Hello from Canada
Great site. I am looking for a chap by the name of Richard Foster whose address was or is The Grooms Cottage Wisham Park, Tadcaster. He has a fellow here in Canada by the name of Robert Banister from Lancashire, wanting to make contact with his old mate. If anyone knows of Richards whereabouts, could you please email me and I will give the message to Robert. Thank you.

Hi!
Are you sure it was Wisham park? Never heard of it, although it could be the park where my girlfriend lived, and we "hang out" several years back .. This is Grimston Park, about 2 miles from Tadcaster. It has a manor house, now converted, which formed part of Bomber Command during the war. Best wishes ... Al (see my entry below)

Missing friend ........

Hello!
Hi Im looking for my long time friend. Her name at the time was Carol A Rutt. We lost contact several years back around 1994. In fact, she was my intended at that time. I used to work at RAF C.Fenton, but a move to S. Wales messed up our relationship. She lived with her M+D at Kirkby Wharfe, near Ulleskelf. They since passed away, last I heard, she may be living with a guy in Bolton P. She may keep a horse, and she is fair haired and around 5'2" tall, slight build, and around 35-40 now. She had a few cars. The last I knew of was an XR3 Escort. Anyone knowing of her, I would most appreciate it! My email is available through Knowhere, but I call in from time to time. Thanks for the help, anyone! Al Bags. Northamptonshire. ... more >>

Carol does indeed live in Bolton Percy and until recently worked a couple of nights a week at the Crown Inn, if you were to speak to Barbara, the Landlady, she could probably give you carol's address or phone number. The phone number of the Crown is 01904 744255

Message Board
Well here it is the Tadcaster Message Board.
We have recieved so many requests to bring it back that we had no allternative but to do so.
This message board is slightly different to the last one, there will not be any pop ups or any other kind of advertising on it to annoy you.
At the moment we are experimenting with it so it might slightly change from time to time, with extra features and what ever we can add to it to improve it.
If you dont understand any feature on it or think you have an idea of how to improve it give a email and we will see what we can do.
Enjoy it.

ADSL for Taddy
|
by shumba (Member 10021303) on 10-Aug-2002

I note on the official Taddy website that there is a campaign to try and bring ADSL to the town. Well looking at the amount who've registered so far I wish you all the luck in the world. I'm suprised people in Tad even know what it is. I'm sure the towns only just got the BBC another abbreviation is just another one too many for people to comprehend.
Besides theres only one phone in the town and that was only laid because it was enroute between Leeds and York ... more >>

Well this message from Shumba says it all, I have built a new improved version of the last message board we had on the Tadcaster website and was going to upload it this shortley. Well why should I bother? Why should I even bother with the Tadcaster website? Am I just wasting my time and effort?

Re: ADSL for Taddy
by shumba (Member 10021303) on 14-Aug-2002
Yep your right, no matter how hard you try you will always be a one man band. Get off your horse and drink the murky waters of the Wharfe.
The technological age exists elsewhere whereas bitterness and down right ignorance continues before you. Many others in Tad for at least 25 years have tried to do wonderous things no matter how small and they've all failed and thats why its the pit that it is today. I admire your commitment Ush but whos that to? Certainly wouldn't be for the people of Tad. Think of number one and use your energy and expertise elsewhere. ... more >>

Come on you guys, let's tone it down a bit. It's not all as bad as you may think. Your efforts are appreciated by most, the minority towrags and misfits need to be shown up for what they are. However, isn't ASDL a bit dear for the average punter. We have this connection at The Tower Brewery and it is much faster. Perhaps if there was more commercial take up and competition for supply the price would come down.

new traffic arrangements

by Peter Bradshaw (Member 10012030) on 25-Jul-2002

|
Have you been in the Ark to register your opinion about the proposed changes to the traffic flow through your town? Have you sent back the form deliverd to your door? The changes proposed are going to affect how you get through the town for a very long time. Who, may one ask, decided that car journeys from one side of the town t ot he other were unesessary and should be done by other means? Do we need another two sets of traffic lights in the main street? This is the only site left where you may express your opinion freely about events in Tadcaster, so let's hear it folks. ... more >>

