  • I can't believe the number of people who reckon Warrington has the biggest number of scallies. I was born in Warrington and lived there until I was 18. (in Orford). I have since lived and worked in Manchester (Moss Side), Nottingham, and London (Peckham, Harlesden and Tooting). Trust me there are plenty of places with scallies. If you all hate the place so much...get off your fat arses and move somewhere alse. I love Warrington and am very proud of my roots.Up the WIRE !
  • an industrial town without industry. thriving on its eileen bilton image of the early eighties. go ther get pissed check out the mid winter clothing for the friday night party girls.lard and minishirts. people are mainly friendly and chatty

  • The river mersey runs almost through town centre, has good fishing, even salmon have been spotted.
  • Warrington is ok but after a while it gets a bit shitty :(
  • i wish the moshers would stop hanging around the fountain, they just look proper dirty. and this is coming from a dirty punk.
  • Priestley Sixth Form College is most definately the best further education establishment, and I've heard now it has some really cool cafes and a new gym and stuff... If only I could do A-levels all over again.
  • Ickle punk/skater kids are crowding round Penketh High School. Umm, niiice. Go there, get drunk, have a nice time :D
  • Huge range of scallies, but some pretty good moshers/goths/other as well. No specific place they hang out so can never find em.
  • LASERQUEST WARRINGTON: www.laserquestwarrington.co.uk
  • It's a town called Warrington, in Cheshire, stop - gap in between Manchester and Liverpool, and er, erm, erm ,erm..........that's it
  • i have got one hairy mofo of an ass
  • The Penketh & Sankey Sports and Social Club is a very nice place to meet friends and has a FREE 100 seat FUNCTION ROOM. Call 01925 722523/482448 or go to http://members.lycos.co.uk/psssc/
  • Cockhedge Centre, Golden Square - what are the (toilet obsessed?) town planners trying to get at here?
  • STAR SAILOR COME FROM WARRINGTON...
  • Golden Gates Warrington Town Hall, legend has it to keep on the jubilee theme that Queen Victoria came to visit the town of Warrington, the Golden Gates had been erected to celebrate her golden jubilee and are still very ornate and very much a tourist attraction, however an oversight on behalf of the workmen who erected the gates left the statue of Oliver Cromwell in front of the gates, needless to say Her majesty, who wasn't amused turned tail and headed back to Bank Quay station, thus never setting foot in Warrington..
  • the cruise at Birchwood every monday night. PHATT CARS WITH LOUD SYSTEMS!
  • Warrington is full of Mancs and is stinks of Lever soap products. A pretty shit combination however you look at it.
  • what is goin on with those skittles at all? what a waste of tax payers money!
  • In the Stuff We Can't fit in somewhere else it lists two radio stations and both having restrictive service licences, this has now altered. Radio Warrington 106.2 run by the college doesn't seem to be in existence anymore, Wire FM however (formerly WFMR or Warringtons Festival of Music Radio - now you know what it stood for!) now has a full broadcasting licence on 107.2 FM/VHF and is based at Longford Business Park on Long Lane (Ye olde William Beaumont High School site). Also at http://www.live365.com/stations/285200 there is WFNR - Warrington's Favourite Net Radio which plays all sorts of music 24/7 (this station is not connected to WFMR in any way) PUBLIC TRANSPORT - In Warrington we have two public transport operators, Warrington Borough Transport and Arriva. A few years ago Arriva (then North Western) introduced Warrington Goldlines to many parts of Warrington as a rival for WBT. This started a bus war with WBT introducing services on Arriva's services and making up loads of rubbish about Arriva (if they get in the bus fares will go up and the frequency of the services will go down and there will be more older buses being used). Whilst this bus war went on for 2 years Warrington had probably the best public transport in the UK. During this time I trusted Arriva and didn't believe any of the rubbish that WBT came out with (because Arriva had really nice buses and cheap transport and decent buses and timetables) so