- McDonalds has opened out of town on the Derwent Howe Shopping Estate. Also on that estate a new Caspian Grill has opened, which is both a restaurant and take away. Loads of chippies throughout the town.
- Walters-the biggest supermarket in Cockermouth, tends to run out of stock and low hygeine standards-mouse droppings found in cheese once! Spar-the good old Spar-quality food for quality prices!good roast ham Co-op-recently expanded the co-op offers a good range of foods, the bread section (la cuisine de france) is recommended, it offers a large variety of crusty rolls in various sizes. Birketts cake shop-recently opened shop of this branch, offers excedingly good cakes as mr kipling would say, i specially recomend the iced fingers (a bargain at 30p) and the mini one sized banoffi pies, ummmm, also the fruit tarts. Martins Bakery-iced at 2p less than birketts however tend to be abit stalerm but that might be due to my late buying of them as i buy them at 16.00 hours. But i strongly recomend this shop especially the white loaves, sliced or unsliced. Brysons-a true lake district shop, this has to be my overall favourite bakery in cockermouth, u cant beat it. I strongly recomend the iced fingers and the bath buns but i unfortunatly have been a little disapointed with the lack of cherries that they put in these days, i blame it on dougie!! Bells of lazonby-formerly known as central cafe, havent been in it recently but used to be very good, they do a stunning ginger cake and a homebaked malt loaf, very tasty. Morgans-best sweet shop around for miles, u can buy excedingly tasty soft midget gems from there, ummm. Country Kitchen-all i know about this is they do a smashingly tasty meat and potato pie and pork and egg pie. Health Food shop-lots to recomend here-apricot bars, Sasperela-delicious drink, licorice toffees-ah this brings back memorys, they used to sell these great crisps-i had them in nursery every week, herbal teas-for those spiritual lift ups. Number 17-cheese shop-often smells pretty bad and there has been one lump of cheese which has been in the window for well over 3 years now, plus the owners over work and under pay the staff.
- Haigh's has the best CUMBERLAND Sausage in the world
- Romano's near old brewery, (Cheers & Trout Hotel in nearby Cockermouth). Through the day the best food is available at Rea's the Bakers, who do the best pies in the world.
[But] Reas the bakers has closed down. - Best chip shops in the world - Moorclose chippy and Superfish by Marks and Spencer. Excellent!
- Birketts meat and potato pies are absolutely gorgeous and will go down in history.
- there is now a macdonalds on clay flats
