- Usually the term 'came from' refers to the place where a person was born or at least was brought up. Tryphena Sparks was born and brought up in Puddletown Nr.Dorchester. Thomas Hardy and Tryphena were sweethearts and it is thought that they were engaged to be married until the time when Hardy met his first wife, Emma, in Boscastle.