Re: new traffic arrangements

Well the people of Tadcaster East and Islington have to come right through Tad to get onto the A64 to Leeds. And, the lorries from Sherburn in Elmet Industrial Estate nearly always come through Tadcaster on the A162, up Leeds Road, and on to Bramham Cross Roads to access to A64 to Leeds or the A1, there are an awful lot of them each day. The proposed slip roads at either end of the by-pass should stop the unecccessary cross town traffic ... more >>

Looking at the Jubilee Photo makes one realise what a successful day Tadcaster had. Because I had to work, (it's all go at Coors Brewers!), I certainly did miss out on a great day. Well done to Richard Sweeting and his team of organisers. Arise Sir Richard?!

I also missed it but caught up with the fun on the Ush website. I took a mini bus of veterens to Belgium and France to lay wreaths on the anniversay of the evacuation of Dunkirk. Driving a 17 seater mini bus was a doddle but the pensioners gave me hassle!

New development
|
by Peter Bradshaw (Member 10012030) on 17-Apr-2002
|
Another ephemeral vision or have we this time a reality ? On first view this new scheme seems more practicable than those previously proposed. Let's see what's on offer before the usual knocking process begins. Is it possible that SS Estates & Selby DC have at last buried the hatchet in the soil and not in each others heads as previously ?

I agree entirely. Let's hope we can move forward with this town of ours. Please come along to the Public Meeting on Monday 29th April at 7.30pm at the Riley Smith Hall where you will see a presentation of Tadcaster - the future
-
Re: New development
by Peter Bradshaw (Member 10012030) on 20-May-2002
Well, what do you think about it ? Lots of houses, for rent or sale? No public amenity buildings, we still seek a site for a museum. Are Tad. shops a lost cause, with a few hard working exceptions? Let's hear from you out there.

Re: New development

No comments then? Very Tad.
-
Re: New development
by Peter Bradshaw (Member 10012030) on 12-Jun-2002
No comments then? Are all these proposed houses for sale or rent? There is a boom in property for rent at the moment. The proposed scheme would require a large injection of public money into road alteration to succeed. We need to know NOW whether new property in this proposal is for sale or rent and how much of your Council Tax is involved. New shops are proposed to infill derelict sites. Will these join the other empty properties on the High Street, unlettable because of the "dead hand" of the landlord? An alternative was proposed at the public meeting without any details being given. Perhaps it is time to hear about this. The agreement about the final settlement of the dispute over the central car park is most welcome. Is it a harbinger of more common sense to come? Tadcaster people are rightly fed up with the antics of those people who deem themselves their betters, whether by election or property ownership and it is long past time that thier views were heard. So GET WRITING NOW!!! ... more >>

No surveys of want the people want in Tadcaster are ever done. We want good shops to help with tourisim to make new jobs. Of course no one can afford the rents on these. We want the police to walk the streets and turn up when we dail for help! We want people to have houses and for them not to stand empty because someone is not married. Surely this is another take over and extension of a certain persons empire.

How sad yet typical that a stupid minority have closed the message booard. You'll have to find a way of making access through a password like wot this is then you can trace the clowns.

Iam sorry it has come to this, but I had no alternative as some of the messages which I recieved in recent days was unacceptable, hopfully I deleted them before they were viewed by anyone.
I have thought of some kind of password system and username similar to this one but will that work, maybe in the future I will do it. But at the moment I dont need the hassle I was getting.
Please understand I am trying to run a business here as well as a free service to Tadcaster as all the work on the Tadcaster Website is done in my free time, I get help from the few business who advertise on the site and some much appreciated historical photos from you Peter.
Thank you. ... more >>

As one who accessess the site daily, I am sure I speak for all when I say that the effort you put into the site does not go un-noticed and it is much appreciated that we have a "local" site. I agree with Peter that it is pity to loose such a valuable communication tool such as the message board, it would be nice to see it back in one form or another, but, I agree with you who needs the hassle - Robin
