- the dark hotel
- The Rose and Crown pub is the most popular in Wivenhoe. Situated directley on the river front, it attracts people from far and wide. Drinking by the river on a summers day is somthing few people can resist.
- Umpteen and there used to be more (I lived in the house that used to be the Falcon). The Greyhound used to be such a hub of life , sometimes it still captures that feeling , but the beer isn't always great there. I hear Jan is leaving which is the end of an era. The Black Buoy is very pretty and does excellent food, but now feels too much like a Bistro. The Rose has the finest location but the new managers need to fix their air conditioning as it gets very smoky on Fridays (and I smoke!!). The Horse and Gloom (sorry Groom) is not gloomy at all and does the best bacon butty ever! The Station is lovely but tiny - one of the most atmospheric pubs in Wivenhoe.
