- Unlikly to get a parking ticket as there is no traffic warden
- New building developments have really brought a range of people to tavi.
- The United Reformed Church in Russell Street Tavistock is a welcoming community. We meet on Sundays at 10.30 for worship which is relevant, reverent and joyful. There is a good mix of traditional and contemporary hyms and worship songs. After the service we serve tea and coffee. 'All are welcome' - is our theme. Our aim is 'To Know, Show and Grow in the love of Jesus Christ.'
- I detest the official parking of vehicles either side of exits onto the main road (often too large to see around) preventing safely entering said main road until you are virtually in the line of moving traffic.
I detest the roundabout at the junction of Whitchurch Road and Dolvin Road which has very restricted views of oncoming traffic when you exit Dolvin Road. I detest the miniscule roundabout at the junction of Dolvin Road Bridge and Mount Road, that causes me to bang my tyres against the curb each day when I do the return journey back to the town after dropping a child off at St. Rumons school. There is no alternative to a complete circle around it, other than adding an extra half mile and 1/2 hour onto my journey each day, in a bumper-to-bumper queue of traffic, before I can return down Dolvin Road.
- you could always do a catergory where people could say if they thought their city had a good lookin bunch of men and women or an ugly bunch!!!lol
- on the sustrans coast to coast cycle route
canal walk (passes birthplace of Sir Francis Drake)
old buildings related to Tavistock Abbey and the Duke of Bedford
- Tavistock is the capital of Dartmoor and West Devon. It is surrounded by beautiful and dramatic countryside. Cox Tor, Brentor Church, and Lydford Gorge are musts.
The town has around 10,000 residents, plus year round tourists, especially a lot from the Netherlands and Germany. It is booming, with a thriving economy and as a desirable place to live.
Best time of the year is May, when the lanes are covered in flowers. Goose Fair, the second Wednesday in October is great if you like tacky "Del Boy" type stalls and fairground rides. Dickensian Evening in December is really great - a brilliant Christmas atmosphere, and lots of free mince pies and free wine all round!
- The swimming pool has an intriguing "outside" loop, which allows you to freeze your knackers off on a cold winters day before returning to the safety of the indoors..
