To whomever may be able to assist,
I'm a very experienced house/pet sitter, looking for a position in the Hastings/St.Leonards-on-sea area for short or long-term, beginning immediately. I'm a writer and a composer needing a quiet space to work in for a few months, possibly longer, and I have many, many references for the caretaking of both animals and properties. I'll also consider an affordabl... more >>

Are John Sims and John Wilkinson still about in Hastings. I'd love to hear from the pair of you. We worked together for, F.H.Wheeler Ltd and had a lot of laughs. The only thing I have ever heard about you; is that John Sims run, or probably still runs, a karate school in Hastings. I hope to hear from you old rapscallions, all the best for now. Marmont family of Hastings by Diana (Member 10210429) on 9-Jul-2007
Hi,

Anyone know of the Marmont family that originated from Chepstow and ended up in Hastings and Tonbridge Kent? The family comprised Ellen, James, John, Cecil, Ida to name a few. Ellen was born in 1887 and disappeared after 1901 census. She married an Alfred Perry and they ended up in Stoke Newington from 1915 - 1940ish.

Any help would be gratefully accepted.

Memories of Hastings and St Leonards by Angus Jones (Member 10050634) on 22-Oct-2006
There was barbed wire along the seafront. You could not get onto the beach. I had to learn to swim in the swimming baths. I still have a card from H.E.S.S.A. The pier had a hole blown in the middle, I assume so that it could not be used for landing. V1s would fly overhead. It could have been one of those that landed on a church to the west of St Leonards.

Moving to Hastings by Ron Bedford (Member 10177134) on 12-Feb-2006
Hi

I am very interested in moving to Hastings from London.
I can only do so much research sitting at a computer in London and was looking for some local knowledge on where to avoid when puchasing a property although I would like it as close to the sea front as possible.
I would also like to know more about Hastings itself, warts and all. I have not been to Hastings for a few years now but wil... more >>

Ignore the idiotic message above. Perhaps a down-side of Hastings is people of that kind of mentality.

The town has actually picked up a lot in recent years. The new shopping centre seems to have breathed new life into it.

There are some really nice walks to be found along the top of the cliffs to Ore and Fairlight and of course the castle and plenty of olde worlde shops in the Old High... more >>
