Hi I stumbled on this message (below) from a couple of years ago - I am a distant relative of Selina Goodchild and may have a small amount of info - not sure if this member (Tim Ayling)still uses this messageboard? Anyway, we have limited information at the moment, but they are Goodchild, he was Arthur Goodchild, and the marriage was to a Violet S.L. O'Hara, which we have copies of the register for, they were married in last quarter 1919, at the moment we have not found any evidence of children with this relationship. But, he did have a second relationship which did produce my mother and her sister. He was the son of Selina Goodchild. All of them either have lived or still live in Grundisburgh. I believe Selina was married to Joseph Goodchild. My great grandmother was married to William Goodchild.I think William and Joseph were brothers. I believe they had public houses and butchers shops. Currently looking for old mate Steve (Snowball) Noble who I last knew in Yoxford around 1992. He worked at Sizewell B as a Quality Inspector..Contacted him in 2001 when I moved to Weeting in Norfolk, but have had mail returned as 'no longer in residence'..Would like to contact him as he has some photos of us in the Sultanate of Oman, 1983-84. My mother served in the WLA in 1944-45. She was stationed at the hostel in Peasenhall where she met Donna Button whom I believe lives in Yoxford. My Mothers name was IVY ROBERTS, now deceased. I would very much like to contact Donna and find out any information she might have regarding her WLA days with my mother. I read a letter posted on WW2 Peoples War web site in which Donna referenced my m others name and I was shocked to find someone from the WLA who knew her. Please respond. Has anyone looked at any historical documents that mentions such local families such as Allum, Ablett, Sparrow, Goodchild, Read. I am doing some family research and would like to hear of any mentions of thes families. In return I am willing to do family history research in Ipswich. Re: Badingham area history by Lawrence Allum (Member 10199938) on 30-Dec-2006 Unfortunately time is the limiting factor for me but I have had some progress with the Allum family line. So far I’m back to 1655 (Oliver Cromwell era) but still not back, as I understand, to the MacAllum’s and their move from maybe Argyll, Scotland. They apparently worked the land in the Horham, Athelington, Badingham area of Suffolk until around 1840 when David (my GG-grandfather)and his b rother Robert, who were both married to sisters from the Goodchild family, moved their families to Ludlow, Shropshire, and became innkeepers. Inn keeping in Ludlow stayed with David’s son, William (my greatgrandfather) and in the 1901 census William’s son, Thomas (my grandfather) aged about 20, was shown as brewer at the inn. By that time William had died and the innkeeper was shown as being Thomas’ stepmother (Thomas’ mother apparently died at or soon after his birth in 1880). During the following years Thomas married Mary Woodall (although born in Dudley, West Midlands, is shown in the 1901 census as living with her family in Rawtenstall, Lancashire) and moved to the County Borough of West Ham to become a tug skipper in the then thriving River Thames dock industry. I am trying to trace my family from Yoxford. My my g.g.grandmother, Lydia Ann Scroggins:- Christened: 12.12.1830, Yoxford, father James and mother Mary Married: John Rugg (Russ??) 13.3.1854, Isleworth, London Son Born: James Frederick Rugg 16.3.185 7, Yoxford Died: John Rugg between 1857-1865? Lived: 40 Kensington Sq, Yoxford? in 1865 School: James attended Yoxford School in 1865 Australia: Lydia and son James Frederick arrived in Sydney on s.s."Mataura" 20.11.1866 James married Alice Jones (b 1858) Walsal, England) 15.7.1879 in Sydney. Their son, Frederick Rugg, served in AIF WWW1 and visited relatives in UK whilst serving overseas. Their daughter, Mabel, married Henry Oswald Robinson, Sydney in 1907. I am looking for my stepbrother who would be 56 - 57 yrs old now. during WWll, 1943 - 44, my father, Robert "Gordon" Cole was stationed at Aldershot. He was a gunnar instructor in the Canadian Armored Corps. While there he would go into London on his leaves and it was either in London or in Aldershot, he met a love. Her name was possibly Emma, we are not altogether sure on this name. We can on ly hope that son was told of his father and given him his name to know.
