  • Expressions on Walmgate is an amazing aladin's cave of retro gear, at affordable prices. i forgot to ask what the owners were called but they were both really freindly and will advertise your gig. If you're looking for some different stage wear or you just like being different Expressions is perfect.

  • tk maxx at monks cross sells most labels at cheaper prices
  • Ark, freespirit, mayhem, o neil shop, exit, foreva changes, pulse, pandamonium are the best for cool n crazy girls clothing
  • Free Spirit in york, rules!, its a bit steep but the staff are really nice and will let you get away with it if you're a couple of quid short.

  • Classix has moved from across from McDonalds to Goodram Gate (near the Minster). It sells awesome clothes & accessories as well as having an excellent body piercing studio.

  • Take a stroll down goodramgate and you have the choice of over 3, 500 charity shops
  • Pulse & Forever changes r good greebo clothes shops. Classix & Pandimonium sell gud goth clothes, and Exit iz gud 4 sk8rs

  • try huxtables down that road with army&navy stores on the end for jeans. army&navy stores themselves arn't bad either
  • The best shops in york are:- miss selfride, topshop, warehoue, river island, and hmv
  • Ark, pulse ( both down colliergate) exit ( whipmawhopma gate), free spirit (st. helens square ) foreva changes ( stone gate), army and navy

  • Noctule on Gillygate is great!
  • Classix for hoodies,Forever Changes for jeans and Free Spirit for cool but expensive Quicksilver gear.
  • Nice actually. I live in Edinburgh usually (student, I know) and am aware of the chain-store tripe on offer but York has lots of littler shops which has a wide range and is a nice change.
  • CLASSIX! it's moved to oppositte mcdonalds now
  • Peacocks, Front Street Acomb. For the Bargin Hunter.
  • Sur+ in Fishergate for army surplus and combat gear.
  • Some great ones in the back streets. Arc, mayhem, pvc (on Walmgate), plus all the usual on the high street (Coney Street).
  • Kaos down Gillygate, Classix down Low Petergate and Forever Changes down Stonegate all have bargains galore. People who shop at TopShop need not apply.
  • loadsa charity shops for u studenty types, and a growing number of trendy boutiques - if neither's your thing there's always marks & sparks
  • Huxtables sell the best baggy jeans, and for £15 what more can you ask for?
  • Forever changes sells good hippy type stuff. And the odd totem pole if you like that sort of thing
  • MAHEM AND EXIT ARE THE BEST
  • Kaos (beyond the Minster) is cool for 70s and other weird clothing. You can also hire costumes from there.
  • Check out Mayhem in the Market area, it's an absolute winner, especially if you skate, speak to Nick and ask him how Jack is, this will really confuse Him.
  • Check out Phoenix on Walmgate for top retro gear.
