Trying to Find

I am looking to contact anyone related to either a Martha or Elizabeth Thompson born in Cumbria between 1901 and 1915. Their parents were Edmund Thompson and Edith Annie Thompson nee Simpson.
Martha or Elizabeth moved to Morecambe and became a teacher there (possibly 1940's/1950's) and when Edith Annie died Edmund moved from his home outside Carlisle to live with his daughter.

Hello people.

Im just wondering if some local person with a history of Morecambe could help me identify a structure in Morecambe?, i will try my best to describe it... this image i have is on a very old postcard - probebly around 1900-10. The caption on the postcard is very difficult to make out - but i 'think' it says "The Marlborough"?, the building is a large 4 story building and appears to... more >>

Good Food in Morecambe by Benji (Member 10170639) on 11-Feb-2006
If you want a really nice meal, or better still a delicious full English breakfast with generous portions and beautifully prepared and served, I would suggest Maggie's Cafe, in the centre of town, just off the promenade. It realy is nice and you can smoke in there, too. Nice friendly people!!

Agreed! The food really is first-class: friendly people, too.

Help!!! I am stuck in cyber hell! by babushka (Member 10167587) on 28-Oct-2005
Hello, is there anybody there! Is this the place of the living dead.
  • Re: Help!!! I am stuck in cyber hell! by honeypot (Member 10167822) on 28-Oct-2005
There is always someone close by, but some people don't always see it. Why do you think you are stuck in cyber hell?

  • Re: Help!!! I am stuck in cyber hell! by babushka (Member 10167587) on 28-Oct-2005
Do you believe in reincarnation? Well some how, I have ended up behind some old gits computer in morecambe! Only thing is, it gets pretty lonely in here.

  • Re: Help!!! I am stuck in cyber hell! by babushka (Member 10167587) on 28-Oct-2005
And I can tell ya, some of the sights I see are enough ta make ya bread go stale!

  • Re: Help!!! I am stuck in cyber hell! by Viper (Member 10167833) on 28-Oct-2005
what kind of sights are we talking here?

  • Re: Help!!! I am stuck in cyber hell! by honeypot (Member 10167822) on 29-Oct-2005
Is reincarnation not the passing of ones soul from one living body to another.

How then do you feel it is possible to be stuck behind a computer screen.

  • Re: Help!!! I am stuck in cyber hell! by babushka (Member 10167587) on 29-Oct-2005
Listen, Stick-fingers, get ya head out of that pot and open ya mind! I once had a friend who came back as a slug, honesty! I say once, cause you would think kids nowadays, could draw circles with better things than salt!!

  • Re: Help!!! I am stuck in cyber hell! by babushka (Member 10167587) on 29-Oct-2005
Well hello there Viper! Do I know you? I have met many a snake on my travels!

  • Re: Help!!! I am stuck in cyber hell! by Viper (Member 10167833) on 29-Oct-2005
Not unless you have been on some dark miserable travels and have woken up to find a roach sucking on your tear duct for moisture.

  • Re: Help!!! I am stuck in cyber hell! by Benji (Member 10170639) on 10-Jan-2006
Well done! You have at last realised that you are really in the place of the living dead. There is no escape from here: suggest you make the best of it. It's not too bad, actually - I have been here for almost seven hundred years.

  • Re: Help!!! I am stuck in cyber hell! by Benji (Member 10170639) on 30-Jan-2006
I have now been in here for eight hundred years and have given up hope of ever getting out. Have you ever tried to live in the back of a computer screen: it's not too bad and you do get accustomed to it!! Regards

  • Re: Help!!! I am stuck in cyber hell! by babushka (Member 10167587) on 30-Jan-2006
Blimey Benji! I didn't know computers had been around for that long! I must be totally away with the times.

  • Re: Help!!! I am stuck in cyber hell! by Benji (Member 10170639) on 7-Feb-2006
Yep, Babushka, but not as we know them today. The very first recorded computer was discovered amongst the wreckage of an ancient vessel off the Greek coast - it is estimated to be 2nd. or 3rd. century A.D. It looked rather like a collection of cog wheels on a frame: rather like the inside of a mechanical clock today and - in a previous incarnation - I used to live just behind one of the cogs. Gues... more >>

  • Re: Help!!! I am stuck in cyber hell! by The Emperor of Lancashire (Member 10198240) on 25-Nov-2006
Hey, Diane, are you in my computer too? If so, that explains why my sandwiches, coffee and cigarettes always seem to vanish from my desk! But you are very welcome - you must get hungry and lonely in there!
