Cringing Cult of Celebrity
- Micky Newman
- No mention made of Cyril Turner, Roy Kilner, Johnny Wardle Yorkshiremen when you had to be to play for Yorkshire CCC. Could mention at Grammar School Sir Charles Curran one time chairman of BBC and the late Baron Hardy of Wath more than one time MP and author of book on badgers. Should we forget the likes of John Vaughan shot down toward the end of WWII? The poet and prolific hymn writer cf. Ancient & Modern: James Montgomery lived in Wath which he referred to as a "pretty Yorkshire village" - as did the parson W Keble Martin author of that beautifully illustrated book 'The Flora of Britain in Colour'. Is the best on offer now obscurely named rockers?
- Jonny Wardle. supremely talented left arm spinner capable of bowling in orthodox and unorthodox manner. Bowling em out for yorks and england in the 50s. Then he got sacked
- William Hague, I think he did something with politics, or something, went to Wath Comp
- William Hague - Save the Pound! Lucy Clarkson lived on cemetry road, her family still do.
- My brother Rob Dawber, who wrote the Script of 'The Navigators' a film by Ken Loach (of Kes fame), premiered in 2002. Rob won a BAFTA - the first in Wath?, the first in South Yorks???.
A great bloke who died in Feb 2001 (before his film was screened), went to Wath (Grammer) Comp. If you want to know more email me! - I'd be proud to tell you more.
Wath's a fine town!
Pete
- Billy Metcalf, he used to scare kids silly by pretending to pinch their nose!
- that bloke who was so ashamed of himself (and so he should be with that hair cut!) william hague
- Well there's me of course. The there's that git william hague and that tomb raider lass.
- Princess Di once visited Wath. I think she hated it.
- Lucy Clarkson once of Flintway wath, appeared in the airwaves advert, and is the new Lara Croft from the Tomb Raider Films.
- Lucy Clarksons' modelling career appears to be taking off...she's in the 'airwaves' advert and was in the paper yeaterday on a date with one of 5ive!
- Gilbert Gathering is the most famous man from Wath as many will testify. He may be dead but his ledgend lives on.
- Gluey Wakka is a famous man, I heard he was officially the most arrested man in Britain!
- ME, MYSELF AND I

Mike Harding (what a boy) used to entertain us regularly when the Rugby club really was the place to go, along with Mike Elliott...Remember the 'Wath-On Dearne Blues'??
- evo will be a famous son of wath one day either as a politician or rock star-who nose daz ben and moody will too theyve got it in them (thats all whas in daz) possibly guin-good boxer- oh evo might be a famous pillok too
- Toby Foster who has been on The Stand Up Show on BBC 1 a couple of times, and does the warm ups for The National Lottery show every Wednesday went to WathComp. He's in a new show on channel 4 in the new year. His brother Matthew was head boy at Wath.
- APRT FROM MYSELF, SORRY CANT HELP ON THAT ONE (ALL BEST PEOPLE IN WORLD LIVE IN OR AROUND WATH, I'D MENTION NAMES BUT THERES TOO MANY) (THERES A FEW NOT SO GREAT PEOPLE ASWELL, THEY KNOW WHO THEY ARE)
- Billy Hage when to Wath Comprehensive.
- Jack Moody will one day be famous. The least said about William "Billy No Mates" Hague, the better!
- William Hague, lets leave it at that.
- MP William Hague came from Wath (unfortunately) and went to Wath Comp. Unusual really cause Wath is a big Labour supporting area.
- No-one very famous ever came from Wath though hopefully me and my friends shall change that.
