- Hey Wirral skaters…
I’m a skater writing from Vancouver, BC, Canada… Seems like this board is full of riders pretty up on what’s going on with the progress of the skateparks in Kirby and Hoylake. Wondering if anything’s been built yet? If the parks are any good? (Apologies if this isn't the venue for questions like this but it seemed appropriate. If not I'd be grateful if someone could send me to the right place.)
I’m in school still and right now I’ve got this project where I have to pitch an idea for a skatepark and since Wirral is getting some parks I thought it’d be a good place to start.
Someone posted at the top of this page that “we're getting a fucking skatepark. just hope they do a good job of it, maybe listen to the local skaters about what they want.“ I can fully relate to this cuz we’ve had many parks built here in Van and no one ever asked us what we wanted.
What I was thinking would be good for Hoylake and Kirby would be a version of something the guys did at Burnside in Portland, Oregon. Basically the city didn’t want to help so they took things into their own hands—they bought the cement, laid rebar, put in the dirt… all on their own, entirely their own design—guerrilla-style skatepark!
What I hope you guys can answer is do you think skaters there would be into participating in a skater-built, skater-run indoor, or at least undercover, park? This is provided that the city and local industry help out with funding and whatnot. I’d love to hear your opinions as locals. Much thanks.
Cheers, Chris

- get a skatepark at safeway carpark
- Leigh road, on the way up to the monument, occasionally has wannabe skaters, the concourse, the steps bu the tennis courts in ashton park.
- Safeway car park, at night that is, generally has cars in it in the daytime for some reason. You could try the prom but watch out for toddlers and dog poo, also don't fall off your board and watch it disappear into the Marine Lake. Otherwise the tennis courts at the girl's grammar school. Or ride down Grammar School Lane if you want to die having fun.
- bowlhead
- The section of the Safeways carpark by the re-cycling bins is handy spot for actual skateboarding, as is the small carpark by Bob Smiths Garage (only later on in the day though, otherwise you'll find lots of cards parked there)
- Skateboarding from 6pm onwards in the Dee Lane car park.
- Prioritys have changed to liquids and gases , but still you can find the odd skater about the place , Safeway is all ways a good idea , St Bridgets if any of them are consious
