyone that remembers me. My name is Stuart Harrod - I lived at 53 Highcliffe Drive until I was 9 (1979)and went to Swinton Bridge Primary School. I was good friends with Alan Clarke on my street who was sadly killed on his mortorbike in the mid-eighties. It is a long time ago, but I remember other people on Highcliffe Drive, such as Dianne Green and Paul?? who lived at 55. I was good friend s with Chris Dransfield who lived at the Towpath pub and Wayne Edwards/Green. The other names I remember are Michelle Sherrat and Ashley Dickson. There are so many other faces I remember from the are but unfortunately not names.I moved around a lot while I was growing up, but my life in Swinton are some of my earliest memories, so as I get older I find myself thinking of it more and more.
