Cringing Cult of Celebrity in Yateley, Hampshire*

Famous residents and ex-residents.

You can tell us more about Yateley.

Cringing Cult of Celebrity
  • Wayne Dobson - Dobson was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) in 1988. Although he knew this would eventually come to limit his mobility he determined to carry on working to his fullest potential. He also became an ambassador for the Multiple Sclerosis Resource Centre (MSRC) charity.
  • Probabaly more notorious than famous is the doctor who killed a bunch of his patients. I think he lived off Tudor Drive. "Ickle Rob Ellis". Rob Winard who burnt down Waitrose. Look out for Sian Kidd and Stuart Pearson in the future though.
  • couple of Reading FC player go to the dog & partridge once a week, and will carling ex-england rugby international drinks in the pub
  • the brixton nail bomber when to yately school if the lies are true i think
  • The London bomber blokey. Sooty, Sweep & Sue. Erm, thats about it. Sam McCabe...for the worlds loudest voice ever.
  • i'm sure a few have driven through this town then decided that next time tey'd take the motor way. More scenic
  • Ohhh. We had some famous athletes. Well 2. Well 1 that you might have heard of. Christina Boxer (now a BBC Athletics presenter) went to Yateley School as did Kerry Shatlock, the olympic sychronised swimmer.
  • Terry Abbott - musician in the band, Vex Red. James Ford - artist with a novel website: www.housegymnastics.com
  • The magician was Wayne Dobson. Someone nicked his fast car if I remember rightly.
  • Marcus Lillington - guitar player from Breathe (1980's fame) and a magician who was famous for 5 minutes and lived in one of the nice houses on the common. Oh and don't forget Lord Monteagle of course. The London Nail Bomber was once a student at Yateley Comp - says it all really The landlord at the Dog & Partridge is the leader of the Monster Raving Loony Party
  • There's the cat who is the chairman of the Monster Raving Loony Party, and if you didnt thin that was strange enough, they hold all their meetings and have their HQ in The Dog and Partridge!
  • If there was they would have left before the place had a detremental impact on their IQ i.e before the age of 3
  • Apparantly Anne Robinson went to the Village School (now demoted to Vilage Hall). And no, I don't think you can blame us for everything...
  • The magician's name was Wayne Dobson - whatever happenned to.........
  • That awful late '80s "band" Breathe....remember "Hands to Heaven"? Thought not.....
  • Lord Montegal lived in Yateley.
  • Joel Stevens. Still a resident today, and often seen walking randomly about the place, he still appears to be somewhat damaged, as he ever did. Peter Coleman. Also well known, for having long hair, and for smelling of musk. Likes metal music, and has a dog, Sam, whom he loves most dearly. Very approachable fellow, likes to go out for a drink, or 9. Mrs Toolbox. Yateley School Supply Teacher. her exact location is not known, but she is surely somewhere, in Yateley. Used to teach Classics, kind of.
  • Noone seems to have mentioned Sean Devereaux, the local hero who did charity work in Somalia, but was sadly shot by a hired gunman for speaking out against national opression. Sean Devereaux park is named after him, and his biography is now available to buy from all good bookshops. If Yately produced one good thing, ever, it's Sean.
  • Pete Morey SHOULD be famous...
  • ex drummer from CABLE.
  • Famous people from Yateley, hmmmmmm, now let's see.......... Give me a few days, I'm sure I'll come up with somebody.
  • tony blair and david beckhams mum
  • There was a famous magician who used to live in Yateley (name escapes me just now!!) And of course, we WERE home to that adorable hand puppet, Sooty and friends (Ever wondered why he couldn't speak???)
  • Dick Turpin used to hide out in Yateley Common near the A30 and hold up coaches on their way to London. Also links to Guy Fawkes. The infamous Vicar Parson Darby was also a highwayman on the side but got himself hanged. Darby Green is named after him.
