Pubs in West Kirby, Merseyside*
The place to go for a lazy afternoon, pub quiz or last call
You can tell us more about West Kirby.
Pubs
- Best food at the Moby Dick, cheapest ale and worst service at Wetherspoons, all th old fogies at the Hilbre court and all the Fresh Faced crowd at Mojo's.
The Black Horse is No More thank god and has been changed in to some over priced shite wine bar.
- went to moby dick today and tried the fish pie ...yum ..its worth a visit just for the smoked haddock
- wetherspoons.no atmosphere, dull full of the worst types of chavs
- ah, of course, my early years were spent in flatties- everyone went ther, but its goin quite cosmo now with Rio, players bar, terraz c, an wetherspoons in both hoylake and west kirby, the firehouse, eskimo, la bodega........all more like bars......... the ringers, moby, used to go the the ridger til we all got barred and the girls stopped workin there, oh, an the black horse on the odd unfortunate occasion
- Can't believe no-one has mentioned the sublime Hilbre on Banks Road. It's like instant time-travel. This superb hostelry, styled after a cold-war nuclear bunker still serves chicken & chips (with peas, mind!) and other traditional 70's fare. Look out for large hair & crimplene trousers. Never tried them myself but I'm told they make your bollocks sweat and creak like new shoes.
- Ring o bells, The Ridger...
- Ring O' Bells, Moby Dick, Dee Hotel, White Lion, Hilbre Court Black Horse, The Ridger (I work there! Come in and say hello!) and there's millions more in the surrounding towns eg. Hoylake, Greasby etc.
- i like beer
- hilbre court, a free funeral with every pint
- SPOONS!! the Weatherspoons and all its cheap ale is the best-good job it replaced the scabby Dee. The worst pub now is the Black Horse that place is in desperate need of refurbishment and new drinkers
- Dee Hotel has been a Wetherspoons for about 2 years. Cheap beer , guest ales but really bad service!
- White Lion has a good mix of folks and is rather cosy within its cave-like intererior. The same CD has been playing there for the past 10 years, but it adds to the charm and character of the place I suppose.
- woo hoo the ringers has lost its position as the most popular den for the fresh faced croud! no longer go there is ur looking for the younger fraternity, but boogy on down to breakers (nr the concourse) for HOT calday birds (7pm onwards, fri and sat night) or the hilbre court (the other end of wekka) to visit the 'alternative crew'- i.e not birds in short pvc skirts and lads with rockports on! normally end up get wasted there n shouting abuse at the quizmaster when he makes 'isnt it past ur bedtime jokes' when we are all 18- of course :) woo hoo wekka rules!
- Dee Hotel is now a Weatherstone's (September 2001)
- Weather spoons has know replaced the old and grimey 'Dee Hotel' and serves really cheap booze, but it takes ages to get served in there, even if you are the only person at the bar they still drift past you as though you are'nt there so buy lots every time you go for a round
Ring o bells is more exspensive but much more cosy
- After the recent take-over of the Dee Hotel by Wetherspoons west kirby has become a lot more lively. Although packed out on fridays and saturdays this newly refurbished venue is a nice place to go for a quiet drink or bite to eat during the week with its ridiculously low prices.
- The Black Horse has the best atmosphere for watching Liverpool on the big screen. Only redeeming feature of the beer is that it's cheap - keg Boddies is about £1.65 a pint. The Ringer is full of kids trying to be grown up, but the meals and decor are OK. The Hilbre and the Moby Dick are more relaxing for anyone who has a job....
- The White Lion is the best pub in the world ever just because its got a constantly looping tape of faded eighties classics always playing (and because Emily doesn't like it)
- The Black Horse in west Kirby is the place where all who are anyone goes, unless your a toff who drinks at the Moby Dick !! Anyone who thinks they can play pool come in and ask for Alex, Bryn or Ioan (yohan) and we will give you a good arse kicking !!!!
- i hear the people who now have the hilbre have put in an offer for the white lion!
- depends on what time of year !!!!! summer cottage loaf the farmers arms good riding distance so when your hiss faced you can rise home :OI
- the dee, the white lion, ringers is full of nobs.
- Cafe Royale is a great hang out spot for shootin some pool with your mates (kim) barmaids very friendly easy to get served. A great starting place then on to the Ringas to finish off the night.
- The black horse is the best place in the world. Freddy the gay bar manager will I.D you for certain if you look under 35.