I used Arriva whenever I could. However WBT got an agreement from Arriva that if WBT got off Arriva's patch then Arriva would get off WBT's patch and they also offered the Woolston area to Arriva. Since then Arriva mainly serve the Woolston area and the long distance buses (like Trafford Centre, Liverpool, Wigan) and WBT run the rest. The Woolston area now has very good public transport with frequent bus services running until late at night (yes WBT did lie!), however the rest of Warrington, run by WBT, has seen a decline in service, constantly late buses and the fares keep rising. This year is WBT's centenary and there are rumours that WBT might be sold off to another bus firm this year, if they are hopefully the bus service will improve. With WBT now most WBT bus services finish or are very much reduced after 6pm (Arriva's is about 8pm), WBT after 6pm - hourly to and from Bewsey (about 5mins walk), Sankey (about 10 mins walk), Penketh (about 15 mins walk), Westbrook (about 10 mins walk) - Arriva after 6pm - half-hourly to and from Padgate (15 mins walk), Woolston (20 mins walk), Orford (5 mins walk) and hourly to Liverpool (about 2 hours walk!) Taxi services - Warringtons main taxi service is Abba on 01925 414444, these are the cheapest at £1 (£1.20 for first mile) a mile, then theres Crown 01925 234567 a bit dearer at £1.40 for first mile, and theres also some others that are a lot dearer on 01925 411111 (Benco) and 413333 (Harry's). Be warned though if you need a taxi between 6 and 7pm book early as this is when the buses go to reduced services so most have an hour waiting list at that time.
  • rob the scouse bartender at "time out"between 93/94 woz the sexxxxiest barman in warrington
  • o yeah. that guy in appleton take your helicopters and your ferrari's and shove them up your arse. cos im loaded too :)
  • I would like to to propose a plan to the thousands of Warringtonians from, shall we say, the sh*t and scummy parts of the Wire(You know who you are ie Orford, Latchford, Howley, Bewsey etc etc I apologise if I have missed the other sh*te places out) I want to be able to shop and have a night out without being surrounded by you low life scum so what I suggest is that I, and other quality people, go out Friday and Saturday and you scumbags have Thursday night to youselves so you can piss your giros up the wall together. You may also go into town during week days when the rest of us are working.
  • Comments involving the destruction of the Showboat (soon to close!! SHOCK) and others although humerous paint a bad picture of Warrington and lets be honest, it isn't that bad! It has its moments though. :)
  • Unfortunately I work in Warrington which must boast the highest amount of scallies in the country. If you get high from the smell of soap powder, this is the place to be. Apart from that there is nothing else to say apart from the busy flow of traffic trying to leave the place.
  • All you whingers who say Warrington is a dump are all peasants anyway. I live in the very affluent area af Appleton. How do you thing I feel even having to drive down the road past all you peasants. You all make me sick. I hate you all and until you get yourselves some serious money f**k off, get a job, get a life and stop pissing the rich off.
  • I beg all skate boarders to move to Warrington and take over the town.
  • I live in a wee village called Warrington, Otago. We are 20 minutes north of Dunedin, New Zealand. We don't have any shops, we do have a lovely beach which is frequented by dolphins in the summer. We have a surf club which does quite well, a school of approximately 50 children and not a lot else! We have had the odd visitor from Warrington, England over the last couple of years.
  • Warrington Borough Council announce that, for reasons best known to themselves, they are going to close a perfectly good primary school. Labour Councillors, who couldn't be bothered to look at the real reasons, contented themselves with just looking at figures. I expect that, when they got into politics, this was just what they did it for. What do you think?
  • The Sankey Brook - surely that was the Stinking Brook to everyone who passed by it.
  • Why make it a City??? I cannot see the logic in that , the place needs making smaller not bigger.
