Famous residents and ex-residents.

You can tell us more about Worthing.

Cringing Cult of Celebrity
  • Another inaccuracy, I'm afraid... Idol went to Worthing High School for Boys, not Durrington High. I was in his class - he was sporty and quite conformist.
  • Someone said Keith Emerson was in King Crimson. Actually that was Greg Lake. Before ELP, Emerson was with The Nice.
  • The actor who played the doctor in American Werewolf in London, John Woolvet.
  • Alma Cogan
  • Meg Wynn Owen (actress) of Upstairs Downstairs and Gosford Park fame live in Worthing, as do Magicians/Authors Paul Gordon & Roger Crosthwaite.
  • Tony Allcock (won the world title in bowls loads of time) - spotted him while he was walking his dog, my brother was impressed, I didnt know who he was 0_o
  • Simon Mayo lived in Worthing and went to Worthing High School for Boys (1970-75) which later became Worthing Sixth Form College and is now Worthing College. He was in the year above me and was quite average at school and had dreadful acne!
  • Keith Emerson of King Crimson and Emerson Lake and Palmer (piano, keyboards and vocals), lived on the Maybridge estate in Goring. He went to West Tarring school and worked at Lloyds Bank Registrars, where he played piano in the bar at lunchtimes. He now lives in the USA and has written the music for many Hollywood blockbuster films.
  • The Ordinary Boys. A very talented band. Yes, they include that bloke, Samuel Preston. The one on Celebrity Big Brother. Won't name names but some live in Hove, some live in Worthing. It's all good. Wouldn't be a good idea to harrass them.
  • The woman who plays edie britt in desperate housewives was born here but i cant remember what her real name is
  • Nicolette Sheridan who plays edie in Desperate Housewives was born in Worthing on 21st Nov 1963.
  • .............what?............
  • Benny Hill's brother used to live on the outskirts. Peter Bonetti, ex-England goalkeeper (allegedly), used to play for Worthing Catholic - perhaps that's where he perfected his Mexican fumble! Hugh Lloyd (friend of Terry and June) and countless thespians, especially if appearing in local panto etc. The place has been used for numerous filming episodes, e.g. Ever Decreasing Circles and Men Behaving Badly (this is where Carolyn Quinten met her hubby)!
  • Billy Idol used to go to Durrington High!! Hehe! Katie Price aka Jordan lives in Brighton
  • Lets face it, would any of them own up to it??
  • Marina Sirtes (Councillor in Star Trek) lived in Worthing whilst in Rep at the Connaught Theatre during the late 1970s
