Halifax Palace Theatre

Would love to contact anyone who remembers Halifax Palace Theatre. I worked backstage there in the fifties for many years. Also looking for Joan Cowan who left Halifax in the late fifties. She may have married and changed her name so it is a difficult task. Anyone who can give me information please get in touch.

Looking for a long lost friend
|
by Kev (Member 10163717) on 28-Oct-2006
|
Hi there, I hope somebody can help me.
I am looking for an old friend of mine. Her name was Tracy O'Leary (maiden name Robinson).
Tracy would be about 33 years old now.
She has a daughter called Kimberley who would be about 16 years old. Tracey has other children but I can't remember what sexes or ages they are.
Tracy is originally from Lincoln but moved to Halifax in about 1992.
If anyone is able to help, no matter how insignificant the information may seem, please contact me at k_s_evans@hotmail.com.
Thanks for taking the time to read this. ... more >>

Re: Robin Hoods Grave Walk
by barbara green (Member 10137504) on 25-Sep-2007
From: barbara (Original Message) Sent: 25/09/2007 12:16
Once again people are invited to Kirklees Estate to see Robin Hood's Grave and once again the Yorkshire Robin Hood Society is refused permission to sell their book about the site--The Outlaw Robin Hood His Yorkshire Legend--and postcards of the site. Why? Because Mr David Nortcliffe, on the isntructions of the lady of the manor, German-born Margaret Armytage--says no. It might scare the cows! So once again the YRHS will picket the gates of Kirklees with their literature on Sunday the 30th, so that people can have a chance to read about Robin Hood and his local connections.
This carry-on has gone on since 1984 due to the cap-doffing members of Calderdale Council. Yet they have no probelm letting the likes of Princess Anne visit the siye--oh no ,ma-am--more cap-doffing than ever, or the ubiquitous Tony Robinson who wrote all about it, as though he had discovered singled handed Robin Hood of Yorkshire a few years ago! Strangely her Ladywhip did allow Scream Team to hold an old night vigil in 2003 with medium Ronnine Buckingham for a fee of £300. He saw a strange spectre of man in green tights! Well I never!

I AM WRITING A BOOK ON DISTRICT NURSING and would like someone to illustrate it. I am not sure how soon it will be finished--it is three quarters done, and yet to find a publisher, so I cant offer financial reward but if any art student or artist would like to be part of this project please get in touch.

Press Release 12.3.06
ladies of the night
Retired District Nurse Barbara Green is preparing to bring out a book about her experience in district nursing based on her memories of her years working in Calderdale . The book is called Ladies of the Night--alternative title Where the Heart Isnt ! As Barbara says , What you see on television unfortunately shows a very unrealistic picture about what really goes on as a district nurse. It isnt all cups of tea and bed baths!
The action takes place in the beautiful Yorkshire valley of Wirralsdale and covers the adventures of two nurses ---and their trusty companion Buster the dog ---in the early years of this century. It is set against a background of international terrorism and the Firemans Strike among other things. Although all the events are based on reality Barbara has muddled situations up in order to protect patient confidentiality. Indeed, some of the events happened many years ago, but have gone down as unforgettable nursing legends in Barbaras diary . The dog who needed CPR, the Taliban roaming the hills of Tebenroyd, the ghost of Tommy Cooper and the werewolves of Wirralsdale are some of the more amusing anecdotes . But in and among all the hilarity are more sobering accounts of visits to the sick and elderly, with touching recollections of those patients and their families who Barbara will always remember for their spirit and courage in the face of adversity.