RRRRRRRoy is quite casual as he has a porno tash! Bryn is the leader of the pool table crew with his sexy bird. Black Ray brings a bit of culture to the place!
Stubbsy will bar you if you disagree about a game of pool or the rules.
Sean is a little scummy piss head at the bar who gets his taxi robbed (as well as the black horses property aswell)
Ann will get her nips out for the lads (and girls).
Lorna was fit (before she got hit by a bus).
The new barman from liverpool smokes bone (so does Bryn).
Basically it is a good pub to have a few beers and get bladdered.
You will without doubt have a monumental night if and when you go.
Ask for a free chinese from the bar!!
Marks out of 10 = 2 (to be fair!!)
- I hear rummers all the time about Weatherspoons taking over the old Dee Hotel anyone with any info out there.
- THE DEE HOTEL west kirby is now the most freindly and most pleasurable pubs in the area to be in with live bands and a new restaurant large screen tv and full size snooker table very clean and atmospheric with excellent freindly staff and management team.
- Ringers is full of a nice crowd , avoid at all costs , White Lion (old mans pub with beer garden) Moby Dick ( okay on some days )
- DEE HOTEL - entertaining to say the least
- Though there are many pubs in West Kirby, the most popular being the Ring 'O Bells, it's usually full of sixth-formers from the local Grammar School - Calday (I hated it when I went there...). So, I preferred a trek into Greasby to the Farmer's Arms (a bit of an oldie pub but nice barmaids) or to Hoylake and the new Weatherspoons.
- Actually, the best pub in the area is The Plasterer's Arms in Hoylake, which has a great atmosphere and a huge selection of malt whiskies.
- Moby Dick is on sandy lane in west kiby
Ring o bells just up the road from moby dick
- The dee- look out for the old mainstays of west kirby- barry kenion, pete daily, frog rosie, etc.
The ringers- legends in the making- bob (chris hagen) and wes drink in here anlong with half of caldy and a few ppl from birkenhead school.
- The Ringas is the best pub in the world, especially Friday nights
- DEE - good
White Lion - Good but rather like being in a wall closet
Hilbre - very old people pub
Black Horse - full of sad people who think they are cool
Moby Dick - alright if you know the people and consume vast amounts a Gin and Tonic
Ring'o'Bells - full of 6th form students all pretending that they are at university!!
- An all time legend and local haunt for teens of the early 90's has sadly been demolished - Flat Foot Sams as it was (later sadly known as the Orange Grove). It will be remembered for some good times like Karaoke on a Wednesday, Sunday drinking and the beer garden that was. Fairwell Flatties.
- I must stick up for the Dee Hotel, for it is my beloved local and it's
bad rep is no longer deserved. pool table, snooker table(soon), darts,
pinball, fruities, and the best gossip this side of the mersey. :)
- We recommend the Moby Dick public house contrary to public belief that it is full of posers. It is always busy - you'll always find a familiar face to talk to. Watch out for Sunday Session drinkers as it can get messy in the summer months - beware of Porkie, Miles and Warren in particular and if you do venture in be sure that they buy you a pint or two!
- After the pub, Friday or Saturday, get down to the CafeBar Royale on the promenade at Coronation Gardens. Good music, good beer and good company supplied by your hosts William and Roger!
- I can't believe you didn't mention the Ring O' Bells THE BEST PUB in all of England!!
- The Ring 'O Bells is worth a try, good food, great atmosphere although if u are over 30 on a Friday night u might feel a bit too old!
- Numerous but the best places are The Blackhorse Inn and The Ridger just ouside the town centre.
- The CO-OP, next to Totteys, is also re-opening as a Wine Bar so it will be a real happening place -YEAH!
- Best Pub : The White Lion. The Ridger and the Black Horse are bollocks.
- There are more pubs worth considering. The Moby Dick in the older part of town is a good meeting place and very popular. The Dee Hotel near the Concourse is to be avoided at all costs. The Black Horse is much improved since it reverted to being a proper local, rather than just as a place where the schoolkids could get served.
- The Moby Dick is the in place to be particularly for a Super Sunday Session, if it's good enough for Branchy, Mcateer, Redknapp and Mcmanaman then its food enough for you (as Dodgy said) but there's also the Lake pub in Hoylake which gets dead busy, watch out for the strippers. There is also talk of a hot new night spot in the centre of Wekka a la Bar Brookie - watch this space!
