The Stuff We Can't Fit In Somewhere Else
- Accommodation in Ullapool. Woodlands B & B. Our website at
show not only what we offer at Woodlands B & B (A warm welcome + Homebaked bread, Home made Jams and Marmalade - we picked the oranges ourselves in Seville ! - and even homemade oak smoked kippers and salmon. Fresh sandwiches with a huge range of fillings made to order ) but also has loads of information and photos of the village and its amenities, and what to do and see in the area. These pages would add enormously to your Ullapool info.
- Woodlands B & B - We've now added home smoked salmon to our breakfast menu !
- One of those musical chapter endings in the film 'Breaking The Waves' shows Ullapool: a static shot from the air looking along the loch towards the sunset with 'Child In Time' by Deep Purple playing. It's a great film.
- Its just ace, ok?
- I'm not sure what sort of info will be of interest for this page, but I have a vivid remembrance of something I observed in Ullapool a few years ago. There was a Russian (still USSR back then) trawler in port -- apparently this place is a true international port on a very workmanlike level (i.e., no multinational conglomerates, but just traditional trading routes involving fishing and stuff like that, probably smuggling on a human scale too like Vodka being traded for Scotch on a black market level).
Some Russian crewmen were either coming ashore or trying to get back to their ship in this ridiculous pink lifeboat-type thing, obviously designed for rough seas since it was totally covered over with a metal turtle shell and only had a small space at the back where there was an open deck. The boat was belching a horrible black smoke from its (ineffective) engine that you could smell all over the harbor. The boat kept spinning in circles so the whole crew was crowded into the small cockpit at the back with long oars, poking at the McBraine's ferry that was in the process of heading off to the Outer Hebrides, to avoid a collision. Don't understand Russian, but recognize obscenities in any language, and they were all royally drunk. Wish I could find a pub where they could have gotten that way, but didn't find such a place in Ullapool that was not out of the ordinary... - Excellent roads for motorbikes (and hillsides). Serious party heads welcome.
