To Whom It May Concern,
I am researching my family history and have discovered great-great-great-great grandparents came from the North Knapdale/Kintyre area, possibly around Tayvallich. They were Malcolm Blue (born 1700 North Knapdale, died 1766 Longstreet Settlement, Cumberland Co. North Carolina, USA) and Sarah (Mary/Marion) Smith (born 1710 Kintyre, died 1812 Longstreet Settlement, Cumberla... more >>

Concerning the current tenant farmer of Barahormaid by Frank Sandwell (Member 10012561) on 27-May-2000
To whom it may concern:

As a young boy, I used to camp on Barrahormaid farm for two weeks in the summer throughout the 1960s when William and Mary Boyd occupied the farm. I traveled up with my family from Suffolk, England. I know the farm was taken over by Hardy and Alan Telfer in the 1970s when they retired and I am just wondering if they are still farming Barrahormaid and the adjacent farm o... more >>

Barahormaid farm & Kilmory-Ross farm,North Knapdale by jean gillies-zimmer (Member 10009292) on 19-Mar-2000
I am planning on going to Scotland a year from this May, and would like to take in the area where my Duncan Graham - Sarah Campbell were married & their family was born.I would like specific directions to these farms; also is there a cemetery in the area, and if so - is it indexed? Any information on the area would be greatly appreciated. Thank-you for your time. JGZ.

Jean, Did you make that trip to Tayvallich last year? You might be interested to know that the 17th century house your ancestors lived in is still standing and in use although not occupied.

A new farm house was built about 1910 and the tenant farmer from 1941 to 1961 was, co-incidently, a Peter Gillies. Peter, I think, came from North Ardbeg which is about half a mile away. After hi... more >>

    Hi all,

I lived at Kilmory-Ross from 1964 - 1967, when my family emigrated to Canada. The Boyds ran it then. I remember the Telfers ... they're still there?! I went to see Kilmory-Ross in 1981 & was saddened to see it in ruin, but I hear it has been better treated lately. I remember the place well from my early childhood.

Hello by Rick Baxter (Member 10007158) on 29-Jan-2000
My name is Rick Baxter and I have ancestors that lived in Tayvallich. I was wondering if someone could check out the local cemeteries to see if there are any Baxter's buried there. The dates will probably be around the late 1700's-early 1800's. Looking for William, Flora, Alex, Roger, Duncan, or any other Baxter's. I appreciate all you can do for me. Thanks! (b64r@aol.com)

in sailing, jetskiing, drinking, having a barbacue etc etc! So why not come along for the millenium
festiveties!!!!
See you

    Dear Rod Barr:

I'd sure like to come visit Tayvallich as I haven't been there for nearly thirty years. I'm sure it's changed quite a bit in that time -- I don't remember the village having a pub back then, just a gas station and a small grocery store by the water. It sounds as though the nightlife has picked up too. The only nightlife in the 1960s were the sheep and a few noisy crows!

Hi: We are planning on spending a day in the area of Tayvallich, this spring - is there a B & B or hotel lodgeing of any kind in the area? My Duncan Graham/Sarah (d/oJames) Campbell ancestors came from Barrahormaid & Kilmory Ross farms in the 1840's to Can.So would like to travel the area from whence they came and if there is a cemetery in the area, to see it also. Any help would greatly appreciated.
