Pubs in Ullapool, Highland*

The place to go for a lazy afternoon, pub quiz or last call

You can tell us more about Ullapool.

Pubs
  • The Arch Inn just goes from strength to strength. Great atmosphere, incredibly friendly and the food is great. The Caledonian is still serving the best food in Ullapool though.
  • Ferry Boat Inn seems to be in the hands of a fat loony from Northern England. Served us a pint, which I complained was stale. "It shouldn't be. I put a new barrel on this morning" yells this fatty on the punters' side of the bar, but was some kind of boss. Nobody had said it should be stale. Another 2 pints of a different real ale we bought later had turned to vinegar, so we compained again. He blew his top! Said we shouldn't drink real ale. I told him to drink it and see what it was like. He gulped down a whole pint of vinegary beer in seconds, to prove we were wrong. Then he disappeared to the back shop sharpish. They replaced the pints with the kind that had not gone bad, to be fair, but it did nothing for the atmosphere. I don't travel to Ullapool for impudence. There's a pub business going to fail.
  • Arch bar at the Arch Inn is great, seems to be the only place with a pool table and has a massive screen and big TV for the footie! Cheap drink too!
  • my god, what a transformation at the caledonian! it's gone from a bit on the rough side to the best place in ullapool. it's been completely renovated and revamped. the food is superb and i would advise anyone thinking of eating there to book as they were queing out of the door when we were there.
  • Ullapool would have to be the best place for a pub crawl! Start at the Argyle Lounge Bar, following through into the Public Bar, where you may come upon a game of darts. Cross down to the FBI (there's an alleyway between Argyll St and Shore St) Check out all the money on the wall! - Thats if you dont get confused by the mirrors. Head down the Shore St, past the Seaforth and proceed into the newly built, but old established Arch Inn for a quiet game of Pool, or to place a bet on (get there well before your race however!) Up the hill from the Arch is the Ceilidh Place, which would be the best place for an Irish/Scottish Coffee, as it is very relaxed. Turn left as you head out of the Ceilidh Place towards the Caley Bar - theres a loud juke box, a pool table, and occasionally a Permanent Manager! (Locals would know what I'm on about!) Then down the hill to round off the evening with a good old knees up in the recently re-decorated Seaforth - In the summer it is the party spot inside, or you can enjoy a relatively quiet drink outside on the tables! So there you go! You could hike it up to the Morefield if you are feeling fit - But you may like to start there by having a great dinner before your crawl!
  • Ferry Boat Inn - sit and watch the seals and glory in the view up Loch Broom. The seals are in the loch by the way, not in the pub. Just thought I'd clarify that for all you skateboarders out there - oh, sorry, your not old enough to get into pubs. Tra la la, c'est la vie.
  • FBI, Seaforth, Ceilidh Place
  • Easily the friendliest atmosphere at the Ferryboat Inn. They don't mind the English, so long as they behave themselves!
  • Lots of them! Very tourist filled in summer. For local drinking spots follow the sounds of drunken brawls, smoke hazes and out of tune singing.
