- Many new cafes opening and closing in Tavy, best value for money and consistently excellant range of food, on the moors Roborough down on the way to plymouth called the Dartmoor Diner. Outside as well as in loads of parking.
- The Chineese take away on West Street. Jack and Jill's fish and chips.
- Jack and Jill's (up the hill) is the best fish and chip shop - restaurant and takeaway - for miles.
- Tavistock has plenty of take-aways and restaurants, many open evenings and lunchtime too.
As far as Chinese take-away goes, there's Chung-Ying and the Cantonese Kitchen. The Birds Nest is a take-away too, and also has an excellent restaurant that opens for lunch and evening meals.
There are two Indian take-away/restaurants both on a main street and close to each other; the Ganges and Thariks.
For English food restaurants there's the famous Jack and Jills, an award-winning fish and chip restaurant and take-away. For fish and chips, there's also Kelly's in the town centre. Monterey Jacks does good steaks, burgers, mexican and pasta dishes, all reasonably priced. The Pannier Market Cafe does good roast dinners, cottage pies, apple crumble etc. A haunt of the OAPs usually. Poppies and The Coffee Mill are well established cafe/restaurants as well as Steps at the other end of town. For those who prefer(or can afford)a cordon bleu menu (or posh, for those of you, like me who can just about say 'hello' in French) then try The Bedford hotel or Browns hotel. They both have independent restaurants. And, if you just want something quick, cheap, and relatively tasty, there's always the drive thru McDonalds (which is a lot faster now than it was when it first opened) or Harley's Pizza, who will deliver pizza too.
- Bill the Bakers has gone - He retired and QUERTY Computers took over premises.
- Browns Hotel Wine Bar and Brasserie in west street- the finest food , wine and champagne, trendy and stylish surroundings with sunny courtyard.
- best fish & chip shop is jack & jills theres 1 at the top and bottom of town. best restaurant would b the cornish arms.
- Jack and Jill's fish and chip restaurant and take-away: the best in the west!
The Bird's Nest: top quality chinese restaurant and take-away
- There is a Kebab house which is on a side street from West Street, it does gorgeous Kebabs and there is Take-away Pizza.
- Monterrey Jacks is cheap and usually very good for BBQ chicken or ribs. The Birds Nest is an excellent Chinese Restaurant, though the new Cantonese Kitchen rivals it for take-away. Christophers and Steps are both excellent restaurants, and very friendly. All the Indian's are pretty decent too.The MacDonalds in Tavistock is better than average, but there is often slow service. Jack & Jills on West Street is a top-rated fish & chip shop. Grub-up is the truckers favourite. No take-away pizza or KFC. Best bakery / cake shop by a long way is Bill The Baker. The excellent Dartmoor Inn at Lydford, the historic Bedford Hotel in the town square, and the award-winning Manor House Hotel at Moretonhampstead are amongst the best of the more expensive restaurants in the region. Cellars Bistro at Okehampton is also very good indeed.
- Chung ying has the tastiest chineese around
- Excellent delicatessen at top end of high street towards Mary Tavy - does all sorts of stuff. And it's huge.