  • The Sankey Brook Navigation, more commonly known as 'The Sankey Canal' - was Enlands first modern canal, with the first section opening in 1757. The entire canal was finished in 1761. The second of England's Canals, the Bridgewater, opened in Warrington shortly afterwards. The SCARS Society is dedicated to the Sankey's restoration after years of neglect. Home of band ditch - unsigned but still selling their EP.
  • It's like the stereotypical personification of Germany without the sporting prowess
  • Burtonwood really has a wealth of history and was mentioned in the doomesday book, the pubs and clubs are worth checking out at the weekends, but not before 9.00pm unless you want a meal beforehand, forget them before Thur/Fri you'd be better off taking up origami for kicks !
  • Burtonwood (about three miles down the road) was a principal USAF base during WWII. The main runway, once the longest in the world, now forms part of the M62. There is still a military presence there (stores).
  • Warrington is the resting place of George Formby. They have regular George Formby Society meetings there every month.
  • Sport - The lack of decent football teams (Warrington Town - Ha!) is more than compensated for by the presence of the mighty "Wire" - Warrington Rugby League Football Club. If any of you football or rugby union fans out there want to check out a real man's sport where tackles really do hurt, go along and watch a game.
  • Cinema - UCI 10 screen multiplex at Westbrook Centre is superb. Check out the Nachos with cheese with loads of raw pickled chillies on top.
  • Did you know:
    • The steeple on St Elphins, Warrington's parish church is the third tallest steeple in Britain (after Salisbury and Norwich Cathedrals) and is the highest on any non-Cathedral church.
    • The Golden Town Hall Gates were designed for Buckingham Palace but were rejected as they were thought too fancy.
    • The Gates were not rejected because they were too fancy. When they were shown to Queen Victoria there was a statue of Cromwell behind them and having been responsible for the early demise of one of her predecessors she had a profound dislike of old Oliver and rejected the gates on those grounds. Cromwell's statue at Bridge Foot (if it is still there) was one of very few in England.
    • Warrington's people are very cosmopolitan.
      1. A third of them are scousers.
      2. A third are Mancs, and
      3. The other third can't decide whether or not they come from Lancashire or Cheshire.
    • Mr Smiths is a cool place to go and is more commonly known as Smiths. It is the best place in the world to live, and I am not a scouser or a manc, and I don't come from Lancashire, I am proud to be from Cheshire, bye!!!!
    • Doesn't it make anyone else nervous that the nuclear facility near Birchwood in Warrington is run by students from Manchester and Liverpool Universities?
    • Warrington has two part time radio stations
      • WIRE FM 105.2 (Previously WFMR) are the main pretenders for the up coming Cheshire licence. A bit flakey round the edges but basically OK - just like your regular commercial station.
      • RADIO WARRINGTON 106.2 Utterley, utterley, sad. Sad, sad, sad. If you want to hear students interviewing your binman - tune in. Operated by Warrington Collegiate Institute
      • Local Newspapers
        • THE WARRINGTON GUARDIAN : Every Friday. Actually not too bad, a bit tabloid, but then aren't they all? About as good as you get for a town sized paper.
        • THE MIDWEEK GUARDIAN : Midweek freebie version of above. Ads and dogend fillers that wouldn't cut it in the Friday version.
        • THE MERCURY : Freebie Rag and really crap.
        • Best thing about Warrington: its proximity to Manchester. Worst thing about Warrington: Smith's, Smith's clientele, Smith's bouncers, etc etc etc. Not only is Warrington very very grim indeed, it has no decent shops, or clubs, a shitty out of town cinema with seats designed to make you squirm and require extensive spinal operations in later life, in fact just talking about my beloved home town is making me feel quite ill, 'scuse me while I throw up.
        • I think the best thing about Warrington is L.A Bowl where you can bowl in pitch black or take your chances in the Lazer Quest. The worst thing are the tacky buses it's about time we got new ones lads!
        • Warrington is a bit of a dum and there has never been anything good to come out of there (Apart from Chris Evans)
