The Stuff We Can't Fit In Somewhere Else
- Wordsley is very old, from Water Street running up to High Street and passing behind the Holy Trinity Church Buildings is a path that is classed as prehistoric on six inch to the mile maps.
Excavations many years ago whilst digging the mineshaft for the colliery, where Buckpool School presently stands, revealed what is said to be the rotted wooden posts of huts similar to those used by neolithic tribesmen.
Unfortunately the photographic proof has been lost over the years and all we have left is hearsay of some old residents.
The original main road ran down as far as church road, turned right and ran along church road for about two hundred yards, it then turned left and descended a steep bank to kinver street across what is now the car park and back onto the present day main road to stourbridge.
It was Turnpiked from Bromley Lane past the then Workhouse past the Church gates and straight down the hill over the bridge and joined the main road at what was then called Brewery Street/Brierley Hill road,junction with the then high street.
- Wordsley Wasps U10's mini soccer would like to welcome anyone to a four week trial (under 10 1.8.00).We train at Wordsley park and play in the Stourbridge League. We are looking for players to strenghen the squad for this season and also recruit for next season when we go from seven a side to eleven a side. Come and enjoy competative football with Wordsleys own football club who recently celebrated 25 years together.
