Clubs (Dance Music) and Music Bars
  • Mash if u wana get wasted they have a gd DJ/band on fridays...Old market inn for nice food nd a quiet drink,,,th eclipse..
  • "Guildhall - Diabolical except there seems to be a good DJ on Friday nights who can actually mix tracks as opposed to pressing ">>" on a CD Player" That's Tom Needham. Don't know if he's still there, but that guy got told off by management for playing trance/house 'cos it attracted teh 'wrong crowd'. R'n'B doesn't?!?!
  • Moloko - This seclusion of depravity has been a landmark on the 'Chester scene for years now, and is not fully appreciated here. Its subtle but potent mix of young scantily clad magdalens and the effacious and constant beat of the 'pop' classics hammered out by the DJs is sufficient to turn any man weak at the knees. Add to this Winchester's Best Dressed Doorman (TM) and Steven Seagal look-a-like, then what more can you demand from an evening. Fridays and Saturday nights in particular are tremendous, and nearly always devolve into quadruple vodka and coke sessions, and a destructive spirit when crossing the Cathedral Grounds to get home. See you there.....
  • O'neils for a cosy chummy piss up or Savanah for a scorchingly hot dancefloor and over priced stella
  • The Railway Inn is open until midnight (oooh, wow) on Fri & Sat and usually has music – either bands or DJs – until then. Good jukebox too...
  • er.... well i heard there are plans to bash some stuff down and build a massive super-club, i don't know how true this is, but i'm sure it will make winchester's streets even nicer to walk through at night. but if you like dance music go to homelands.
  • Karma Nighclub - Winchester. Nice one Harvey, yet again you have showed a complete lack of understanding about why your proposal gets all the city centre residents boiling with rage. It is not just a few ol fogeys, there are now 850 local residents who are opposed to this proposal. The bulk of which are under forty years old. Just stop and think about this for one second. Its 4am, you are city centre resident, you want to sleep and you can't because some dickhead has opened a 1500 capacity rave venue and it is throwing out time. Get real butt face, or i will open a nightclub on your doortstep
  • Guildhall - Diabolical except there seems to be a good DJ on Friday nights who can actually mix tracks as opposed to pressing ">>" on a CD Player (Feb 2004) Cramped space, smokey atmosphere and flooded men's toilets and occasionally rip-off prices make this the place to go on Mondays and Fridays. Porthouse - Good on Thursday nights, good mix of songs even though they are a little cheesey. Dance floor slightly bigger than 2 snooker tables, and no drinks allowed on dance floor :(
  • Fuck the porthouse and go to moloko's for some classic r&b tunes. It definetly has the best music out in winchester, but like the rest has major disadvantages, they charge a fiver to get in and the drinks are ridiculously expensive, plus go no later than half nine unless you want to queue for up to an hour and a half. But a GOOD night, its always worth it to go there in the long run.
  • ermmm....... molokos?? porthouse?? but are they even clubs?? both get incredibly packed..but lots of gorgeous young males and females dancing their socks off to the tunes so it cant all be that bad.....for molokos be prepared to pay an extra fiver to get upstairs.....to dance
  • Molokos is pretty cool - but always rammed due to a lack of real competition - come on somebody - cant you see there is a goldmine to be made here... Only real alternative is the Guildhall - small, smokey, same R&B DJ every night - DULL.
  • Mention the word 'club', and everyone bursts out laughing, or stares at you with their mouth open. Two worth mention are merely bars with music and a dancefloor. The Original Porthouse (or the 'Porthouse') is one. Two bars, mini dance floor and two floors for general sitting around and getting pissed. Student night every monday, archers aqua's, becks, purples are all £1.50. Home of the imfamous shot 'Frosbite'. £2 a shot, tastes of mint imperial, and gets you swinging by the end of the night. Ladies - the bog roll runs out quickly, always stock up before the night begins. Don't bother using the mens, you get chucked out. Tried it before. The bouncers let you in if you have i.d. on Mondays, but if you try again another night, even if it's the SAME bouncer who CHATTED YOU UP on that Monday, they will ask for other forms of I.D. and may even turn you away. They are suckers for short skirts and pretty girls, and there are plenty of them in Winchester. The Guildhall (The 'Guild') is now in competition with the Porthouse and has recently taken lots of trade (lots of King Alfie students go there now). Monday nights are student nights, free enty, with various shots at 50p each, randing from tequila slammers, sambuka, vodka, WKD 40, which tastes of flat lucazade, but gets the night going. Be warned, can be very expensive. A bottle of WKD can sometimes set you back as far as £3.15. Ask for offers as the barmaids are lovely...yes, barmaids. All very pretty and skilful with bottles. Nice cocktails, especially Pondlife. Absynthe and a strange drink which is clear with gold sparkly bits in. £4 a shot however, but if your into drink and sparkly things, and too drunk to care, perhaps the Guild's for you for wasting paycheques and student loans. Good music, gets busy very quickly, so arrive before 8.30pm. Ladies - bog roll. Take some. Or just do the 'Sit and wiggle' routine. You can pull easily here on Mondays and on Fridays. All you gotta do is just be walking...or pushing by the right person, at the right time.
  • What clubs??? Porthouse is OK if you like being vomited on. Guildhall Tavern is OK if you want to be glassed otherwise go to Southampton
  • U don't have any!!!! But if ur lookin 4 squaddies, head 4 da Guildhall, or Charles House. Can b charming if ur on da rite side, but do u really wanna b?!
  • The porthouse is always good for a laugh, plus if you have a granny fetish or like big birds (not the Sesame Street variety), you'll be in heaven! Tunes can be a bit cheesy but the vodka is cheap and there are a few nice bar maids.
  • Not many, as winchester is a cathederal town there are strict laws on late night closing, but its improving. Theres the guildhall tavern at the bottom of town, which comes remotely close to being classed as a sort of club thing, but thats very squady orientated ad shite.
  • go to southampton
  • Golf clubs, yes. Loads of the fuckers.
  • Bit of a cheat really, as its not in Winch, but there is friday night coach to The Opera House in Bornemouth (v v good club, v v good DJ's), which'll give you an amazing night, and even bring you home! Where to get the tickets shouldn't be spread about however, as there are never enough anyway, if you care, you'll find out!
  • The Porthouse has now rebranded itself as the "Original" porthouse, complete with funky brand new high tech interior... and rather old blokes and remarkable young women clients!
  • The word "Night Club" in Winchester is a joke. There are 2 clubs:The Porthouse which has a dance floor the size of a snooker table & the other is Charles House above a Chinese resaurant which is probably just as poxy. On Saturdays they have to shut at midnight cos of some Draconian council law because of that stupid thing Hitler should have bombed: THE CATHEDRAL.
  • Charlies - rough, if youve not lived in a local council estate all our life AVOID - frequently blood on the stairs - Ive had a good kicking outside before now. The Porthouse - just reopened, a bit local with regular chart music, quite frienly and fit podium dancers
  • The Porthouse is a pretty good place to go if you are just up for a laugh with your mates or if you want to pull desperately. It's just been refurbished June 2000) but I haven't seen inside yet. It's worth checking out.
  • The Porthouse is supposed to be good for a dance or two - i've never been as the door men look a bit odd.
  • the mash tun on thursday night, bagin house plus sexy landlords
  • I always used to wish there was some sort of decent night in winch, now i know that any night there would by definition be shite. oh and don't bother with the club bit of the porthouse it's full of squaddies and it sucks
  • Charles House-watch your face though, some people have lost theirs in there.
