I'm looking to trace family members in the gateshead area who I have not had contact with since the late 60's early 70's. My mothers name was Ethel Crooks(formerly Bramwell)and she had two children Jim(that me) and Peter. She moved to london. She had brothers Robbie and John(I think) and a sister who's surname was Walker(I think her christian name was June)but I do remember her childrens names, Ji mmy, Robert, Alan, Keith and June. Does anyone have any information or know anyone who lived in either the Lee Hill (Lanchester) Cottage Homes, or Medomsley Edge Cottage Homes or the Saltwell View Woring Boys Hostel, Gateshead during the 1930's - 1940's. My father, Ron Holder, lived in all 3 with his brother, and his sister Sadie lived in the girls cottages. They also attedmed the village schools in Lanchester and Medomsley Edge. Searching for information on Charles Henry Cottrell born 1904, he immigrated to Australia from Middlesbrough in about 1920. Charles (Jack) led a colourful life there where he registered several patents from diving breathing appartus to smoke filters. He was a member of the New South Wales Firebrigade and was a talented driver of the main Sydney fire truck "The Flyer". He worked for Australian W ireless Amalgamated as an engraver on aviation components. In 1942 he leased two restaurants in the City of Sydney which were popular eating establishments to American Servicemen. After selling them he trained as a Hairdresser and opened a Salon in Hall Street, Bondi. His later years were spent in Victoria where he became involved in farming. ... more >> Reply

My grandad was Michael Higgins born 1879 in Felling, Gateshead, England, married a Dorothy Alice Gibson, had quite a lot of c hildren. One including my mother Elsie Higgins born 1920 in Tanfield Lea, Durham, England. Michael Higgins died in January 1953 and was buired in January 1953 I think at St. Marys, Heworth, Gateshead, England. His parents were Henry Higgins born 1846 in Ireland and Bridget McNally born 1856 in I think Felling, Gateshead or High Felling, Gateshead, England.
