So why is it that the planned (looks like a done deal) route is a completely new road cutting through open countryside linking Braintree to a redeveloped A12 at Feering? This new A120 road will start south of Braintree, significantly pass right next to the old Rivenhall airport at Silver End, and cut between Kelvedon and Coggleshall. Feering village will be squeezed in at the junction between the new A120 dual carriageway and a widened (3 lane) A12 . Some Feering residents will get compensation for the noise and inconvenience (most will not). The under-publicised alternative route roughly follows the current A120 route allowing villages like Bradwell and a few small hamlets and isolated houses a bypass and then dropping down to join a widened A12 midway between Feering and Marks Tey. This is the logical route. It follows the current A120 for part of the way and avoids all built up areas. This route will least inconvenience the most people and is surely the least the least environmentally damaging. The Highways Agency publish the small scale map of the planned route on their web but the large scale detailed map showing individual properties and the alternative option routes is only available on request!

Rumours are that the new road is routed along this southern and most destructive route to take the large numbers of HGVs needed to feed the separately planned toxic waste incinerator and land fill site at Silver End. Also, the land within the newly created triangle between Witham, Braintree and Feering will be concreted over to form a giant London over-spill housing estate. The Highways Agency officially deny knowledge of any of this and their plans as currently publicised certainly do not seem to take any of this into account. Rumours are that a major cheap housing developer is buying up land within this planned Feering/Witham/Braintree new A120/A12 triangle.

This building work will prevent ground soak up causing rain water run off into the Blackwater thereby increasing the flooding risk to everyone living within the area. The overall impact on the environment as well as local house values (already one of the lowest of all locations within one hour travelling time from London) will be disastrous.

Local residents have until the middle of May 2005 to lodge objections to the Highways Agency, to Alan Hurst (our local MP) and to the County and District Councillors. Please do not leave it to others to make the objections. Every household in all areas within and just outside of the Witham/Braintree/Feering triangle will need to write separately to –

as well as all of the local County and District councillors. These councillors each have an email link and can be contacted via the Essex County Council, Braintree District Council and Colchester Borough Council webs.

You will need to point out what you think should be the correct route for the A120 upgrade and state very clearly why you object (or agree!) to the proposed re-routing. You should question why the A120 is being re-routed along this southern route when the alternative under publicised northern Coggleshall bypass option is by far the most logical and least damaging route. (Alternatively, you will need to put up your own suggestions and ideas although 'no change' is not an option that will be accepted – the A120 must be dualled all the way to Harwich and this will happen). You will also need to ask for answers regarding rumours of the toxic waste incinerator, land fill site, volume of HGVs needed to feed the waste disposal works at Silver End, and the massive London over-spill housing estate. Everyone living in and round this area not responding will be assumed by the Highways Agency to be in agreement with ALL of these developments.

The A12 does need widening and improving and there is a need for access on and off of both directions of the A12 either as an additional junction at Inworth or at both the Feering and the Kelvedon junctions. This important need for local residents is ignored and the planned changes to the A12/A120 junction at Feering can have the potential to make the Tiptree access to the A12 considerably more difficult than it currently is. This question will also need to be raised with the Highways Agency as well as the local MPs and District and County Councillors.

Remember every person living within the A12/A120 Witham/Braintree/Feering triangle will be deemed to be in full agreement with this planned route and everything on the hidden agenda unless they do something about it.
